Hi George, thanks so much for watching and commenting, really appreciate your feedback! So glad you enjoyed the video and featured plants, especially the tall Euphorbias!! Best wishes, have a great day and happy growing!!
YAY Unboxing time haha and Oh my GOLLY WOW Joe :-D absolutely AWESOME BEAUTIFUL new additions to your amazing Cacti and Succulent Collection, we have bought from Uhlig Kakteen before and they have incredible plants, the Hoya kerri we got from them is MASSIVE now haha, all your new Mammillarias and awesome new Euphorbias are absolutely stunningly GORGEOUS, and the three ribbed Astro myriostigma and Cleisto aeurispina and Boswellia are AWESOME, it had been so mild here in Ireland but the temps have dropped more like normal November for the past week, thanks so much for sharing the incredible unboxing of your new stunners with us Joe, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Bavaria for a brilliant Wednesday XXXX
Hi Lyn, thanks as always for your awesome feedback and comments!! Excellent to hear that you too have had good experiences with your orders from Uhlig Kakteen, and yes indeed they do also have an impressive collection of Hoyas - but somehow I never seem to have too much luck and skill to succesfully grow these for all too long, as much as I truly LOVE them, haha!! Perhaps you can make a video to teach us all about succesfully growing Hoyas alongside our cacti & other succulents, I will be your most eager student, haha!! Yes, the weather has moved into "real November" mode here now too and from next week onwards we are predicted to get pretty frosty nights for quite a while...aarrggh, not looking forward to that..!! Anyways, thanks again for watching, commenting and supporting as always, and very best cactus greetings to you and Hans, have a great Thursday evening and a wonderful weekend ahead!! PLANT POWER & Happy Growing!!
@@cactusjoe Have a fantastic evening too Joe and a wonderful weekend ahead, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from Hans and me XXXX
Hi Joe! Thank you for sharing with us this amazing video! All your new plants looks healthy and beautiful. My favorite is euphorbia with yellow flowers. I wish you all the best! Greetings from Flowers Zone!
@Flowers Zone thank you very much, very happy that you enjoyed the unboxing video!! I agree with you, that Euphorbia with it's beautiful yellow flowers was definitely my favourite too, haha! And what a coincidence that it came as a highlight right at the end and bottom of the box! Have a wonderful day, best wishes and greetings from Bavaria to Albania!!
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! So happy that you liked my cactus plants and of course I am super happy that you are enjoying my channel, thank you!! Happy growing!!👍☺️🙏🌵🪴🌵🌼🌺🌸💚😎☀️🏜
Thank you so much, Mary, very happy that you found the plants from the unboxing beautiful! Thanks for watching and for your wonderful feedback, best wishes and happy growing of course!
Hey Tim, thanks so much for watching and commenting, your feedback is much appreciated! So glad you enjoyed the video!! Best wishes, hope you are having a wonderful day, happy growing!!
The last Euphorbias were real show stoppers!!!! The whole haul was beautiful. Thanks for having us in your greenhouse for the unboxing, it was a real treat, thank you.
Thanks so much David!! Super happy that you enjoyed the plants and the unboxing video, thanks so much for joining and watching!! I agree with you, those Euphorbias are real beauties, I was really very excited when I saw what was coming out of my ordered shipment there, as I was really not sure at all what to expect! Hope you are having a wonderful day, best wishes and happy growing!!
Terrific unboxing video. It's exciting to see all these new additions to your collection. They look really healthy. Astrophytum myriostigma tricostatum is an absolute wish list plant for me. Do you start any cacti from seed or do you prefer buying established plants? 🌵
Hi Justin, many thanks, wonderful that you enjoyed the unboxing video! Yes indeed, the Astrophytum had been on my wish list for quite some time too, now I just need a four-ribbed version and then I will finally have one each of the 3-, 4- and normal 5-ribbed versions, haha - the crazy things we are looking forward too as hobby collectors!! No one else would understand lol!! Regarding your question, I actually do both, grow from seed as well as swap or also occasionally buy my plants (the latter not very often, and mainly young plants). Over the years the emphasis has changed as I used to only grow from seed, but I suppose with age I have become less patient and would like to see the plants bloom a bit sooner, haha! Have a great day, best wishes and happy growing!!
I was excited watching Joe!😉🙌💖🌵Those mammillarias are awesome! I have some really old mammillaria elongatas and gracilis. They are very hardy plants. That Mataucana is something I don't have. That last unboxing Euphorbia inarticulata was beautiful
Hi Newman, thank you very much for your wonderful feedback, as always really very much appreciated!! Haha, I was really excited too!! Excellent to hear that you have allready made the experience of having these Mammillarias as being quite hardy plants!! Yes I totally agree, the last Euphorbia, from Yemen, was a real beauty, I myself was blown away, haha!! Thanks so much for watching and commenting, very best wishes to you in Japan, take care and happy growing!!
Thanks Joe for such a great video! Plant mail is the best! Would love a video of your process when you do get new plants into your greenhouse. Acclimating, repotting….looking forward to your next video! 🌵
Hi there, thanks for your awesome feedback and also your suggestion for a future topic, which I will be very happy to follow up on!! Haha, indeed I agree, plant mail is always the best mail!! Thanks again for watching and have a wonderful day!
Hi Joe, another fantastic video! 👍🏻 Very nice package you have received there, everything was packed up carefully and seems in a very good shape! 😄 I have a Mammillaria elongata myself, definitely a cool plant. I also especially liked the Astrophytum and the Yemen Euphorbia 🌵🌼 Here in Kassel, the first frost (and even snow!) had arrived a few days ago 😬🥶 Luckily, right in time, a Balcony-Greenhouse (with extra isolation foil and a heater for overwintering) we ordered arrived. Now the outdoor cacti (and also some of the indoor cacti) plus my margerites and geraniums can "enjoy" their (hopefully) safe winter dormancy 🙂
Hi Jacob, thanks so very much for your awesome feedback and also updates, as always really super to hear back from you!! Yes I must say, all the plants from Uhlig Kakteen were in marvellous shape and as you say, super packed!! I can really recommend them, as I say have been ordering for a long time there, always happy. WOW, that is really very good timing on your side, to have the Balcony-Greenhouse in place just before the winter is starting with more serious minus temperatures coming in December it seems. It sounds indeed like your collection of plants can now enjoy an excellent place for their winter dormancy, well done!! Thanks again for your feedback and comments, wishing you a relaxing Thursday evening, and hopefully an excellent weekend ahead!! Herzliche Grüße nach Kassel!!
Awesome unboxing, Joe. Fantastic new additions to your collection. I’ve seen a couple of other unboxings from that nursery and the plants always look super healthy. Thank you for sharing with us my friend. Have a wonderful day from Edith & myself and happy growing 👍🏻🌵🌺🌼☀️🌸🏜
Hey, many thanks indeed as always Daz, your feedback and support hugely appreciated!! Really super happy that you enjoyed the unboxing video and I totally agree, the plants from Kakteen Uhlig are always very healthy and in very good shape!! Best wishes to Edith and yourself, have a wonderful evening!!
AWESOME BOX!!!!! Nice haul of plants Joe!!! Euphorbia tortillis has proved to be a challenge. I bought mine about 5 years ago. Over the years it lost branches and shrunk each year, only turning more yellow each year. This year it finally ( for what reason I don't know) came to life!!! It grew well all summer, gaining branches!! Why did it do this?? I surely don't know. My matucana polzii ,according to the mice was delicious!! They ate it all!! My first mammillaria hahniana is now 40 years old!! And still blooms every year!!! I might have to look into this outfit. I didn't know they shipped to the US. Gotta love those Euphorbias!!! Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful new plants Joe!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, out to Bavaria, Germany 🇩🇪, have a wonderful day!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!!✌️💖🌵🌳🥀🌿🏵🌱🌲🌸🌴🌷🪴🌾🌹😃👍
Hey Clyde, as always really enjoyed your fantastic feedback, thank you so much for watching and commenting on the video - and super happy that you enjoyed the contents!! Wow, that is soo interesting to read about your own experiences with E. tortilis - I will keep you in the loop on how I fare with mine. Well, "great" to hear that mice also enjoy our Matucana polziis, they are clearly just as much into some of our cacti as we are, haha!! Wow, a 40-year old blooming M. hahniana, that sounds absolutely terrific Clyde, and must be a fantastic sight!! Thanks so much for your wonderful comments and for watching of course, very best wishes from a wintery Bavaria to Morris Park in the Ozarks!! Happy growing!!
Hello Joe, I am just discovering your great channel today and what a nice unboxing ! I loved it especially because I had the opportunity to visit the Uhlig Kakteen nursery last summer.I live in Paris but I am from Elsass originary so Stuttgart is not so far when I visit my family. What a nice nursery ! Of course I came back home with some euphorbia, caudex, astrophytum… (about 15 plants ! 🤣). For sure, I will watch all your previous videos and the futurs also ! 🌵🌵🌵💚💚💚
Hello Anna, a warm welcome to my channel, thank you so much for subscribing and for your awesome comments and feedback, really very motivating and appreciated! So interesting to hear that you have been to Uhlig Kakteen, and I think you have done well to leave the nursery with "only" 15 plants, haha, I worry that I would not be able to stay that disciplined, lol!!! Indeed, I would love to visit too, and am planning to do so hopefully sometime this year! Sounds like you are growing a very nice collection of succulent plants (Euphorbia, caudex, Astros, etc)! Do you grow them indoors or do you have them in a greenhouse? Once again thank you for joining the community, hope you enjoy all the other videos too, and find them useful and informative. Do let me know if there are topics that you would like to see covered, and I will do my best to do so! Very best wishes from my little greenhouse in Bavaria to you in Paris, have a wonderful week ahead and happy growing!!
Hello Donna, many thanks indeed for watching and commenting!! So glad you enjoyed the video and plant haul!! Sending best wishes, and hope you are having an awesome day, happy growing!!
Hi Robyn, a warm welcome and very best cactus and succulent greetings!! That is sooo cool that you are watching and enjoying the videos all the way from Australia!! Hopefully there is some useful information in my existing videos to help you get into growing cacti too! Actually there is not that much difference if you are already succesfully growing other succulents!! Generally speaking, only a wee bit less watering, a bit more sun and a slightly sandier/grittier water-draining substrate/soil, and bingo, haha!! Best of luck with your new cactus plants and hope you have a great week ahead, best wishes and happy growing!!
Hey Tom, many thanks for watching and for your brilliant feedback, haha, very happy that I could help start your day in a positive way!! Glad you liked that nice little Euphorbia from Yemen too!! Enjoy the rest of your day, have a great one!!
Thanks Gary, for watching and so glad you liked the plants! I do believe they ship to the US too, however this may require a fair amount of paperwork and phytosanitary certificates, which unfortunately don't come cheap. I think there is more info on the webpages, also in english. 👍🙌☺️🙏🌵🌵🪴🪴🌼🌺🌸💚😎☀️🙋♂️
Great unboxing, Joe. I have always been afraid to plant during dormancy, but maybe I need to rethink it. I was thrilled to see that I have the part of your order that is small on my list list already. Will you leave the small ones in the shipping pots for dormancy? I wasn't sure whether you avoid terracotta pots for young plants because you could not buy them there or quicker loss of moisture. Amazon has them, or I could sent them to you. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Bill, thanks so much for watching and for your excellent feedback and comments, as always truly appreciated, and super happy that you enjoyed the unboxing!! I will indeed leave all my plants in these original pots for the entire, or at least most of the dormancy period. And indeed I will keep them in the plastic pots into the coming growth period until they have grown a bit bigger, as they will otherwise dry out in my rel. warm greenhouse too fast. But many thanks for your very kind offer Bill!! And indeed I checked with Amazon, I could get them here too! Btw, I mainly repot my plants towards the latter end of the dormancy period, so in Feb/March in my location, as that is when all my plants are completely dry and root damages will be at a minimum. Then, just a few weeks after repotting (time for any injuries to heal in dry substrate), as the watering season slowly restarts, they can begin to grow new roots in their new pots and substrate. Hope you are having a wonderful day, very best cactus greetings and happy growing of course!!
Cor, some good stuff there Joe 😎 I didn't know that M. elongata could handle minus 10c, I'll try a small one on my outside bed. We've got a challenge on now, i've had a Matucana polzii for a few years and can't get it to flower, all it does is have more pups 🙄😁 Cheers 🙂🙂🌵🌵🙂🙂
Hey Ziggy, great to hear that you enjoyed the plant unboxing, thanks as always for watching and for your brilliant comments, really appreciated! I did not know about the hardiness of M. elongata either, so that will be both of us doing some outdoors experimenting there, haha!! OK, regarding Matucana polzii, challenge accepted, haha, I was wondering as well when I saw all those pups, whether that might influence it's ability to flower...I might propagate/root a few of the pups in the spring separately and then try out a few different growing locations... Have a wonderful day, happy growing!! Cheers!! 🙂🙂🌵🌵
Hi Cecilia, thanks very much for watching and for commenting, very happy you liked the purchased selection of plants!! I will be happy to put a video together about how I care for my Euphorbias, great idea, thanks you for that suggestion! I try not to repot them in the first months or even year, in other words, if they are coming from a cactus & succulent nursery and are already standing an decent, suitable well-draining substrate then I try to acclimatise them in their original pots first. In that way I get them used to the new environment step by step. First the new light and temperature settings in my location, then when they are used to that I venture to new soil and pots, but only when that really needs to be done. Hope this helps a bit in the interim. Have a great day, best wishes and happy growing!!
Hi Mary! Thank you very much, you are absolutely correct of course, Matucana is a town in Peru after which this cactus genus is named! As mentioned in the video, I also really like many cacti originally growing in South America, including many from Chile (Copiapoa, etc.) , Bolivia (Rebutia, etc.), ...and indeed of course also from Peru (like Matucana)! I assume you are growing these types of cacti too? Sending you very best wishes and warm cactus greetings to Italy! Thanks so much for watching and commenting, Ciao and happy growing!!
@@cactusjoe HI! yes, I also really like cacti and succulents; I also follow you on Instagram! I also bought some small cacti from uhlig kakteen when he came to the botanical garden in Rome 🌵
@@marymari7533 fantastic and thank you so much, Mary! Ah yes, brilliant, so you know Uhlig kakteen too! I bet the Botanical Gardens in Rome must be fantastic too, still on my "to visit" list!
@@marymari7533 let me go and double check, so sorry, Mary! It has been a bit hectic recently, so I have a bit of a backlog with my comms, sorry about that!
@6:30 Had one of those years back, no clue what it was till now. Mine were soft and relatively pliable, though, while yours appear to have some spines forming on the tips. Am I seeing that right, or is it just a little thirsty and drying some.
Hi there! I'm very glad that the video was useful and that it also helped identify your Euphorbia susannae, excellent!! Yes indeed, it has some thin, fine thorns at the tips of the little stems. The difference may be as a result of where they have been growing, typically the more sunny they would be growing, the more thorns and also "hardened" appearance they will have. But it can also be a slightly different variation that gives the slightly different appearance. Thanks for watching and commenting, best wishes and happy growing!!
I buy most plants at Uhlig :) Haven't seen any pests from them so far :D I get all plants bare root though, maybe because i am outside Germany.. Best regards from Denmark!
Hi Nick, thank you! Yeah, great to hear that you have been having good experiences with Matthias Uhlig's plants too! Indeed, I have so far never had any of his plants arrive with any pests, which is really a very important criterion for a top notch nursery to buy from! As far as I know, there is an option you can tick when placing your order online if you want to receive your plants in the original pots, or leave them a message along with your order. But maybe that is indeed only for in-country orders, not sure. Have a wonderful Sunday evening, sending you lot's of cactus greetings to Denmark!👍🙏😊🌵🌵🏵🌺🌼💚😎
@@cactusjoe I received Gymnos from Uhliig, 10 of them i found root mealybugs on yestoday... No answer from them at all now. Really sad because i had so great hope for them and needed a lot more plants... I just have to throw it all out i guess, really sad. Just an heads up. Best regards Nick
@@zhaezz84 oh, wow, very sorry to hear, that is not good news at all! And quite unusual I think, as that has certainly not happened to me before with plants from Uhlig! Well I would definitely isolate them from the rest of your collection, but you do not necesarily have to throw them all away. I would remove the substrate completely, i.e. wash the roots clean with a garden hose at low/medium spraying pressure. Then keep the plants outside (well away from your collection) in a location in the shade for the roots to dry and remain exposed to air for at least 2 weeks or so. I would also dunk the roots in a pesticide every few days, then allow to dry off again. Monitor to see whether the root mealy bugs are still there after that treatment. Then re-pot and start growing again - in isolation of course. And check roots after a month or two. With a bit of luck you can save a few of the plants that way, and also still avoid infecting your collection. Definitely also inform the folks at Uhlig (they can be a bit slow to respond, especially as there have been a few holidays here recently), with some supporting pictures - they should be willing to exchange the plants for healthy ones! Best of luck with this!
@@cactusjoe they gave me a 5 euro voucher for the 36 plants... I gave up on this hobby now, no real pesticides and all sellers i have tried have some kinda pests. I threw out all my plants and cut my 3k euro losses :x The cacti community is the best, but it seems impossible to me to get plants without pests. Thx for all your wonderful answers. I am sad and sorry but done with this. Best regards from your friend in Denmark!

@@cactusjoe Thanks for the potting tip.
Nice video!!
Hi, many thanks, I'm super happy that you enjoyed the video, have a wonderful day!!
@@cactusjoe ☺️👍🙂 thank you.
Cheers!! 🙂🙂🌵🌵
@@cactusjoe I've planted out a M. elongata today. I've got a few of the Matucanas on the go too, we'll see what happens 😄 Cheers Joe 😊😊🌵🌵😊
Great purchase! Could you show how you care and transplant euphorbias , they die every easily with me, after I change it to a new pot : thank you
Hi Cecilia, thanks very much for watching and for commenting, very happy you liked the purchased selection of plants!!
Matucana= Perú 🇵🇪 Ciao from Italy!💚🌵
@@cactusjoe you haven't accepted me on instagram yet!
@6:30
Had one of those years back, no clue what it was till now.
Seriously beautiful plants ❤ Where do you live in Germany?
Hello Heather! Thanks, very happy that you liked the plants! I live in the southern state of Bavaria 😊👍🌵
@@zhaezz84 I understand, very sorry and sad to hear this 😥
