I think lack of availability is in part due to the fact that stores are getting flooded with the latest toys coming out but retailers can’t get rid of what’s currently on the shelves, not to mention lack of staff dedicated to the toys section (this is what a few Target employees have mentioned to me). Then there’s Walmart which is a different breed and I personally think the workers there don’t give a shit about stocking considering I’ll unbox stuff sitting out for days at a time myself 😂

I’ve definitely got more picky about what I’m going to buy. I was already starting to feel like I was running out of space to display everything and I don’t want to box up stuff. I’ve always only collected certain things anyways but still feels overwhelming with how much comes out at once for sure. The price increases hasn’t swayed me too bad, it just kind of helps keep me in check from buying stuff I don’t want or need. Legends will definitely be one that’s going to go on the back burner. Distribution sucks enough am I area I don’t want to take a gamble buying something I can’t see in box Not being able to return it let alone try to pick one I want.

Not being able to find things that should be readily available like the Amazing Fantasy Spider-Man or the availability issues with NECA animated Turtles really took the wind out of my sails. Toy collecting will never be dead. I just think toy companies need to scale back though and not release so much at once. It's been overwhelming for the last few years and overwhelmed collectors have basically been forced to narrow down their collections because it's way too expensive and time consuming to keep up. I know that I've stopped collecting NECA and have sold off nearly half my Funko collection in the last year or two.

I think the price increase has just made me more selective with toy buying. Which in some ways is a good thing because while it sucks that yea stuff is more expensive the toy room only has limited space anyway.
So like for instance with geekathon I only want the universal monsters turtles. It’s obtainable goal that won’t make me go into debt. And I have an awesome set that ties together my interest in turtles in horror.
Honestly sets that have so many characters like the toon style turtles from NECA turns me off. Cause while it’s cool they have all the characters. That would take up a majority of the toy room to display and it makes the collection feel less diverse.
But that’s just me at least everyone is different with how they collect.

people are tired of paying absorbent prices for things like this because they're worried about essentials like gas and food for their families. the problem is not that the collectors want to quit, it's that the companies continually raise their prices, knowing that what they're peddling isn't essential to survival.

Target has a horrible stocking issue and it started last winter when they fell way behind on the MOTU Origins stuff. They remain two waves behind and none of the Batman and Star Wars stuff is moving like it use to because the demand is just not there anymore. Personally I think the Marvel license is exhausted too. There's only so many Spider-men, Batmen, and Obi-Wans you can put in your collection until the feeling of suffocation hits you. Add in the high prices and its EASY to walk away. Regarding the other available items, only a few exceptions (NECA, McFarland, WWE) stay on a healthy rotation, while much of everything else is older merchandise that collectors have already gone elsewhere to get (BBTS, etc). Their issues will not change until they can get current with their inventory. Great Killer Klown shirt btw. (:

I travel alot for work assignments (just got back from WA), so I hunt all along the way (a few thousand miles) and hit as many walmarts on my path. A few weeks ago, I got home and closely reviewed all the things I got (new star wars micro ships, star wars hotwheels die cast ships, dc super powers, megos, pop comic covers, etc) and decided that i really dont need them or really like them, so I returned 95% of the stuff I got! I use to do those nickelodeon TMNT (they were fun to hunt about 2 years ago) but stopped at the turtles 4 pack (I also stopped MOTU completely for about a year now)....with the TMNT they just keep making new things and characters that I dont know, and I didnt want to just keep on getting that line just to get and sell it one day...anyways, I just kept a couple of the weta minis (facehugger, slimed venkman) and (2) carded toxic avenger and a mole man out of the whole bunch, you can say I got all caught up in the hunt and when I got back to "normal" I realized that some of those things are just not worth it to me.....I felt like the quality isnt there for the price and I just didnt want to get stuck getting new things just because, as like most of us toy collectors out there, I own way too much things, and most of it gets boxed up anyways for that dream mancave I want to build one day....anyways, these days I gotta really love something to get it (no more space)...I saw every single new star wars figs from all 3 lines and passed on them all, where a year ago I wouldve gotten them all....besides I have a funner time hitting thrift stores and flea markets...I feel my money stretches more and the variety of "vintage" keeps things interesting for me.

I'm the same with everyone here. If they are marking up the price, they should add extra incentives. ~$30 for a figure just ain't right especially when some figures come out with poor quality control. For $20 I don't blame the companies for small mistakes or errors on figures because its 20 bucks. But when they increase the price with same quality and nothing new added. It's a no go for me. Especially when the figure looks worse than some other $20 figure.

Hasbro and mattel are matching boutique toy makers prices like super 7, neca. Unfortunately the collector community is paying these ridiculous price increases. Personally speaking Hasbro toys have in the past been attractive for the low price points, with that came low paint passes, small figurines like the legends line. But now the prices have creeped up so high that I need to consider what is the true value of 50$-60$ (here in Canada). Neca and super 7 deliver on bang for your buck, quality sculpts, paints and packagings that are not just a closed box.
I don’t think the value is there with legends, transformers or motu.
The price increases are unrealistic and will change dramatically they way I collect.
At these new prices I’m looking towards companies like super 7, neca and mafex are catching my eye. But definitely prices should be a big cause for concern.

Toys are for children , the main reason as to why they're so expensive to begin with " even before inflation " is because grown men purchase them with no intent to even open the package 90% of the time . If they were still considered Toys that children play with rather than a "collectors item" the prices would be half of what they are for the same exact product .

Hasbros price increases seem to be the most volatile right now and a lot of it is repaints of stuff that was a lot cheaper before. Neca can also seem greedy in the way it drops things in these events. People want to feel involved with the toy community but it dangerously could get them sweeped up in overspending to participate. Encouraged to strike fast while it's scarcely available.

The price increase here in the UK is ridiculous. Seeing the NECA figures priced for you at $32.99 which is £29.78 in UK money makes me cry, as NECA figures normally go now for £41.99 upto £49.99 which is $55.42 at the top end, that is just for the normal GhostFace ultimate figure. Another example is Halloween II 2 pack with Loomis, currently sits at £74.99 which is $84.19 in US dollars. Yes you can get some figures for the £31.99 but those are the ones which have been round for quite some time.

Good luck to Australian Collectors where the product simply isn’t available. It forces you to go online because of the lack of product we get in this country, and it doesn’t help when certain sellers triple or quadruple the price for a product, and the manufacturer even says they are “sold out”.
I stopped collecting a little while ago. The thrill of the toy hunt is completely gone! Going into a bricks and mortar store to support local business and they don’t have the product or have no knowledge of what you are even talking about.
EG - When The Force Awakens came out, I went into our local Target Story and asked about Force Friday. They had no clue what I was on about. While we got the product, it was 4 weeks later than the original “Force Friday”.
I enjoy Watching your content and just wish our Target and K-Mart (Walmart equivalent) were like yours. But they aren’t. Toys, games, DVDs etc are getting scaled back in this country for home decorating. Hence no product!
Forget the Target Exclusive. Doesn’t happen. Forget the Walmart Exclusive… that’s EBay or Amazon for both. Then there is Game Stop Exclusives which we don’t even have in Australia! Let alone many Toys R Us if any!
JB-Hi Fi and EB Games are moving into this space in Australia now, but the product just isn’t quite there yet. Hasbro, Super 8, Hot Toys etc just don’t market to Australia like they should….. except for Capital Cities. It’s not like you guys in America, rocking up to your local Target and getting what you want. That’s the problem! It’s much much harder in Australia to get what you want as a collector. So….. we give up.

back in the 90's toy hunting use to be my passion , I would hit 15 stores in a day , Toy R Us , KB Toys , Target , Walmart, Tower Records , the random comic shops that were along the way .. I made a whole day out of it , it was fun .. now, how many of the those places are left ... they have been replaced by online sellers , you hit a few buttons on your computer and the thing shows up at your doorstep in a few days , that is not the way to collect... it sickens me these days to even try and go toy hunting , you are really limited to only Target Walmart and GameStop , and you can never find anything anymore , its a giant waste of time.. the price increase in toys these days is simply insulting .. you use to be able to buy a 7 inch movie maniac for $7.99 at retail when they first came out, and there was usually 6 figures in the. line.. .. now you you pay $100 for 4 figures if you can find them.. what a mess toy collecting has become..

I think the days of brick and mortar toy hunting are pretty much dead. Lack of availability due to poor logistical work, new product not hitting store shelves because of store policies, and of course scalpers have seen to that.
It's easier to just buy on line, especially when online retailers dedicated to toys exist. Maybe if Toys R Us does make a come back we'll see a return to the classic toy hunt, but until then it's done imo.

I feel price increases are crazy for marvel legends for you to get. Marvel legend and black series are getting crappy/lazy on figures. NECA TMNT cartoon line is worth it. Different sculpts on everything tons of accessories. I think people are being smart with their money and where their collection goes as I do know a few people that buy things just cuz they're cool and I know for a fact they have stopped. If you have a passion for a line, you're going to stick with it but those little side pieces is what you have to drop

The problem for me is with the resellers. There is more product on Ebay/Mercari than there is in the stores. Once Toys R Us closed, I knew things would get interesting with Walmart and Target. They capitalized on collectors and try to make stupid events like Haulathon and Geek Out feeding into the idea of "exclusive" and "rare". Its impossible to hunt down toys when some stores never get them and if they do there are only 2 or 3. I mean I've seen guys on Ebay sell 6 sets of TMNT 4packs and I've never seen one even after trying 6 or 7 times. The odds have become so small I have given up looking for some items and just paid extra online to buy them from a reseller. Because of that I have downsized and stopped collecting as much, its just not fun anymore.

It's def a combination of an absolute glut of product from several companies, coupled with price increases for figs and day to day groceries. I dunno if figures today are inspiring kids to play and get involved too, ya know? they're priced out of the 6" stuff for the most part, and the smaller sets are straight up boring or trash. If kids are spending their parents money elsewhere, then that kills the market for everyone

Can finally pick and choose with them sitting. Otherwise it was like grab it you won’t see it. And I agree they have closed the gap to premium figures. And that’s not a good thing for them. Because the other companies have the quality and years of word of mouth. You just need to spend 20$ more for way better product.

Alot of people are quitting.especially newer ones, and this is slowing down the people who scalp online,at flea markets and open whole stores.there was interview with jazzware (maybe 2020 or so)where he was saying its hard to determine how much product to make because they cant tell how much is consumer and how much is people buying them all to resell.it makes sense because when it slows fown and so does the scalping youndont want the retailers flooded with a wave when you got 4 more coming out.I believe what we are seeing is people quitting wheather its loss of intrest, way to hard, scalpers, prices going up and this is slowing down the scalpers.I live outside of a major city and the tmnt movie 2 packs, animated series 4 pack and more have beens sitting for a few months.scalpers marking up litterally 5 to 10 dollars.there is collection on local market place.of course there are exceptions.

After Endgame my interest died down. I purchased everyone that I wanted from the movies and the other odd comic version. I don't have interest in the new movies coming out and most of the other lines don't interest me anymore. Also in Canada we pay an additional 13 % tax on our figures. Some are priced at $45 plus tax with deluxe figures reaching close to $60. I can't justify spending close to $100 on two figures. Hasbro is nuts.

in truth i started being picky with what i buy ever since i bought some figures that i didn't liked and regretted doing so, still do so mostly because of price increase and fortunately i dedicated myself to buy one figure per month than one figure per 2 or 1 week, if i can't find the figure i want in said month it is alright as i can wait for the other.
but, when Hasbro began changing the boxes to windowless boxes, hearing the stories of figure swapping or just plain empty box is not worth a gamble for me to buy such figures, even if it was labeled with a character i've always wanted but didn't got the figure before i refuse to gamble like 25+ dollars for something i may not even get, i'd even rather go to any flea marker that has the figure with all the accessories and a decent price (which most of the time is super unlikely in my case).
So far the only figures i'd hope to get that have windowed boxes would be G.I. Joe classified Storm shadow, Marvel legends King Valkyrie and Moon Knight, but after those figures i'm honestly through with Hasbro's plan of changing boxes, whether they're being honest on the eco-friendly idea or not, i just won't bother going with that idea.

Hi Raphael - new to your channel and wanted to say I really loved your discussion on this topic.
Before I go further have to say to you that I love your name, and also I have to give you a shout out for the Killer Clowns from Outer Space shirt you were rockin'. As a B Movie fan it's definitely up there as one of my favs along with The Last Starfighter.
I don't understand either how prices keep going up even with earth friendly packaging which should bring prices down since everyone is doing that now. And as you mentioned the toy releases are all in bulk instead of phased which is a perpetual hit to your wallet. Not sure if this double whammy of price increases and motherload drops is due to inflation, or stuff just sitting in warehouses due to COVID, or just an attempt to keep scalpers in check. But it is going to kill you collecting for sure especially for adult collectors who have a family and mortgage and other expenses to juggle with during the current inflation and high home energy prices. Our power bills in TX keep going up so I know I have to watch my spending a lot these days for my collection hobby.
Anyway thanks again and I added a sub to your channel to keep up with your videos.
