🤩 wooow it sends the waves through the cheekbones?! I'm actually so excited about this! one of my biggest wish was to listen to music in water (well without others hearing it too) looks so so good! I cant wait to try them myself!
Thanks for another interesting review. I am pleased you enjoyed them and I can see the appeal for longer swims. Cookie is a proper little scene stealer 🥰
I watched like 20 "best swimming earphones" videos, and like 10 review videos... Thank you for yours. Yours was real world implicating and actually useful use cases! Thanks again.
Where you swimming? Looks good! Thanks for the info about the headphones. I used to use headphones in a pool to kill the monotony. Will certainly check them out.
Yep, any mp3 can be uploaded. You can switch between play, shuffle and repeat modes, but you have no display to select a particular track etc. I downloaded a podcast series, but it started to play them in newest order first (reverse order), so I think I'll load one on at a time.
I’ve been trying this out. See my recent comment up the thread. Getting the material onto the player is fine. Actually listening while swimming maybe not so much.
I remember listening to Tangerine Dream while walking along a beach in thick sea fog - so atmospheric! Swimming with music sounds awesome. Steer clear of the JAWS theme tune though?!
I did have one tune which had some more ominous overtones, I had to stop swimming for a sec and move it on! It was funny how it affected my mood. The more upbeat stuff was great though! 🏊🎵💃😃
I just got mine today and tried them out . I couldnt figure out if I should put it under the cap or over but I do flip turns and they did not stay one unless I put them under. Loving them so far. Watching you made me want to find a beach to swim
Hi rach, I enjoyed your simple and honest review of the xtrainer. Just wondering, for the mp3 downloads, do you happen to know if there is anyway we can play based on playlists or we can only play the entire downloaded song list and shuffle if we prefer to shuffle? Thanks. Eugene from Singapore 😊
I must admit I was a doubter, I see it as more useful for longer pool swims - in fact I listened to a podcast during my training swim last night, it was a great experience!
I just tried them in a pool - first time I've used them I thought it was a bit fussy trying to get the hat, goggles and device sitting properly. When I put the swim cap over the back which juts out, it pushed the transmitters too far forward so it probably wasn't right over the cheek bone, making the sound quieter than it should have been. Also, without the ear plugs, all I heard was my breathing and bubbles...it was hard to hear the music/podcasts I'd uploaded. The most unsatisfactory bit was that as I turn my head to breathe, one side of my head being out of the water made a big difference to the sound. I had it on Swim Mode which sounded very different when one side of the device was lifted out of the water. I'm sure I'll work it through hopefully so it functions more satisfactorily as i try it a few more times. But I would be interested to know if you experienced a similar disparity in the sound as you inhaled with one ear under and one ear above the water. As to the cap over the back of the device pushing the transmitters forward, it didn't look like that happened to you. Wonder if I'm dong something wrong or different. I think I'll practice at home looking in the mirror to see what's happening. My cap may be tighter than yours. I'd really be interested if you could give me your comments on these issues and how, if you did, you solved them. Thanks, Linda
Hi Linda, thanks for reaching out. I always swim with earplugs and I did find my breathing noisy when I first started with the plugs a few years ago. I didn't notice a change to the sound. I did find that music was easier to listen to than podcasts though because any disparity in sound was easier to deal with. I was using it in a pool when I tried listening to the podcast and I found that turning at each end disturbed my concentration. I also found that I had the sound up really loud, so after the first pool swim I ended it up with a headache. I didn't find it too difficult to position the bar when I did swim with a cap, it did take a bit of fiddling, but I managed to keep it on the cheekbones. In the pool I don't wear a swim cap so i didn't have to fiddle about with the positioning of the back bar. I hope this helps.
On another’s review, he was playing his music without mounting it on the cheeks and the music is audible. My question is, once mounted on your cheeks, can others hear your music?
I asked these for Xmas, partly as you liked them so much. However, didn’t think they worked so well for speech audio perhaps. I estimate I could maybe hear 50-60% of output properly clearly when swimming. It varied with my head moving (and was actually quite a good prompt to keep my head down). This quality would likely be fine if listening to music, following a beat, baseline etc. Trying to follow along with spoken word though ended up just being frustrating. Pity, as these are an interesting technology and a lovely looking design. However, I just don’t think the sound quality is good enough in water.
@@EverydayAthleteRach Thanks. Yes discovered that function. Am in the process of trying out various configurations in the pool (sea a little rough just right now). I suspect the root of it is that we listen to music (especially when exercising) slightly differently from speech. Not to worry tho. I find your reviews really helpful btw. Certainly have helped me sort out the useful from the useless when it comes to my lockdown swim kit. Thanks.
@@drjohnmcgowan Any reviews on the headphone after you tested the swim function for speech content? I am looking for something I can listen to my audiobooks, however, after trying the last 3 headphones and returning them, no luck so far. I have not tried this kind in specific yet.
@@aycajr Hi. It was speech that was the problem really. Just too interrupted while I was swimming. Also, for audio books, there are likely to be some issues getting proprietary formats onto the device (titles from audible etc). Out of the water they were great btw.
Great review. I'm interested in knowing if I can pull my cap fully over my ears whilst wearing the Xtrainerz. If no, is there a constant water flow within the cap? Thx!

I'm using a Garmin Fenix 5s which I've had for a couple of years. I'm happy with it, it does alsorts of whizzy things, but all I do is measure distance and time and look at the temperature in the app afterwards.
They do make bluetooth bone conducting headphones, but those are not IP68 waterproof. I did like not having to use my phone battery to access the tunes, leaving it at the ready if I needed it :)
The issue with Bluetooth is that it doesn't connect under water. That's just the way Bluetooth technology works unfortunately. I had waterproof Bluetooth headphones but I could only use them for head up breaststroke. I bought these and I'm really enjoying them!
