I gave DA2 like a 7.5/10 because it definitely kept me entertained and was fun. But Origins definitely takes the cake between the two, which I gave like a 9/10.
I first played Origins after DA2 had been released so I was able to play them back to back and I was so incredibly disappointed. DA Origin is brilliant and I loved the characters and genuinely cared about what happened to them. I didn't feel that way about ANYONE in DA2. Even King Alistair was a disappointment, he felt like an imposture. Also if I had to enter one more cave to fight someone or something I was going to scream.
@VeytheVeteran DA2's not so bad that I'd throw it away, but it might get missplaced. It was a half-hearted effort, but there were moments, though few, that were actually exciting. If another Dragon Age comes along which we all probably suspect, they'd better make up double for 2's shortfalls.
Gamespot, i have also written a story on your C&C Tiberian Twilight Video Review, i mentioned there that the background music was a bit too loud. A consequence of this was that the (great) presenter was difficult to hear. I must admit, this video review has improved on the volume of the background music. But still when the presenter talks the background music could be turned down a little bit more, Thanks!
@Darkstalion You actually can import your old character if you want. That way you can continue leveling your character and also get new specializations!
@Qwetzgreen yes, you need to have dragon age origins, if your planning on playing pc, you can pick up the ultimate edition which includes the game and this expansion, as well as the stone prisoner companion quest and all other content for $40 bucks. That is if you live in North America. Hope this helped
Yes, as I said earlier it's too limited in every way, I think there should be more talent/spell trees which they improved greatly in Awakening, but I also like the fact that you can improve existent talents and spells in DA2 like the upgraded freezing spell combined to the upgraded mighty blow. But I agree with you, a wide open world is crucial for any rpg, we could visit more countries like Tervinter or Antiva and play other races as well including the Kossith.
@animeflagger10 For me it was about 45 hours first playthrough on normal (did quite some sidequests as well). Indeed, first playthrough. Some people don't want to play it another time and yet another time. Yet others, like b00m (and me), want to play it more often than once. Perhaps you want to check out all the other origins? That is about 1 hour for each origin. Perhaps you'd like to try it on Nightmare again?
@Liamoh1994 Personally I thought the Mother was alot harder than the Architect. I thought the hardest bosses were the Archdemon, Queen of the Blackmarsh, the Mother and Gaxkang the Unbound (if you aren't prepared for him)
@Solareffects If you do all the side quests, get all the good loot,play through all 6 of the origins and get all 4 different endings its a lot of game play. If your not into click-n-kill games with good story like Fallout and Diablo you probably got bored really fast.
@MRKetter81 maybe just the way you built your party affected the amount of potions you chugged. Melee characters walking in and bashing things up is traditional. While magic users are also traditionally harder to play. it's classic =P I personally can't say that this expansion is better I haven't played it so i trust your judgement along with everyone elses who says it's not as good. I just thought I'd point those things out. No offense.
@Liamoh1994 Yes you can, you can create a new Orlesian Warden that is premade at level 18, and the level cap is 35, though I've never managed to get above 33 myself :P
@Aleque If you read the story you will know that it always took mankind decades to totally erradicate the darkspawn on the surface after a blight ends -.-
@thewizofmasta depends on u tbh, dont listen to most about ranting about DA2, its not a bad game, but personally i liked Dragon age origins, the story was better, made u care about whats going on in the world and the combat mechanics were very RPG like, DA2 was more fast paced action oriented, problem was, it was very simplied, made for an fps person going rpg u could say, the story wasnt as big or epic as DAO tho, but the characters in it were good too and it was a fun game too
I liked WoW when I played my 14 day trial, but I don't really want to pay monthly for it. I would compare the controls to this game, but I think that's it.
hey, looks good! one critical unanswered question that are on many "Dragon Age Collector's Edition add ons" Is it incompatible with any of those or are these bugs being brought to the attention of Bioware? I think i is an important question and the reson I haven't bought the game(expansion Awakenings) is it is still unanswered. I wish it were because looks like fun otherwise fun I'll miss out on if it is incompatible with the Collector's Add ons.
@detdadet97, it's so funny how many people that happens to. I literally quit about a week after I hit level 80. Plus I was having to deal with so many random groups, fast raids, etc. There was NO socializing whatsoever. It was "rush rush rush, all buisness." Like all the hardcore players just didn't care about the social aspects. I figured, if that's how it's gonna be. I might as well play something with an actual storyline, not some fragmented garbage.
the one thing that i didn't like about the expansion the reviewer already stated. everyone is getting into the Grey Wardens now and it just seems like its another power hungry group. would have been nice to have more then one character from origins in this one but oh well.
@XxMrHabanerOxX Not everyone has english as their native language bro. For people like me, it is thousand times more easy to understand reading than listening, although i didn't use the subtitles on this video.
uhh... dude, the world o dragon age is called theadas, and ferelden is just a small part of it. in dragon age awakening, you are not in ferelden, but in amaranthene
My only complaint about Dragon Age: no matter if you kill either just a small rat, or an enormous legion, your armor is always covered in the same amount of blood. Rather unrealistic, no?
Whatever RPG you look at , it wont have the "Dark Heroic Fantasy" genre or feeling as I call it , rather than Dragon Age. Where I can throw those words back at you those games are no where near the experience given by Dragon Age and the Dark Theme. As I quote Niall from Dragon Age , it is'nt 100% accurate from tip to toe. Here it is Niall: "Darker times , greater acts of heroism eh ?" This should give the ones who have'nt played DA a hint of what the game is all about.
I loved DA2, but in a different way. DA:O was a tactical and cerebral RPG, with a more interesting story. DA2 was an stripped-down, visceral action-game affair with light RPG elements. Both games succeed immensely at being what they aim for. Both games are exceptional in their own right. But DA2 alienated the die-hard fans of the original, and it didn't help that Bioware did nothing to market DA2 as a different experience from the first.
hmm a question. Do you first complete DAO then after that u buy this and...? What do u do with this beacuse u need the DAO for this. I don't got DAO but i was wondering about buying it then when i'ved completed the game maybe buy this XD
Hey Guyz,i just want to know,when i import my Dragon Age origins Guy to the Awakening,can i change his look,so he can look a little older?AND,if i meet alistair,he will know me?:D
on steam sale now for $6 this and the main game. Never played this dragon age but after playing inquisition i want to try this out! Funny I was thinking about getting it last night then it goes on flash sale.
I have a question: If you download this DLC and then you go play the normal game and make a new player are you able to get the new talents/spells and stuff on the new player? (360) thx....
wait what? anders is in dragon age awakening? i have beaten dragon age plenty of times but i havnt picked up any dlcs not that i dont want to though. i thought anders was completely new to dragon age 2 this is pretty cool though as i like anders. im gonna go scroung up 25 dollars now.
Looks nice, but I'll wait till I see it for $20. I am still on my 2nd game on the original. Still too much to do for me to justify buying this. DA is going to be a great series. I can't wait to see what Bioware is going to do with this franchise.
Ok first off the game is about $18 to $20 on amazon so now the games worth the money. Second If you really look at the game its actually pretty good still. The new abilities are great and the new skills are also good (and actually useful) Third @MarkVanSlobbe Thats really ridiculous.
my dragon age origins version was bugged the way that I couldnt get the downloadable content with the shale and blood dragon armor. There fore I wouldnt give that game a top notch character as that is a lack of service from bioware. And I have spoken with their "professional supporters" without any luck. they saw the problem but didnt do much. anyways then its a good thing one has oblivion and skyrim coming soon :P
They definitely dumbed down the tactical part of the game. You can walk up to all the mobs in DA2 and just mash skills and win. The reason it's faster paced is because you don't have to think tactically. My biggest problems with it though are that they took out some huge rpg elements: playing as different races with different origin stories, exploring different towns/cities, and less conversation choices. They should have expanded upon those not taking them out.
Bioware: 1. (Persuade): Please. Buy the game. It would do no harm but enjoyment. 2. This game is dangerous. Don't buy it! 3. (Intimidate): Buy it now or be forever banned from Bioware! 4. (Cunning): The game is cheap. You would enjoy the game very much for a cheap price.
jamister91 I know what you mean, i beat the architect in 2 minutes and it took 30 minutes + 5 group revivals to beat her, lawl ogrhen was the last one standing when i beat the bitch
In the awakening u can find a high dragon in blackmarsh if u find all the dragon bones in blackmarsh. i have completed origins like 5-6 times and i want the Traverler achievement but carnt seem to get it have been to everybit of fereldon i think anyway if u wanan help me message me and ill give u my xbl gamtertag
DA2 is superior in every technical feature, battle mechanics, gameplay, graphics. The ONLY problem that made us all disappointed is that it's LIMITED in every way you can think of.
@theman3561 None taken... This expansion doesn't fix much at all, and breaks what was so awsome about the original.That's my gripe with this video review The game play for the original is fun... but far from needing no improvements.
Why is it that everyone at Gamespot compares with the original game? This is an expansion, not the original DA. It doesn't have to be as good. I mean, would they rather have no expansion at all?
@TheCrazer666 So what? well I think you missed out abit from side missions with the shale and his attached bonus quests... I think its relevant.. plus I miss out the blood dragon armor. I havent played blood mage yet but in wiki oblivion it sounds pretty powerful and neat. so that would be nice if it was able.. atleast they gave me new code to try out at login screen but that didnt work out too lol so ya I think that sux. and ya its a cool game but imo not the best one around
I gave DA2 like a 7.5/10 because it definitely kept me entertained and was fun. But Origins definitely takes the cake between the two, which I gave like a 9/10.

Hello friend, I read your 12-year-old comment today ✌️
Gamespot, i have also written a story on your C&C Tiberian Twilight Video Review, i mentioned there that the background music was a bit too loud. @Darkstalion You actually can import your old character if you want. That way you can continue leveling your character and also get new specializations!
@Toxicmountain97 both, you could pay to download it from a link on their site or you can buy the disc
@Qwetzgreen yes, you need to have dragon age origins, if your planning on playing pc, you can pick up the ultimate edition which includes the game and this expansion, as well as the stone prisoner companion quest and all other content for $40 bucks. always helps to have a few points in the entropy-waking nightmare tree for crowd control, it makes a whole bunch of mobs fight each other for 30 sec.
@jamister91 imo the hardest bosses were the archdemon, flemeth and queen of the blackmarsh.
@ksin82 yea you do it;s an expansion not a sequel
@animeflagger10
For me it was about 45 hours first playthrough on normal (did quite some sidequests as well). Indeed, first playthrough. Some people don't want to play it another time and yet another time. There should be a Challenge mode where you could take on waves of enemies after the game is over....
@XxMrHabanerOxX
Where are the subtitles?? I can't see em?
@Solareffects If you do all the side quests, get all the good loot,play through all 6 of the origins and get all 4 different endings its a lot of game play. If your not into click-n-kill games with good story like Fallout and Diablo you probably got bored really fast.

@BobbyTLP
no they're not, the only character returning is oghren
yes it is i have it. You get all DLC DA:O and DA:Awakening
@thewizofmasta depends on u tbh, dont listen to most about ranting about DA2, its not a bad game, but personally i liked Dragon age origins, the story was better, made u care about whats going on in the world and the combat mechanics were very RPG like, DA2 was more fast paced action oriented, problem was, it was very simplied, made for an fps person going rpg u could say, the story wasnt as big or epic as DAO tho, but the characters in it were good too and it was a fun game too

does your character come back in this if he made the ultimate sacrafice or do u have to make a new character
hey, looks good! one critical unanswered question that are on many "Dragon Age Collector's Edition add ons" Is it incompatible with any of those or are these bugs being brought to the attention of Bioware? I wish it were because looks like fun otherwise
fun I'll miss out on if it is incompatible with the Collector's Add ons.
@gabbonoo haha you have to pay 60$ for the downloadable expansion when the aus dollar is 95c US
Hey Guyz,i just want to know,when i import my Dragon Age origins Guy to the Awakening,can i change his look,so he can look a little older?

why is there subtitles? we can hear perfectly fine..

@XxMrHabanerOxX Not everyone has english as their native language bro. For people like me, it is thousand times more easy to understand reading than listening, although i didn't use the subtitles on this video.
@SethZankuten if people are comparing this to WoW it is the same as comparing fallout new vegas with black ops.
hey can you import your characters back to dragon age origins? please answer
I agree, it's time to head back to Ferelden.
dragon age inquisition is looking pretty good. definitely interested to see how that turns out
@b00mQQ Yes I know but still,it is in Wow and for what he was asking I thought it was close enough that it didn't matter
uhh... dude, the world o dragon age is called theadas, and ferelden is just a small part of it. in dragon age awakening, you are not in ferelden, but in amaranthene
@VeytheVeteran
if u judge it by its own merits this game is actualy pretty good.
think about it, what if u played dragon age 2 befor playing origins.
@MistahBarbi UH no it's an expansion....DA 2 would not come out this quickly
My only complaint about Dragon Age: no matter if you kill either just a small rat, or an enormous legion, your armor is always covered in the same amount of blood. Rather unrealistic, no?
Mmm I thought a dual wield warrior with dexterity higher than the strength stat was the best class imo
its on the deal of the week thing on xbox this week, should I get it, or can I rent it somewhere?
this is the overpowered mod of origins
@Qwetzgreen anytime brotha
Depending on your previous ending will that be a difference wether you have to make a new character or not ?
"thank the maker" "grey wardens" "darkspawn".... somehow doesn't bring any pleasant memories >.>
wered u get that armor oghren has?
@Enigmaprince So what? You can't get the OP armor at the begging? This game is one of the best games ever in my opinion.
Here it is
Niall: "Darker times , greater acts of heroism eh ?"
This should give the ones who have'nt played DA a hint of what the game is all about.
Hi,
after you complete Awakening are you able to carry on the playn unlike in Origins
this exapnsion pack is awesome, u guys really should give it a bite. well, there r no romance in the DLC though
why does the reviewer say ou got back to fereldan, doesn't this take place on orlais?
I loved DA2, but in a different way. DA:O was a tactical and cerebral RPG, with a more interesting story. DA2 was an stripped-down, visceral action-game affair with light RPG elements. Both games succeed immensely at being what they aim for. Both games are exceptional in their own right. But DA2 alienated the die-hard fans of the original, and it didn't help that Bioware did nothing to market DA2 as a different experience from the first.
can you play this without finishing the game and how much does the level cap increase by
As a standalone game it was excellent as a sequel it was disappointing but still excellent
Would any of you guys recommend getting this?
I LOVE DRAGON AGE and I also want to get the darkspawn chronicles.
First one fucking ruled, and this one just made it a little more awesome. Who doesn't like new spells
hmm a question. Do you first complete DAO then after that u buy this and...?
What do u do with this beacuse u need the DAO for this.
I don't got DAO but i was wondering about buying it then when i'ved completed the game maybe buy this XD
@Sw0rdm3nz thats not confirmed..
0:26 can you get that armor?
My alistair wears the same armor as the first cinematic in this vid..
@lmaoarandy Just a role playing game. The entire game is played offline.
they got 13,000 subscribers so far
is this some kind of DLC for Dragon Age Origins ?
Valey yes
Hey Guyz,i just want to know,when i import my Dragon Age origins Guy to the Awakening,can i change his look,so he can look a little older?AND,if i meet alistair,he will know me?:D

No
@Jon8huang play which game?
@BlitzBlackout
oh okay thanks for the clarification
@MalcolmXcellent that was supposed to be a joke right???
wait what? anders is in dragon age awakening? i have beaten dragon age plenty of times but i havnt picked up any dlcs not that i dont want to though. i thought anders was completely new to dragon age 2 this is pretty cool though as i like anders. im gonna go scroung up 25 dollars now.
wat is the best dragon age for ps3 is it just dragon age:origins??
Whats the level cap?
should i get this game for pc of xbox360
Looks nice, but I'll wait till I see it for $20. I am still on my 2nd game on the original. Still too much to do for me to justify buying this. DA is going to be a great series. I can't wait to see what Bioware is going to do with this franchise.
hopefully dragon age inquisition will be the best of the three. :)
gary groenewold nope ahah
Specifically dual wielding daggers focusing on cunning. Get Momentum ASAP. Back stabs all days with no effort.
Ok first off the game is about $18 to $20 on amazon so now the games worth the money. Second If you really look at the game its actually pretty good still. The new abilities are great and the new skills are also good (and actually useful) Third

Great to see there's still people left with a sense of humour.

They didn't take most of tatics and actually I think they work better in DA2 without stupid friendly fire and sword/staff gestures.
@RapidAero I believe so yah
Bioware:
Lol sorry about my first post lol but do you need xbox live to import characters
jamister91 I know what you mean, i beat the architect in 2 minutes and it took 30 minutes + 5 group revivals to beat her, lawl ogrhen was the last one standing when i beat the bitch

In DA:2 - Mage
DA2 is superior in every technical feature, battle mechanics, gameplay, graphics. The ONLY problem that made us all disappointed is that it's LIMITED in every way you can think of.
just was like she could summon a horde of darkspawn and they would take out my healers (i was playing as a rouge)
any idea or this'll get cheaper?
1:22 OH SHIT IT'S A BEAR! lol LOVE this game(Havent played awakening yet,though)
is this a complete game or a dlc pack?
agreed they (blizz) made wow and just keeps on expanding it and that to is not a stand alone hope cataclysm is better n is a stand alone
Should I get Dragon age origins, or dragon age origins awakening?
Get both, they should be pretty cheap by now. ;D
@theman3561 None taken... This expansion doesn't fix much at all, and breaks what was so awsome about the original.That's my gripe with this video review
The game play for the original is fun... but far from needing no improvements.
Do you need another game for this to work on PC?! Please tell me quickly!!!
@gabba1gabba1hey
In a way thats not bad. Theres plenty of games for $60 thats shorter then 10 hours.
the mother was a bigger pain than the archdemon
Why is it that everyone at Gamespot compares with the original game? This is an expansion, not the original DA. It doesn't have to be as good. I mean, would they rather have no expansion at all?
@TheCrazer666
So what? well I think you missed out abit from side missions with the shale and his attached bonus quests...
