  • Today I'm putting the Niteize Camjam XT Aluminum to the test. I want to see if this metal rope tensioner CamJam will hold me and my weight in my hammock. The CamJam is rated at 280 lbs. and I'm around 205 lbs. I've been using the ENO Atlas Straps to hang my hammock but I wanted to see if I could cut down on weight and bulk in my backpack. The Niteize Camjam XT cord tighteners are some of my favorite camping gear because I don't have to tie so many knots.
I really like the cam jam and the many multi-use purposes. It would be great for camping and setting up tarps. If you don't want to fool with knots, these would be great in your tarp setup.
I keep several of CamJam's in my bug out bag just in case I'm caught in a survival type situation. They are excellent gear ties. You can quickly secure a lot of gear and get everything tied down super fast by using simple 550 paracord.
The Niteize CamJam XT is very affordable, less than $10 each. Here is a link to Amazon where you can read more reviews. amzn.to/29oAvEf

A lot of state/national parks require tree straps so that the bark isnt damaged. I've seen different setups with partial strap and cord maybe that's the best of both worlds

I read somewhere straps don't hurt the trees where as cords and ropes dig into the bark
.. it might mean something to you if you're a tree lover

I have to agree Cam Jams work great. But I would recommend that you stick with tree straps. Para cord and ropes damage the tree and are one of the main reasons that many state parks and forests have banned the use of hammocks. Please use tree straps! That will keep us all hanging. Thanks !

The damage to trees ( and tree death) caused by hammocks suspended by cord is causing an increasing number national parks to ban hammocking. Use tree straps or other wide webbing with whoopie slings or cinch buckles so that we can all keep hammock camping for years to come.

There's a Large size of CamJams that hold 500 lbs (1,500 lbs breaking strength, I think?). They weigh 6.4 oz for a pair, whereas a typical buckle system like WarBonnet's willl weigh in at 1.3 oz. You need straps with buckles though, which isn't some people's favorite.

Two things: 1. Why would I want it back if you are sweating your essence all over it? 2. You actually have a Boom box? LOL great intro and video

Doesn't everybody have a boom box? I know my muskiness is why you would want it back but you can't have it back.

Kevlar/Spectra cord would have a better chance against tree bark than Dyneema but straps are best for the tree

Hey Steve! I was wondering about those clips. They are rated at 280 lbs. wouldn't that be each clip can hold 280 lbs. so in theory two would be able to hold 560?

Your theory would be correct in my opinion due to my superior brain. If you haven't heard me mention my superior brain, just keep watching and you will. LOL

I've taught my trees to be tough since they were saplings. I promise they can take it.
