I'm glad you addressed the topic of your friendship with Sydney and Tommy and your feelings of the changes they made at your former home. I too, agree wholeheartedly, Sydney and Tommy have become faithful stewards of the home and made updates to the infrastructure and integrity of the historical home and older trees. They have exhibited nothing but love and respect for the home and that would make any former homeowner happy and proud of the home they left in the care of others. Sydney and Tommy have put their own stamp on the home with some bold and creative styles. I take my hat off to them for creating an environment that speaks to them - because that's all that matters ❤ Linda, it is hard to go back to a home where we raised our children - but the memories are in your heart, and one day, you will be able to go back. The home has been very lucky to have you and Hubs and now Sydney and Tommy care for it. ❤❤❤❤
Sydney and Tommy have done an amazing job with the house as well as the lawn and landscape. They have invested so much in trying to keep the trees healthy. Great job!!!
I can totally understand not being ready to go back and see your previous garden. It was very hard for me when we moved 20 yrs ago. You've made an incredible garden at the Cottage and like you said, it better suits your lifestyle now. You are an inspiration in so many ways!
We built a house after our kids left, and I left my gardens behind-beautiful live oaks, stone pathways, established beds-but, we got so bogged down in the building and then creating a beautiful outdoor space, I did not have time to miss any of it. My style of heavy garden maintenance is not everyone’s so I do not judge the buyers of our old house at all. I miss elements of my old garden, but the benefits of my new gardens are so much greater, and each day is a new opportunity to try something new! Your new home and gardens are spectacular, and I have enjoyed this new journey.
I would like to say that I am so happy Stewart, that you decided to converse in the videos! I remember when you didn’t want to. I especially enjoy your laugh! Maybe one day we will even SEE more of you❣️Linda your yards are beautiful!
I agree with you Linda , I would not want to go back and see all the changes that you had put your love and sweat in to the garden. Always go forward, not back!
You are a class act, thanks for addressing the issue about the old house, I am amazed at how two different looks can both be beautiful. Gives us gardeners hope and encouragement
There were so many things I admired about your past home. One being, that front brick wall along front sidewalk, for one,and the back box/ knot garden, for just a few.😍
Thank you for addressing the changes the owners of the Fairy Tale House have made. I’ll never understand the need for mean comments. I’ve enjoyed watching how you’ve taken a blank slate and created such beauty at The Cottage!
The garden at your previous home was elegant and I loved the fence and gate at your driveway’s edge and the view as you entered into the backyard. Your current garden is fun and has an urban sophistication. I like the number of seating options for gatherings or alone time. Your special touch has been carried forward to your new home. I’m with you on not needing to visit your previous home. Best to hold your memories dear and remember it as it was.
Linda , I think the social patio is a real plus for your front yard. Makes it seem so inviting and very friendly for you and your neighbors. Love watching your videos!!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit with us on Thursday night when we saw you in the park. I asked my mom what her favorite part of our trip was and she said meeting you and looking at your beautiful garden. Thanks again!❤
The lovely white hydrangeas and growth of the redbuds I think are adding some real LV romance and soul to the front garden. The hobbity curve of the cottage roof is so great, and I think all your curved and rounded shapes in trees, boxwood, and flowers really enhance it. Appreciate all you guys, but admit I delight in your sculptural talent, Linda, wherever you are. Love the shapes!
Linda,I love your new home and gardens. We also downsized our home you will laugh we moved next door to our old house.😂 It was strange at first four years later. We were so busy remodeling and making new outdoor living spaces like you.We are in the sun .That was so needed shade!!!The people that bought our house have changed just about the whole yard. They took down 3 rock walls that I loved and pretty much did away with all my flowers. They did let me get some of them .Her husband said flowers are not worth the trouble of such short bloom time.!!!😢Made me sad all well I planted more here 😊.Yea change is hard but as we are getting older I am glad we made the right decision. This is still so much easier for us.Thank the lord. ❤I do enjoy your channel so much.Donna
I also love your new house with your new gardens. You have done a spectacular job and I love the cottage garden deal and I am a beyond crazy about the brick rug you put in in the backyard. The other house was beautiful but more formal this is right up my alley.
In 2018 I moved from a home and garden I had lived in for 30 years, totally creating the garden .74 acre . I really understand your thought process as I never want to visit the house . I so miss my garden and drive by every once in a while. It’s all still in my head and my heart.
I must say, the window box is finally looking like Linda Vater! It was a little chaotic in the beginning. But, that picture of the old one is melting my heart!!!!!!! Especially the one with the purple pansies!!!!!! Maybe that is what I am feeling.. I am not a symmetry person. Thats why the other house with its high pitch over the front door and the arched side porch and the meandering stone wall, was more my aesthetic. But you are right, the boxwood and the topiary still lend the Linda Vater look here.
I totally understand how you are enjoying a change at this season of your life. Your beautiful landscaping has already given me some ideas for our yard. We made a move after my husband retired 6 yrs ago and it’s been so much fun to make it as beautiful as I can with your and many others ideas incorporated along with my own!❤
Linda, You've had such an impact on so many gardeners, including myself. Your new home is so charming and your style is untouched! Your old home is a fairy tale for sure, but your new home will be a fairy tale when you are all done. I love what Sydney and Tommy have done to your old home to make it their own. As a gardener, it's easy to love and learn from everyone's different styles! The progression in your new home is amazing and it looks incredible in such a short amount of time! I agree with trees and darkness in the house...if we could have it both ways, it would be absolute perfection!
Why people need to get so involved in other people’s business? I thought about that many times but is not my place to ask to how is your relationship with the new owner of your former house, and of course all the following questions. ~ Those things and questions are so personal and even if we think about it we have to be sensitive not to ask. Well Linda that is my opinion and my take on this topic. I have to say that no matter what house you have you are so talented that you can transform anything into beauty, ..garden or interior. Follow you for so ,so many years, thinking about one day travel to Oklahoma from the west part of the country and go n visit your precious, peaceful, captivating gardens. Thank you for allowing us to see this miracle of land with just dirt at the very beginning to see the transformation and grow to an amazing happy garden in front of our eyes. Sorry about my spelling, English is my 2nd language! Hope you are having an enchanting time in the UK. Send us pictures and clips!!🇺🇸🇬🇧 🌸🙏
🌱 Dear Miss Linda, your new cottage is absolutely gorgeous! Your new garden creations are so fun & breathtaking from the street (it's a "honey stop the car" house!) ~It' your new play ground & it shows well on you! 😅 ~Inside is so light & bright & perfect size! ~You are in your happy place & the best is yet to come! ❤🌿💯🐞
I loved the fairytale house but boy the cottage is becoming such an amazing site, and truly inspiring ❤ thanks for being transparent and honest in your feelings, as always keeping it real with your viewers , Love LV
The old house was so magical and had that old world charm that I adore. Watching you in that magical garden was such an inspiration and you will make your new home just as inspiring.
So glad she's addressed the Sydney situation, they seemed so friendly before! There's obviously more to it than she's letting on, but that's their business. Did enjoy the banter and dynamics between those two though. Perhaps Sydney can visit The Cottage on the Hill, which Linda is so rightly proud of ? 🌿🌹💕
The garden looks wonderful! I love everything about it. All of the colors look great together. If I lived in your area I would be driving by constantly to see what's new in the garden.
I moved home about the same time as you Linda, leaving behind a much loved garden...taking on an older property and established garden . I've moved several times and I feel we have to be patient and grow into our new places, building a relationship with the character and quirks of a new place. Beautiful homes and gardens are made with enthusiasm, effort, care and time. So appreciate you sharing your process with me. Thanks 😊 ❤
I have no desire to revisit my old home and 40 year garden. Still raw even though my new garden is beautiful. Too many memories left behind. I doubt you will ever want to see it. Videos are not as painful. I enjoy both your and Sydneys gardens.
Personally my opinion on your current garden space aesthetics, in honesty your outweighs that of the previous home and garden .. Have a safe journey and hope you have a pleasant visit to Scotland UK .. ❤️🙏😊
I have left behind several gardens when making moves when my husband was working. They are 850 miles away in two other states. Visiting them is not happening. Sydney and Tommy are good stewards of the Fairytale House. They have made changes, but the changes look nice. The house and garden are well cared for. Your new garden commands your time and attention now. I got a new back garden without moving. Tornadoes embedded in a September,2019 ripped out all my big mature oak trees, pine trees, hydrangeas, and most of my old azaleas. It went from dappled shade to full HOT sun. I have missed those big trees every single day of the last nearly five years. Big mature trees can be replaced at GREAT expense, but I don't have the budget for that. I am living with what I have. I really wish I did not have deer and rabbits, which eat so many of my plants. Argh!
You sold me on the Sunshine Ligustrum. I bought 2 at the end of last season and MAN OH MAN they are rockin' the flower bed this year! I call them my Linda Ligustrums! Thank you for all you share with the world. Just stunning design sense.
Hi Linda,I think the fairytale house was beautiful with the garden you designed.Your new cottage on the hill is also so beautiful and I love the new garden front and back.Love your channel Thankyou so much for all your information on your plant knowledge.😊 Donna from Georgia
You know Linda, I am not sure you can compare the 2 houses. Totally different architecture, different size of areas, topography, shade and sun requirements, location, different time line in your life and our tastes change according to our surroundings. I love both of your houses because they were/are yours. More than a style to embrace I find I embrace who you are, what you stand for and how you interpret your wants and needs. Make any sense?
Have a Great trip Linda! The Front yard is so beautiful as is the flower box. Been watching your channel for awhile, loved your style at your old house and love the way you style things now. Thanks for sharing so much of your beautiful style, inside and out as well as what you wear. ❤❤❤
I was out in my backyard watering all my flowers my lawn and my body is covered with mosquitoes, I love your videos I've been watching your videos for a very very long time Rebecca. By the way your stairs are going to look so beautiful painted a lighter color the mirrors that you,had put up goodness it's going to look gorgeous I cannot wait for your Christmas videos❤❤❤
I love your yard in the Spring in the old house but overall I love your new yard in the front and back in the new house!! You have so much more color thru out all the seasons!! I can see how the shade trees stopped you from planting more flowers in the Fairy tale house. Have a wonderful trip to Scotland!!!
Your comment was very kind in reference to Sidney. Oh course her style will be different than yours. Different generation. Possibly people need to understand, you left the other house, no one forced you. As we age, change is good, why because stagnant.
Linda I love both yards but I’m drawn to shadier yards because I live in the deep South and know how hot it’s going to get. Thanks as always for sharing.
I totally understand why you can't go back...We raised our kids in our old house of 26 years, but love our new place. I can't go back, mainly because they knocked our home down, understandably. It was built with no insulation and was very small. I didn't garden there, but if I went back, I sure would know what to do now! Thanks so much for your videos. Have a great trip to Scotland.
Did you have cicadas?? Never really heard them in your videos. You have become my new “Martha” for ideas and fun things to try. Thank you for all you do
The window box with bubblegum pink and chartreuse is FABULOUS!!! Add some white to cool it off slightly...trailing white lobelia or bacopa, or white petunias or supercells. Claus Dalby is a master at chartreuse plus white plus 1 color!
Lovely what you have achieved, I think I almost love this planting more. I like colour, not red, however know now where to use it. Love from Australia, our gardens are so different.
Hi Linda What you should try to remember when you do visit Sydney and Tommy,is that they have not descrated your style of planting there to make it their own. If there was a total wipeout of your ideas, then i could understand your hesitation. When i see their updates, I'm amazed how similar it still looks. They have planting failures like any gardner, and new additions too, which helps them find an equilibrium. The pets enjoy it as well, with respect❤
I haven’t ever had the impression that Linda would think anything was desecrated. It seems she is just trying to emotionally distance herself and her memories before she can take it in with clear eyes.
@@staciejackson7497 perhaps descration is a harsh word. Maybe I should have said that to my mind, Sydney and Tommy have an empathetic style of garden to Linda Vater. They have not,for example turned the whole front garden into a parking lot,or the back garden into a baseball field. That would be an emotional heartache for anyone to take. Linda Vater is a strong soul. The changes are minimal.
Love looking back at the previous House which I really loved now I am liking the Cottage house too. You have done a fantastic job on design and everything you have added. Its gorgeous. When do you leave for Scotland will you share your trip with us? Will Stewart be taking updates while you are gone?
🩷🐰 oh my goodness! I just noticed they rabbit in overalls in the Pom Pom topiary 😂🌸 love it!❣️ you have that in you current garden I hope you still have the bun bun.. You’ll know when it is time.. you have many beautiful “roots” , as you say it, at the other house, young couple, raising 2 boys as well as creating your lively hood. The nay sayers, zip it 🤐 🤫 everyone’s journey special to them!! This is a prime example of giving Grace and gardening. There’s so much to learn every year and every circumstance in every property. Love you Linda and team!!
🌿💗 I guess it's human nature to think about the past and the future, but the here and now! Wow! I'm astonished by what you have created in a year and a half. It's not even fair to try and compare what came to be over 20 plus years. You just have that Midas touch and je ne sais quoi! 💗🌿 (I found you in 2019 and have never left nor second guessed your decisions.)
Wow, what a beautiful garden! And what a beautiful you! I enjoyed the video so much. I'm working on my front yard and I'm happy I found your channel! subscribed
Your new home looks to me like a mini version of the FTC. I notice the A frame on the left like your gab!e behind the large tree at FTC and the bathroom window reminds me of the arch on the old side porch. I absolutely love them both.
Trees need so much upkeep. We had trees in front of our home BUT after hurricane Maria hit us in Puerto Rico in 2017. We had to cut them down… so scared of them falling on the homes of my neighbors. Plus we are just too old to keep the roof cleared of leaves. Our roof is flat and was just like a basket for the leaves. Love your garden. ❤️🌹
We applied Milky Spores twice for ( Japanese Beetles)/ at the correct time,to no avail, did it help or make a difference, There are pheromone traps to hang, but,we always thought,it would draw from other areas to our yard. After speaking to someone, that has worked in greenhouse/ landscaping,to hang the trap, far away from the Roses, and others they prefer,in a back distant location of your property. So ,I think we are in for a bad year,we might have to try,and some Neem oil.
I want you to think about a big tree where you started out on the side of your house today. Go to the front of your house and look at it and see if you want a larger tree on that right side. Now I cannot see how tall the trees you have are going to be but it looks like to me that one on the right side would balance the over all look with your neighbors. Just my suggestion. Your yard is beautiful and I now see your left front yard is for shade when the red bud is grown and your right is for sun. We'll planed out friend!!😊 Texas 9
Have fun in Scotland, I have a feeling you are going to love it! I'm originally from the NE of England, not far from the Scottish border. It's gorgeous there ❤🇬🇧
My husband and I recently popped back to the house we had when we had our daughter as a youngster and the current owners had made it look like it was abandoned and not lived in….it totally broke my heart. Fencing was broken, grass was out of control…it was awful! It looked sooo beautiful when we had it. It must give you and your husband some comfort to know that, although Sydney has changed things a bit, she and her husband love the house and are ploughing time, money and effort into keeping it beautiful…..unlike the new owners of our old house! 🥹🇬🇧🧡💚. Have a super time over this side of the pond in Scotland 😃.
Hi from Annie the garden does look very good and the steps in the front give it more character than pervious place, it also seems like this front garden is bigger than previous one in other house. Are you travelling to Scotland with hubby? are you touring the whole country or just a few spots andy relatives there? Are you showing clips from your trip there when you can? Living on the corner is the only downside there really, Not much privacy unless you plant more tall trees etc or put up fences etc. I am also on a corner did put up a higher fence but after realised it is not high enough but will have to do I would have planted my Juniper pines all around the front fences had I thought of it then rather than in the centre of my front garden. But we live and learn all the time in the garden.
Aren’t those bright pink petunias in your window box pink wave? Thought you mentioned that as you planted them. Bubblegum, here in our zone 6b gardens, are a much paler pink.

Agree!
Sydney and Tommy have done an amazing job with the house as well as the lawn and landscape. They have invested so much in trying to keep the trees healthy. Great job!!!
I came here to say the same thing. They have done a phenomenal job of taking care of the house. Thank you Linda for addressing this!
I love the edging Sydney and Tommy put in. I especially love how it helps their doggies with impaired vision navigate the yard.
I can totally understand not being ready to go back and see your previous garden. It was very hard for me when we moved 20 yrs ago. You've made an incredible garden at the Cottage and like you said, it better suits your lifestyle now. You are an inspiration in so many ways!

Dear Linda, not a day goes by in my garden that I don’t thank you out loud for something you’ve taught me! ❤
Safe travels ! We will miss you !! Have a wonderful time 🎉🎉🎉

I love your yard in the Spring in the old house but overall I love your new yard in the front and back in the new house!! You have so much more color thru out all the seasons!! I can see how the shade trees stopped you from planting more flowers in the Fairy tale house. Have a wonderful trip to Scotland!!!
I love it all!!!!!!!
About halfway through this video I found myself wondering about the pumpkins. Thanks for the update!
Have a great trip to Scotland.
its astounding !
Eugenia absolutely loves the sun. They are our "boxwood" in south florida. They can handle shade but they grow in full sun here❤❤❤
Did you have cicadas?? Never really heard them in your videos. You have become my new “Martha” for ideas and fun things to try. Thank you for all you do
The window box with bubblegum pink and chartreuse is FABULOUS!!! Add some white to cool it off slightly...trailing white lobelia or bacopa, or white petunias or supercells. Claus Dalby is a master at chartreuse plus white plus 1 color!
Lovely what you have achieved, I think I almost love this planting more. I like colour, not red,
however know now where to use it. Love from Australia, our gardens are so different.
Hi Linda
What you should try to remember when you do visit Sydney and Tommy,is that they have not descrated your style of planting there to make it their own.
I think I'm going to like this garden better once it's more mature. Like you said more variety with the variations in sun exposure
I just noticed they rabbit in overalls in the Pom Pom topiary 😂🌸
love it!❣️ you have that in you current garden I hope you still have the bun bun..
Have a safe and wonderful trip to Scotland ❤
Hi linda l fully understand where Ur at loved Ur old garden BUT love Ur new garden more an d ldo like what Sidney ghastly done Ur great
🌿💗 I guess it's human nature to think about the past and the future, but the here and now!
I'm working on my front yard and I'm happy I found your channel! subscribed
I think a matching awning would look great over the side door. Great videos!
I understand stressing over large trees. I agonized over taking one out because it had become a danger for several reasons. I cried!
You new house is beautiful
This was a fun movie regarding the old house/ new house. Hurry and pack with warm clothes/coats/layers. It’s always cool/cold in Scotland. 😂
Your new home looks to me like a mini version of the FTC. I notice the A frame on the left like your gab!e behind the large tree at FTC and the bathroom window reminds me of the arch on the old side porch. I absolutely love them both.
And how the black railing on the porch curves to the right like the brick wall curved at the FTC.
I really like your window box this year over last years.
Hi, Linda. Thank you for your video and Happy the week. ❤
It's gorgeous there ❤🇬🇧
Linda, if you can, check out a Flame Thrower Red Bud Tree. Amazing autumnel color year round. You'd love it. Have a great vacation!!
The Flame Throw would be great in the. Back yard. I want one. You can order on line . Texas 9
In the videos the petunias in the window box look darker like Jazzberry and not the light bubblegum. They are beautiful!
Loved the tour!
Wow, that Lugustrum (sp?) is just trying to steal the show! So pretty.
Beautiful ♥️
You should do a book about your new house
There really is no comparison to your former front yard.😊
Aren’t those bright pink petunias in your window box pink wave? Thought you mentioned that as you planted them. Bubblegum, here in our zone 6b gardens, are a much paler pink.
I don’t even get why viewers are asking and commenting on your relationship with Sidney. Linda is very busy and has moved on….
Did I miss when the trees and shrub trunks were painted? What is the reason and should we be doing it as well. Thank you 😊
I can not watch what has happened to your old garden. Good thing if I wanted to see it I can just go back and watch your old videos😊
