Did it make much of a difference? I have a 912uls and considering the edge big bore kit. In told it makes no difference in the air? I can't see how that would be but I don't know anyone thats gone it so I don't know. Any feed back be much appreciated
Yes you can tell a difference. With the 1484cc big bore you are adding 14hp, that means more pitch in your prop and higher cruise speed. It is hard to make a high drag airplane go faster but the more aerodynamic you are the more speed you will get. Everyone notices the the better take off and climb performance. For reference a KitFox type aircraft will pick up about 5-8mph.
I burn regular mogas until I get below 2500' . My home strip is above 5 K, Zipper Big Bore by Hal Stockman, 106 hp, 78" Prince prop, a Hackman Leaner, and a BalanceMaster on the prop hub. A 1" cross over tube mod enables very smooth idling down to 1300 RPM. Not trying to take anything away from Edge! Hal was close to me, that's why I went with him. I've heard excellent things about Edge Performance and their dealers.
What was the cost of that upgrade package? My concern is the older 912 case is at it's limit for hp production and can crack. This is been known to happen even with stock engines.
@@Flightstar I have the newer case, and after 2700 hrs, no cracks yet. Hal and I did some horse trading, but I think his retail price is 4 to 5K, ask him, it will vary depending on what else he does, like rebuild the gearbox, etc.
Nice video! Going to be fun to watch.
Very nice, thanks!

Can you install this kit on a certified 912 f3?
We do not have an STC for the big bore kits. The engine is the same but it would have to be installed on an Experimental aircraft.

A zipper low compression big bore gets 104 HP
