Nice technical video CE, very good camera work as well. 2 thumbs up from here! Was very cool to see you helping JC Smith get his GradAll back to operational status. I enjoy watching expert technicians perform maintenance and repair, you never disappoint me in this regard. Thanks for taking the time to film, edit and publish your videos! Enjoy your weekend Doug@ the "ranch"
Great video thanks brother. That pump reminds me of a old inline fuel pump. Runs kinda the same way. I think it was a Catapiler pump to set the valves on it you had different places to pin the engine. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother. Just reminded me that. That pump really does look clean. We can only see what the camera will let us. Thanks for taking the time to point out how it works and the shape it's in. I appreciate it very much thank you
I have a 1967 4020 narrow front end powershift that is doing just what you said...leaking oil out of the pump shaft seal when shut off. Now I know I need a seal kit and not just the outter seal, Thanks!!
GREAT!!!! allowing me to watch you work made this your best video ever and you already had some good ones.. you took the mystery completely out of the pump and now I really want one of those Milwaukee battery powered impact tools. I was the 3rd thumbs up here. CE thanks for inviting us to watch with you at the work bench.
Thanks Soybean! I wanted to show stuff on my channel that was farm related but different! The Milwaukee tools are great especially on the farm when you can't get equipment near the shop! Thanks again!
Hey Mr Smith i just bought a 4055 from 1991 , somebody messed up the wiring in the tractor and ruined cowl and the plastic on the dash (grrrrrrrr) the tractor has run 8150 hours and the tank is leaking from the bottom . so my first problem JD has run out of plastic to the dash , is there any second hand seller you can refer too . my second problem is the tank (haven't removed it yet) i suppose some JB WELD can fix the problem . but would you cut out the rotted part and seal it with JB WELD or would you sandblast it and then seal it or what would you suggest ( i have the knowledge to weld on diesel tanks) . i live in DENMARK , EUROPE and i like your approach to the problems in front of you . So have a very nice day . Ivan Hansen
Lucky guy! that pump looks great! if it were mine.....it would have been worn out beyond repair. what are the differences in the radial and the gear style pumps as far as pressure and volume?
They build gear and piston pumps in different sizes from 5 to 50 gpm the piston pumps will run a little higher pressure! The rest of the tractor was worn out this was a surprise to find a new pump!
Not as simple as a gear pump, but more simple than a variable displacement pump. So, what was the reason you were tearing it down? Was there a hydraulic problem with the tractor? Great video! Thanks for the tear-down and explanation of those pumps!
A buddy of mine is restoring this tractor, it has about 18000 hrs. It was a family members tractor so he's going through everything. Turns out this pump was replaced recently. Yeah its simple but it also has a charge pump in the transmission. Thanks
@@cesmith4566who rebuilds theses and sells these pumps? I usually get pumps from Worthington ag but even they tell me they are junk. Last “rebuilt” pump from them lasted about 5 hours
My pump similar but not exactly the same. Just tried to tear it down the same way. Started off good but then a couple minor differences just caused me to destroy the pump. I guess its not a job for amateurs

Thanks Scott, they remind me of radial aircraft engines! The tractor had a ton of hours but this pump was recently replaced so it was good!
I wished you gave more details, like what series pump that is...1000, 2000, ?
Good video.

Can i change the oil seal without stripping the pump?
These pumps are an excellent design. I have had good luck over the years. Just never, ever run low on oil.
WOULD HAVE been nice if you would have commented more when taking apart....
Exactly, he missed alot of finer details in the disassembly...
I have very similar pump here and i tore it apart it showed no sign of wear and check valves looks good

What was the problem with the pump before teardown?
No kidding

Thanks I enjoy seeing the internals! That thing is clean inside! #WorldsOkayestFarmer
That pump was new I've seen a bunch worn out!
