I enjoy the fact you were able to point out the upper control arm being the noise culprit. I have the same noise. But I'm going to replace all as well. Thank you
Common problem with this Sonata model. Control arms squeaking and struts giving up. This car in general is pretty solid. There are things you need to replace but the engine and transmission can go over 200k easily. Most common problems I can remember are control arms and struts, airbag warning lights, rear brake lights wont turn off, valve cover gasket leak, gas cap light
Absolutely love my '06 Sonata, just wish they put a little more effort in on the suspension category....some wiring issues as well but nothing to write home about.
Haha too funny, I have 90% of the problems you listed, but totally agree on how solid the drive line is, I replaced my valve cover gasket about 6 months ago, no more smoke shows, about to order the Detroit axle suspension kit
@@burakraymond1 the drivers side? The only way to fix this is to replace the whole mesh sensor inside the seat..but eventually it will give out and be a problem again.
Hey Chad, thanks for making this video, I have an identical Sonata, down to the paint color and even the bumper scrapes/faded headlights 😂 now fully confident in purchasing the Detroit Axle kit as I have the same creaky lofty problems, minus the rust 😈greetings from central Florida
I just wanted to fix the squeak and I was about to replace everyrhing but since you pointed out where it was coming from, i just sprayed some power lube up there and boom, no more squeaking🔥 ill still be prepared to replace in the future
Great video. I’m planning to replace the wheels using the stock harbor freight product. Maybe you could do a video? One video shows using a second bar to release the bead in two directions at once.
Dude, this is the best strut assembly video I've seen. I don't know if I could find anybody to help me. But I feel confident I could do this myself with some help provided I had the right tools
Great video, very helpful but I did notice, the bolt from bottom of wishbone came out going towards back. You put it back the opposite way. Not sure if it truly makes difference, but if so yea.
Just a friendly suggestion. Get a small can of Kroil - it will last forever for home wrenchers - and shoot every hardware connection related to any job the night before if possible. Not only will bolt break loose, the hardware itself will be totally rust free so you can inspect, replace if necessary. Of course don’t get anywhere near the brake disk with it.
Just today, a mechanic wants to charge almost $1400 for that same work you have done!? I think it's outrageous...what say ye? I'm not joking, as we say in the Caribbean.
$1400!?? Wow I believe this is a less than $500 job. Including parts. Maybe $600. I will change same parts here plus brake rotors and pads so I will tell u later .
Hi.thank you for this video. I used same struts, Detroit axle , now my car is a few inches higher, and i have some nosie on top , had someone of you same issues with D- Axle?
Hey Chad great video! I bought a suspension kit that also includes the tie rod end links and boots. When would I have to replace those do you have an idea ?
Ugh! Thaaaaank you. I was about to buy new struts to fix that god awful noise but now understanding that's not where it's coming from, I guess I could save a few bucks...lol honestly will end up doing a full suspension replacement just like you did in the video. Better safe than sorry, right?
Thanks for the video Chad!! I’m unable to get my sway bar links out with the vice grips on the other side and the nut just won’t budge. I’ve used heat, PB blaster and am now out of options. Any alternates would be greatly appreciated!!
I though you needed to measure the distance of the pins at the top.. Something to do with 2 of them being closer and one further... Is this not an issue on this car? Great video, BTW. Informative
I didn’t see any need for that. Just installed them like I removed them and worked perfectly. Glad you found the video informative! Thanks for watching!!!
Why do you use a ratchet to break the bolts loose but an impact wrench to complete the process? I would have thought the impact wrench is the better choice for breaking bolts loose.
My sonata's struts are shot, totally loose flopping around up top... What items other than the struts would I be wise to replace at the same time if it's been that way for a bit? Looking for function as the car is long in the tooth
Any idea on torque specs on upper 3 bolts or bolt on back of wishbone holding strut in??? Cant find ANY torque specs ANTWHERE!!! Only one I found was 40ft. lbs. on sway bar links
Well I see what your doing ,cause I got too same thing on my Sonata 2010, same side the upper strut bearing rubber plate split, So I temporary sprayed it with Blaster lithium grease, till part comes in on order, and I'll do same thing to the rubber squeaky wish bone at top on 3,000 mile oil change basis. The strut rubber plate is only 50.00 each, Not bad my other side seems totally fine, in good shape.
Must be a common problem with the Sonata. My ‘06 makes the same noise. Ken Towery couldn’t figure it out after $2k of repairs. I figured out online it’s probably the upper control arm. Plan on doing these repairs myself.
I have a 2007 hyundai azera Limited. Problm with the struts lots of squeaking noise. I'm not able to do the work myself. If you can give me a ballpark estimate, a mechanic would charge for parts and labor?. Then I'll know how much it will cost me. Thanks for posting this video.👍
Chad, just curious; how many miles were there on your Mom's car when you did these repairs? I'm about to do an '03 Hyundai Tiburon w/ 129K on it.... Bushings sound/ feel like they're ready for replacement on the rear suspension; the front McPherson struts are way worn; so I basically decided to rebuild the front suspension w/ some upgrades also.... Funny, the '06 Sonata front suspension looks almost identical to the Tiburon!
Hello Chad,,,were you fully satisfy with the DETROIT AXLE struts ? Did they outlast the original(OEM) from Hyundai ? Would you recommend me to buy them (DETROIT AXLE struts ) otherwise what brand do you recommend ? My 09, 2.4 , has only 100,000 Miles but I want to refresh the front suspension...Please let me know your thoughts .Thank you...Denis here, fom Montreal CANADA
i always tell DIYers remove with Battery Impact Wrench & tight with Torque Wrench\Digital Torque Monitor & dont repeat clicking\buzz sound. torquing is critical! 2139
its an 08, when you click on the amazon links for the parts thats what it brings up... probably the same assembly as a lot of different years though because why change up a simple working design.
Me changing my struts Ok he said loosen lug nuts then jacket up the car and put Jack stands under the hood. Me: jacks car up then pops hood trying to find out to fit these jack stands in there🤦🏽♂️🤣

So, will this work for a 2004 Sonata ?
Why do you use a ratchet to break the bolts loose but an impact wrench to complete the process?
I would have thought the impact wrench is the better choice for breaking bolts loose.
It puts a lot less stress on the impact, and also will give you a feel for if you’re just gonna snap a head off a bolt. It’s good practice imo
What is the jack points are you using? Both for jack stands and floor jack
After installation new part you need the car. need the alignment, or not ?
