i discovered lori in the fall of 2018 and 6 years later i still come back to her music to ground myself and think about what i’ve gone through in these past 6 years. her voice and songs are so nostalgic and this is one of my favorite songs by lori and forever will be!
I have been in recording studios for over 30 years and this is sitting on a porch swing and i could not have recorded it better, hats off to your whole crew. and what a stellar song..
I discovered her music last summer and I swear it is all I ever listen to. Her voice is pure, her lyrics are clever "("What if I was smarter than Einstein's daughter" How can you get more clever?} and ring true, I just love listening to her.
I would love for Lori to release her other song “Til You’re Grown” as a bonus track and then a collection of her talking about the stories behind each of the songs she has written. That would be great!
It's been quite a while since Sheryl and I saw you at Eddy's Attic in Decatur. We've moved on, to Asheville that is. You a wonderful artist. I have been going to concerts since I was 15 in 1965 and I can't think of anyone more honest and talented. Hope you come down to this great city soon!
For the love of God, who is the idiot who gave this performance a thumbs down??? One of my very favorite songs of hers, and love the quiet acoustic solo performance. Simply, beautiful...
I just watched a high school teenage girl at the (NAF NAF Cafe in west Knoxville Tennessee) cry after hearing Lori take the Lords name in vain. (in this song) Her mother said to burn her cd’s & they left. I had to ask the mom the artist name & song. So I looked it up here. Wow Lori is a great talent but as for that little girl I guess words truly can be a two edged sword. The upset girl had a sweater on that said (Spartans) “All the time I’ve waisted on you” is amazing! btw
You are one of THE best songwriters to the soundtrack of my life. You're like a psychic medium musician or something! LOL I mean that in the kindest most beautiful way. You had me at the Kitchen Tapes.
"But your heart was in the dark and my was in the weeds. And I'm sure the dreamer who built the first trapeze, fell in love with someone who grew to resent the god damn thing"..... Oooof... just realized this is a love song.
We wanted to know when we'd be free What life looked like on the other side of that sanctuary Believin' somehow we'd make them proud Knowin' the sins they made and figuring we could stay on common ground Cigarette smoke in an August sky Drinkin' the beers you convinced your older brother to buy We hadn't made any of our mistakes Our world was in the cradle but innocence wasn't in the grave And I know we can't go back in time But every now and then you look at me and I know you wonder why We can't get back to when September was our only adversary In the lot behind St. Mary's Well I thought I'd be all you'd need But your heart was in the dark and mine was in the weeds I'm sure the dreamer who built the first trapeze Fell in love with someone who grew to resent the goddamn thing And I know we can't go back in time But every now and then you look at me as if to wonder why We can't get back to the love we made before our teenage dreams were buried In the lot behind St. Mary's St. Mary's A nightlight glowed in the rectory We told ourselves the pastor must be sound asleep But now we're old enough to know he never slept And that God's love is almighty, but our love is just bones and flesh And I know we can't go back in time But every now and then you you reach for me and I close my eyes and try To get back to that summer and the blue jeans we were wearin' In the lot behind St. Mary's St. Mary's

I would recommend this to my Daughter but she's religious , you said GD , shame. Don't get me wrong I love your style, and your voice .69 year old fan .
Love you music, but $427 is the cheapest seat available to see you at Ryman.. How can any normal person afford to see you? this is enormous price, offensively expensive.

Finest handmade music, love it! Greetings from the lower Rhine Area in Germany, Markus
It's obvious this "music video" needs nothing more than Lori singing on a porch swing.
"But your heart was in the dark and my was in the weeds. And I'm sure the dreamer who built the first trapeze, fell in love with someone who grew to resent the god damn thing"..... Oooof... just realized this is a love song.

Beautiful love your voice 😍😍
We wanted to know when we'd be free
What life looked like on the other side of that sanctuary
Believin' somehow we'd make them proud

Our world was in the cradle but innocence wasn't in the grave

We can't get back to when September was our only adversary
In the lot behind St. Mary's

Lori Mckenna és a la música folk americana el que Beethoven fou a la música clàssica, dos genis.

Wow. Disliking this is weak.
Negative.
The GD part was very unnecessary. Major thumbs down.
I agree. Otherwise a good song, but when I heard that, I thought the same as you.
Beautiful!
