it would have been interesting if you re-introduced the tang - I had a similar problem just recently. it ended up with the tang taking the bottom half of the tank and the tusk the top half. now they are fine with each other.

NEK Productions I’m glad it worked in your case and I’m not risking it! I got lucky catching the tang

Has been my favourite fish since I was a child and had no idea they could be kept lol
I will never forget the first tusk I had was in QT and the first time I ever fed it was a piece of prawn by hand I was expecting to just drop it in the tank and hope he would eat it.. BANG he smashed it right out of my hand before I even had time to react! Scared the shit out of me!!

you from middle tn? that's cool if so im north of nash about 30 mins im a planted tank guy for now though getting a few years of research before I run a salt so its a one and done type deal im very technical however in the chemistry, limnology, biology side of the hobby tough so its only natural

  • @roncnbb

I decided on a orange spotted tusk due to the fact that they're harder to find in the hobby. They are very similar in behavior, not athletic at all. Ive had him for around 8mths.

Harlequin tuskfish do not occur in Indonesia in any significant quantity and Fishbase does not even list Indonesia in the native range for the species. (www.fishbase.us/summary/SpeciesSummary.php?ID=12722&AT=Harlequin+tuskfish) While some sellers will claim their fish are imported from Indo, those fish are almost certainly coming from the Philippines. While tuskfish from the Philippines historically have had a reputation for poor survival and lackluster appearance compared to their Australian counterparts, this almost certainly has to do with differences in handling processes for the fish in the two countries. The species is only found on the east side of the Philippines, 15 to 20 hours away from the exporters in Manila and in the past this has presented logistical challenges in a country with still very much developing infrastructure. However newly implemented changes in logistics of getting the fish to Manila coupled with training and oversight in collection and handling practices for the fishermen are already resulting in noticeable differences in the fish from certain exporters in the Philippines. Aquarists should no longer be so quick to write off specimens from the Philippines and going forward many will be quite impressed with the quality, even compare to Australian fish.

In my 8' long 240 gallons tank, my tusk eats any new damsels who either play dead or aren't smart enough to hide in the rocks. He can't catch existing established damsels. ua-cam.com/video/ggW7OG2fQ0c/v-deo.html
