Each 5-inch 54-cal Mk.42 mount has the same rate of fire as a 5-inch 38-cal twin mount, meaning an Austin, with six single mounts has the same rate of fire as a Juneau with six twin mounts. But the 5-inch 54-cal gun has much more hitting power against surface targets, due to its heavier projectile and high muzzle velocity.

Re: Early Hydroacoustic Search The reason the Hydro in the game cannot detect a sub at max depth is because of a phenomenon called a Thermocline Layer. As an ex Royal Navy Submariner, we used Thermo Layers to great effect in inter nation war games. The principle is this. Salinity layers form in oceans that increase ( or decrease ) the density of the water. Hydro (or Sonar as it was later renamed - SOund Navigation And Ranging ), bounces off this thermo layer and even if it penetrates to the sub beneath it, may still not have enough power to return the ping to the sending warship, losing power each time it hits the thermo. Sometimes a ping may penetrate the layer, hit the sub but on return bounces off the underside of the themo layer and buggers off in another direction, losing power as it goes. Submarine crews were very aware of thermo layers around them and the depth of these layers so that they could 'duck' under them for protection against detection. However, I left the Navy in 1988 and it's entirely possible that someone has found a way to defeat the themo layer, but as far as WoWarships is concerned, the inability to detect a sub at max depth assumes that it is beneath a thermo layer and is quite relevant to real life ( at least between 1940 and 1988 ). A modern way for ships to detect subs below the layer is by use of towed array sonars, where the ship slows right down to just maintain steerage way, and suspends a sonar bouy on a control cable to dip below the thermo and ping away to it's heart's content, but this isn't relevant to the time periods in WoWarships. Then again, in a modern setting, we have Side Scanning Active / Passive Sonars, but that's a very modern thing. Last, most Naval Helicopters have a 'dipping sonar' which they use on the same principal as the towed array sonars, with the exception that the helicopter has to hover to 'dip'. As a submariner, our worse nightmare was getting an all clear from sonar before coming to periscope depth, only to find a bloody helicopter dipping using passive sonar in the distance. While he's hovering, our passive sonar can detect him, but he needs to be close. Again, not relevant to the time period of WoWarships, but something to use as a fun fact.
Nice game, eventhough I was biting my keyboard inbetween and towards to the end for him not shooting when he easily couldve scored another 30k-50k without BBs shooting him back. Also I think Charles Martel captains would disagree with the "heavy cruiser" title xD
Also worth mentioning that Austin has more than twice torpedo range of both Atlanta and San Diego (who has the SAP/AP combo Jingles, not Austin). Still not able to stealth torp (i think), but at least enough to be considered anything else than panic shotgun.
Well, that's eerie....; The one time you make sure to hope we're all having a great one instead of only a good one... 17:38 "Is it Salmon, some kind of submarine?" I guess you could describe fish salmon as submarines - they spend most of their time submerged but occasionally surface dramatically.

@@BasJon that is ok, then Im wrong in that case, but the SD does not face any supercarrier in battles, so for its tier it has definitely one of the better AA.
