Nice review. I have Wawestate and Opsix. Wavestate for layering tones, sampling and crazy drums beats (using wave sequencing). Opsix for the incredible sounds it can produce beyond classic Fm. If I would keep only one, the Opsix wins. It has a soul...

do you find there is any overlap at all? I just got my wavestate which is my first hardware synth and am now looking at going for something stricly analogue and then fm based like the Opsix to sort of cover a lot of ground between 3 synths.

@@DelScully there is no overlap. I stopped using the wavestate in wave sequencing mode, because it needs the software for easier sound design. I use the Wavestate as a librarian of most famous legendary Korg synth. I would have use it more if it had the one button record sequencer that Opsix have. Opsix is a synth you can use without the manual. So friendly interface and groovy sounds. Emulating real instruments or inventing abstract ones. The Opsix sequencer makes me more creative. I done unexpected sequences. From synthwave, classic, blues, boogie, latin...to techno.

@@redsilver8847 thats good to hear! Sounds like the opsix is right up my alley.. I was worried it'd be very glassy fm stuff but some of the videos I've seen show it much more just like the wavestate which I've also been using more for subtractive synth textures with 4 layers rather than entire sound design type stuff. It's insanely deep and im slowly getting the hang of it but I've yet to set up the editor through my computer. I think I will mainly keep the wavestate for cinematic type stuff and weird pads but it sounds like the opsix is better for that true synthwave stuff then hey?

@@DelScully it shine in emulating real band instrument. Like organ, bass, electric guitar, leads. Before all it’s for real groove. Jazz, funk, blues, rock... and synthwave if you spend some time :)

@@redsilver8847 ah okay, that makes sense. that sounds nice actually, I need to get a good 88 key midi keyboard, sounds like it'd be fun to use rhodes models etc.

has the difference in polyphony 80 in opsix and 120 in wavestate make any difference in playing?

Great content as always! I've definitely been eyeing both of these. Slightly tangential, but what stands are you using? I have my Minilogue sitting on something closer to a music stand, but these seem pretty sturdy.

Check out the STAY column stands, with the curved arms, they will hold the smaller korgs and look super cool!

not exactly sure, but they look like monitor stands made by On-Stage and/or Gator Frameworks(very similar designs for each). both stands have a platform on top that's 9.5 x 9.5. there's definitely going to be some overhang from the Korgs. however, a simple demo video like this probably served as sufficient stands.

You should do an album of moody atmospheric synth music Tom. Such beautiful demos!

Great review. Thank you! I’ve got the Korg Modwave, but looking at one of these. I think i go for the Opsix!
By the way. What’s the name of the stands you use for your synthesisers in this clip? Thanks in advance for answer.

Why didn't korg make the layers have their own independent balanced outputs?

Really considering the Opsix to compliment my Wavestate and Deepmind
