I bought 2 of the Google Max speakers (they were on sale at the Verizon store) @ $300 each. Whilst that is a bit pricey, consider that these are operated on house current ( no batteries), they are self contained. Each has its own pre-amp, amplifier, power circuitry, Bluetooth circuits, and wifi! You can also network a whole houseful of them together. I have mine paired with my cell phone, and with 528gb memory and a whole lot of music and Audible books to listen stored, I'm never without tunes or an entertaining production like "Aliens, Bug Hunt"!
Dude this speaker is not meant to be a TV a speaker. They never even advertised it as being one. It's not a flaw when it can't do something it's not meant to do.
This kind of nitpicking over a *$400* speaker is kind of ridiculous. It's a speaker. They advertised it as a speaker. Every other speaker works this way. Imagine if Apple had not told everyone that the iPhone had no headphone jack. Would you be here to tell them that it's their fault for assuming and that Apple never claimed it did?
Whats next? Separate cameras for B/W photos and another for color ones? 😂 Speaker is a speaker, but these days corporations make people believe anything. Sheeple will follow. 🏢🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑
I use the max as the only speaker for my tv and the sound is much better than the tv speakers, which I just mute now, or the old bose surround system I used to have connected to it. Plus, I can give it voice commands. I'd like to buy another max for the tv but I don't know how to set up 2 of them
Darn that startup sound is just satisfying! All of the Google home, and the Pixel startup sounds, like, these sounds are just satisfying! Gives me goosebumps! I'm serious!
Is it true that you can't use Google Assistant while watching TV if you connect HomeMax speakers to Aux or Bluetooth? And I wonder if there is a delay when using stereo even if I connect with Aux. Is the firmware improved now? I'm worried about blue pitcher or Aux. Maybe I can't use Google Assistant when I connect to the TV.
kudos on trying to integrate with your existing sound system..BUT my guess is that it was not designed for that purpose as it does so much on its own and cannot tallk with the existing speaker
There is nothing wrong with the speaker being used for TV, however the 3.5mm jack is an analogue system and both your speaker systems have different latency and that's why they sound out of sync.
Do you need to bed in these speakers like you did back in the day? I read somewhere you can connect with Bluetooth, is this correct? Also, can you turn the bass down on the Google Home Max like you can for the Mini in the Google Home app?
I've searched and searched, haven't found anything. I've reached out to Google Home support, just waiting for a call back to work through the issue. If I can get it figured out, I'll make a follow-up video.
They don’t use the same clock so if you don’t have the option of pairing and set one as master clock you won’t be able to achieve synchronization. If you connect them using your Mac midi device you will be able to set one as master clock and should be in sync but that will be a wireless connection.
I think it's good to show people the fact that it doesn't just work the same as other speakers. I think most people would be fine with one of those speakers for their home stereo, given the level of sound production anyways, but for those that aren't I guess you pick up a second one? Thoughts Jordan?
I'm tempted to get one when the price drops. I recently purchased the Vizio sound bar and the wireless sub and satellite speakers. I'm afraid I would need 2 of the Google Max to replicate the surround sound of the Vizio sound bar. Thoughts? I have Minis all over the house with default playback locations and the kids love the "broadcast" keyword.
you know, just like there is with most / many STBs and home theater systems.... one that can be adjusted at the source, if you're not using a splitter and jury rigging a system together.
You can stream to your chromecast and have the audio come out your smart speaker. Why he has surround sound and a smart speaker hooked up together is ridiculous.
I purchased a Sonos Playbar for the main TV as well as family room music. Added the Sonos One for the den. Use it for music only as it also cannot connect to the TV. Have a Zvox for the TV. People that buy these need to understand they are not TV speakers. Those are a different animal, and a different shape.
Nice video overall. I could tell by the first few minutes that you were skeptical of the Google Home Max and that you weren’t “blindly all in”, which I like to see in a reviewers video. I’ve read several reports that it is not intended for a tv soundbar or tv support.
Do you think this speaker would be loud enough for factory work? I work on an assembly line. Looking at getting a bluetooth setup that would be loud enough with handsfree control.
It is a great speaker! I love it, I typically play music around 50% just because I don't need it to be so loud, but it sounds reallllly good. I have yet to review mine due to a backlog of videos. 😅
im not understanding why the google home max is having lag with the 3.5mm jack its not being chromecast or bluetoothed, so lag should not be present, no lag in a wired connection.... can you confirm the 3.5mm jack from the TV or display is outputting to the google max? i was thinking to do the same thing but with a pair of maxs for stereo output.
I would guess they convert the sound to digital, they process it and then they reconvert it to analogue... that would explain the delay. A digital chain for equalisation is a lot cheaper than hardware components.
I wish I had seen this video before I bought mine. I am getting latency on mine when I watch youtube videos. I wanted to hook it up to my computer but aux has lag too. I can imagine bluetooth having lag but even the cheap speakers don't have lag like that. Cool feature: If you listen to music from your computer - you can cast your music through chrome browser.
Can I use this speaker as sort of a surround system? Im using Google chrome to cast Netflix from my phone to my tv. I just got this speaker and would like it to play the tv audio through google home, is it possible?
how u swith to tv audi is it auto if it pick up signal in audio jack? im. planninf to fet 2 as tv speaker will get the benefit to have surroubd with many minis in the house
I wonder if, as you said, the Google Home Max is doing some audio processing when you use the analogue audio input which is introducing some lag, that's a bit odd. If you have an electronic keyboard, why don't you connect it to your Home Max via the audio input and then play something and see if you notice that lag, if it's there it would be very noticeable when doing something such as playing an instrument. If you're using it as the only speaker and your playing audio through it from, say, a cassette tape player or record player, I would think the lag won't be such an issue. Could it be that it's digitising the audio when you feed audio into the unit? If so, that may be causing the lag. If you plug an audio device into Google Home, can you then send the audio to other Google ChromeCast or or Google Home devices on your network? If so, that could be the cause of the lag.
That's a really good thought. I might go through some scenarios plugging whatever 3.5mm devices I can into the Home Max and just record what happens (keyboard, microphone, phone/tablet, etc.) A lot of the comments/tweets I've gotten keep telling me I'm not using it how it's "meant" to be used, but seriously, if Google put out a $400 speaker that's ONLY intended to be used wirelessly, or when plugged ALONE into a record player or stereo, I'll be completely confused.
You don't call something as FLAW when you are using a product for a use case it wasn't designed and/or marketed for. It is understandable if you say I tried something out of its intended purposes hoping it might surprise you but sadly it didn't. You don't call it FLAW. It's like taking a Toyota Corolla off-road. Sometimes it might work but most time it wouldn't and when it wouldn't, you wouldn't call it a flaw - corolla wasn't designed for off road driving. I think you are already smart enough to understand all that. So may be you just wanted a Click-Baity title - In that case, you succeeded! Great video editing though!
People keep telling me I'm not using it how it's "meant" to be used. It has a 3.5mm input jack. Is it really that far out of line to think that it should be able to accept an audio input and properly output the audio that way? I've seen dozens of comments on the Google Home support forum from people who intended to use the speaker in exactly this way, so I'm definitely not the only one.
Hey Jordan, it is perfectly fine for you to expect that you can plug in any audio input source into the 3.5 mm port and Max should play the audio just fine. There lies the difference between whether Max can play audio fine vs whether Max can play the audio in SYNC with Video? Even the Max product page gives an example of record player suggesting plug some audio source and listen to your records or library of MP3 songs. Nowhere it has been marketed as replacement for sound bar. Even if we want to stretch the discussion into sound bar territory, remember lot of TVs come with an option to adjust the lag between audio and video - it's an industry wide behavior with differing results depending on the combination of video/audio source and speakers, which might be doing certain different things with audio processing. Also, it would be fine if you are using Video source to just enjoy the music on Max and comment on the Audio quality. Again, it is perfectly fine for you to have certain expectations as do some other users but difference between them and you is that you have 87K subs so bar is high for you to make more effort into researching intended use and using the appropriate choice of words in communicating your disappointment with respect to perfectly justified expectation of an unintended use case vs labelling it as MASSIVE flaw with the product itself. Please keep up the good work. Appreciate your efforts that you put in making informative videos for people who look up to you for sound advice.
Jordan Keyes your standard speakers aren't processing the audio the same way the Google Home Max is. Remember how it uses machine learning to make it sound the best it can for the room you're in? It's needs time to process that information. It's quick but it's going to be out of sync with your standard stereo speakers because there isn't a processor trying to work out what's playing and how to MAXimize the audio for your listening pleasure.
did you make any attempt at adjusting the audio delay? I'm assuming not since you used a splitter - even though the adjustable delay setting is made for these scenarios.... unless, you know... you use a splitter and defeat it. I'm no fanboi, but your review was unfair for two reasons: 1. YOU had a configuration problem. 2. YOU made no attempt to explain or investigate, you simply said "google's fault". Last review of yours I'll ever watch.
Jordan Keyes it's not a flaw it's misuse. The headphone jack is meant so you can plug in things like a record player or a phone to play music from it as well. It's not meant to work with speakers you have sitting around. You are supposed to use other Google homes to get audio that plays at the same time.
Max has microphones it uses to adjust the sound for your room. But having sound coming from Max plus two other speakers? Well, how's that going to work out? Probably drive the AI insane. Not really a flaw, is it?
Awesome audio. Bass sounds almost like my Harman Kardon GO+PLAY Wireless, plus Google Assistant!! Which was the first song you played? The one with some asian music with lots of bass?
Just an FYI you can adjust the latency in the Google home app to fix problems like yours. It puts a slight delay on whichever device you have selected in the Google home app's device settings. It's usually used to fix sync errors from room to room using chromecast audios and home devices but should work just the same in your situation. Just keep in mind that if you adjust the max, you might want to adjust your mini as well!
Dope! I'd mount this in the hallway or something, too much power for such a small room that's already filled with sooo many speakers :P If I had a house I'd buy a whole bunch of mini's and just mount them on the walls, and get some circular light strips to highlight em. Just babblin, great vid as usual :)
When/if we move, I'm definitely planning on having either Home Minis or Echo Dots all over the house. With the sound quality of the Home Mini, I'm leaning more in that direction. Put them all in groups and cast music all over the house, it's a beautiful thing.
Ahh yes watched your vlog, maybe it's time to move, can't avoid the growth of the kids! heh.. That would be pretty sweet! Google could have motion based streaming so as you move throughout the house the music could switch from one speaker to the next. Small steps I guess, we'll get there :)
You still need a nice stereo connected via chromecast audio for bass. I have my old 5 speaker logitech z906 which adds much bass and midrange to my google groups. Unfortunately i have to manually switch inputs back and forth between tv and chromecast audio.
I have Apple HomePod & Google Home Max now, and the MASSIVE FLAW u said is not even 1/4 of what the HomePod lacking. It's literally only just for iTunes & selecred airplay from Apple devices. Means, it's NOT even half of features, services, etc... of Google Home Max with $349 price. Have a great day
Love all your videos. You really keep us informed on all the new products as they come out. Always honest with your opinion and that I like the best. Keep it up!
Was the other speaker connected via splitter? Why didn't you plug it directly into your TV headphone jack and try that? Why did you assume that this can function as a passive speaker if it was never advertised to be used as one? I would say that the review itself is flawed.
8:12 Thanks Bluetooth 4.2 garbage. My speaker is also way out of sync and it's highly annoying. I bet if it used 5.0 it would be spot on, because my other speaker that use 5.0 has zero latency.
It's not designed to be connected to a tv. It's the way flat screen TV audio is designed especially if it is wall mounted. U need surround sound speakers or a sound bar for that. It's not just the home max that u will hear a delay, but any single speaker other than a sound bar
The 3 other speakers I've used (and am currently using) with my TV have no issues whatsoever. 2 are bluetooth speakers with an RCA input (using a 3.5mm to RCA cable), the other is a wifi/bluetooth speaker with 3.5mm input. No latency there.
Google is working feverishly to correct this Obvious short-coming...and I say that as someone who has gone "Full Pixel" -- P-2 XL Phone; PixelBook i7/512; Google Buds, VR; Home Max (2); Home; and Home Mini(2). That I cannot pipe digital audio from my 4K TV to my Paired (stereo) Google Home Maxs is not very forward looking for Google...but, again, they are working on it.
Have had mine for a week , I'm not impressed for the price . Maybe at $200-250 I would be on board to keep it . Just sounds like a louder more bass standard Google home I'm sending it back on Monday
Nadeem Shaikh I don't have a sonos unit to compare with , so I couldn't give you an honest answer , think there is a comparison between the sonos and the home max on UA-cam I saw
Nice review, but not at all impressed by the speaker. Just as a personal preference, I never would buy such a smart speaker :-) Did you have a look at Riva Audio yet (kind of new on the market)?
Hm, never heard of Riva Audio. Looks like they've got a lot of features in their Multi-room setup, not sure on the pricing for something I haven't heard though.
Omg these comments Do all your parents work at Google? Is Google assistant the closest thing you have to a girlfriend? I see people claiming its not supposed to do that People claiming the delay is in settings People claiming its an inherent result of non-adc And doing like he insulted a family member Meanwhile Google fixed it with an update Pretty sure its fair to call that a flaw
The audio delay of the input jack has been fixed in a new firmware (118652) 3 months ago (reduce from 550ms to 39ms).
That's exactly the info I've been hoping to find on some revisit video of this but none did one. Glad I looked here.
0_o nerd
I do not know how to reproduce what I see on the TV in the Google home max
I get delay on mine.. bought 2 to on back of this comment...
Mine has a huge delay
Go into home settings for the speaker and change the group delay correction until it matches the other speakers
I bought 2 of the Google Max speakers (they were on sale at the Verizon store) @ $300 each. Whilst that is a bit pricey, consider that these are operated on house current ( no batteries), they are self contained. There are controls in the Google software for delay... Also depending on how you've got your TV set up, there can be audio delays there.

Yea, Google came out and said it's not meant to be a TV speaker. It was designed for music specifically.

Once it can playback the audio from chromecast video...I'll buy 2.
Can they do it now?, im in the exact same situation as you
@@naufalsam yeah , just google " connect google home with Chromecast" and you should find the answer
Right. This feature is not available yet.

Can this wirelessly sync with a Chromecast? Or will it have to be plugged into the TV?
Outstanding Speaker, I got it on sale 150, love it
kudos on trying to integrate with your existing sound system..BUT my guess is that it was not designed for that purpose as it does so much on its own and cannot tallk with the existing speaker

you can set the delay for the speaker. find it on setting.
This guy gives a bad review because he couldn't figure this out. Great speaker.
Anyone has WiFi issues . My device disconnects very often and I have to do a quick setup again

I read somewhere you can connect with Bluetooth, is this correct?
Also, can you turn the bass down on the Google Home Max like you can for the Mini in the Google Home app?
I think you can change the delay response in the home app. I'm not 100% sure but worth looking in to.
I've searched and searched, haven't found anything. I've reached out to Google Home support, just waiting for a call back to work through the issue. If I can get it figured out, I'll make a follow-up video.
I've only ever seen the delay correction setting on the Chromecast audio devices. Haven't seen them pop up in the Google Home device settings.
6 Months Later okay that makes sense. I knew I saw it somewhere in the app. I see it on my Vizio crave speakers.

How do we know your speakers are better?.....
Audio delay when connected to TV is unusable...
Not if u have a option for the delay
if i had this what would i need to wirelessly use it with my record player?
I would imagine you could use a 3mm audio jack converter to Bluetooth, and send the audio via Bluetooth to the speaker
Get a Sonos Playbar for your TV.
TheTechGuru i want to hope google addresses this issue before sonos takes their customers lol
Was wondering if it lags from the video?
SUBSCRIBED for the ONLY video out there that documented the video lag! *****
Suggest some other speakers with same audio quality without voice assistance (non smart).
I do not know how to reproduce what I see on the TV in the Google home max
I have Apple HomePod & Google Home Max now, and the MASSIVE FLAW u said is not even 1/4 of what the HomePod lacking.
It's literally only just for iTunes & selecred airplay from Apple devices.
Means, it's NOT even half of features, services, etc... of Google Home Max with $349 price.
Have a great day
I'm testing out the HomePod now, and you're right, it's really limited.... but at least they didn't put a 3.5mm jack with a 0.5 sec delay on it. :)
3:37 thats lit music
Love all your videos. You really keep us informed on all the new products as they come out. Always honest with your opinion and that I like the best. Keep it up!
Was the other speaker connected via splitter? Why didn't you plug it directly into your TV headphone jack and try that? Why did you assume that this can function as a passive speaker if it was never advertised to be used as one? I would say that the review itself is flawed.
The audio delay of the input jack has been fixed in a new firmware (118652) 3 months ago (reduce from 550ms to 39ms).
Those speakers work better synced via Bluetooth not shitty 3.5mm audio jack
8:12 Thanks Bluetooth 4.2 garbage. My speaker is also way out of sync and it's highly annoying. I bet if it used 5.0 it would be spot on, because my other speaker that use 5.0 has zero latency.
It's not intended to use it like your TV speaker

i jeard they fixed the lag

Do you have Phillips Hue
I do! 9 bulbs/lights in my office alone.
Jordan Keyes because u are using multiple speakers. Try just using one and see what happens
Who elses Google home picked up him constantly saying ok google
Google is working feverishly to correct this Obvious short-coming...and I say that as someone who has gone "Full Pixel" -- P-2 XL Phone; PixelBook i7/512; Google Buds, VR; Home Max (2); Home; and Home Mini(2). That I cannot pipe digital audio from my 4K TV to my Paired (stereo) Google Home Maxs is not very forward looking for Google...but, again, they are working on it.
I would love for that to be true!
Can you share your source with us?
Auxiliary cable sound doesn’t work. Definitely not Value for money.
They ain't made for tv it's made for music and being smart
It's been a long time that I saw any of your videos. Here I am months after and I see you with an Apple Watch and iPhone X, the hell happened to you?
Eh, people grow, people change. I still use Android phones/tablets, Windows desktops/laptops, Chromebooks, and Linux (for servers mostly).
Jordan Keyes people grow? So moving to Apple ecosystem it's growth? Ok...
He wants people to think he is successful
@@oscarmart1 🤣🤣🤣
Welp. This video made my google home go insane. Had to run and kill the mic on it. HA!
ok google... 20% volume... max volume
Have had mine for a week , I'm not impressed for the price .
Maybe at $200-250 I would be on board to keep it .
Just sounds like a louder more bass standard Google home
I'm sending it back on Monday
sitnlow4life let us know when you actually buy one.
sitnlow4life how would u compare this with sonos play 5, just based on this individual speaker's merit not considering the entire sonos audio system
Michael Richter had it on launch day December 11th ...
How about you ?
Want to see pictures and receipts?
Nadeem Shaikh I don't have a sonos unit to compare with , so I couldn't give you an honest answer , think there is a comparison between the sonos and the home max on UA-cam I saw
sitnlow4life not even close. This sounds 80% better.
Jordan Keyes Yep, pretty tempting feature-wise, but didn't hear such a speaker live yet. Maybe something for reviewing ...? :-)
Stop saying hey google.....sheshhhhh
THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING SYNCING PROBLEMS!

You should not use it for your tv.
Good video ruined by that iSore phone

Omg these comments
Do all your parents work at Google?
Is Google assistant the closest thing you have to a girlfriend?
I see people claiming its not supposed to do that
People claiming the delay is in settings
People claiming its an inherent result of non-adc
And doing like he insulted a family member
Meanwhile Google fixed it with an update
Pretty sure its fair to call that a flaw
Should mute hotwords when editing like other youtube reviews.
Flaw? What flaw! r u mixing cabled speaker (other speaker) with wireless speaker(google)?
Certainly they won’t be in sync!!!
My mom is going to buy me a Google Home a max
I really want to watch your content but you give so many google triggers it's unwatchable... Maybe block out the triggers?
Sorry about that. I've started muting the trigger words for smart home devices in my newer videos.
Thank you for the video

people always ask pointless questions
I don't see more than $100 coming out of my wallet for this speaker.
great then you play "Rungkad", wkwkwk
SHAKA BRA!
Why would anyone use it with their TV, you need a home theater system or sound bar man
My TV is new. No more 3.5mm, only spdif... I have no reason to buy this if I can't even use it on my TV.
Robbert van der Eem thats because it shouldn't be used as a speaker for your tv
Helena So you put this next to your existing speaker set up? Ok, makes sense...
Alexa says the Eiffel Tower is 1,063 feet 🤨
Alexa is including the broadcast antennas. I wouldn't think you'd include antennas in the height of a building, ijs
Timothy Oliver ahh. 🙈
