Every time I hear a review take points away just for not having multiplayer it instantly loses credibility for me. Sure some games it definitely needs it, but with other games like this one I think it's just better to rate it for what it does have and not penalize it for what it doesn't.
Unfortunately, Gamespot's reviews always have too many "unfortunately" in them. This game may be a little cliche at some points but it's cool nonetheless.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think a game needs to have multiplayer to be good. Heck I didn't even have internet at my house until about 6 years ago, so I played plenty of games without multiplayer. But I do have to say that this game sure would be fun if it had an insane dogfighting/shootout mode with 32 players or something. I guess my point is that while it isn't necessary, it would elevate what I already consider a good game to legendary status.
I just came across this underrated gem on ps now. My first thought was wow....this a science fiction tinged uncharted with a jetpack. I'm really digging it even now
This game made me feel like boba fett if he was good and blended with nathan drake I think this game has the best jetpack in it with all the upgrades needs a sequel set in a massive city or a huge open world on PS4 or Xboxone
I just bought it for the Jet Pack gameplay and man, did it took a while to get there...but it was oh so worth it. I love the fact that your arms and legs flail around as you jet through the skies. It's so annoying yet amusing....and fun. The flight in Iron Man:The Game was okay, but the Jet Pack mechanic in Dark Void really beats Iron Man by a long shot. Take what you have in Dark Void and put it in a sandbox style game with a setting like LS from GTA5, add in Multiplayer = you're gonna have a hell of a time.
Personally, when I first played the game, I was young and hot blooded. Perhaps not the best type of gamer in training for a game like this. But now, looking back, I see the awe in the sticky cover mechanics and the vertical combat as something cool. Sadly, I'm struggling to find a copy so I can see if it was just my young mind that lacked the enthusiasm to properly play through it.
Sure Dark Void's not the best game around, but it is fun flying around with the jet pack and the dogfights are awesome. It's great to see the Rocketeer in action. REVIEWERS please stop comparing ever 3rd person shooter with a cover system to Gears or UNCHARTED niether of those games have you flying around in a jet pack ( it's so much fun). Dark Void is worth playing and there is DLC on the way. I'm really a fan of the air combat either with the jet pack, survivor's jet, or jacking a ufo.
Awesome little game, reminded me of the early Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers. t,v, serials. This game felt really fresh and different to me, It was a lot of fun. Just fucking about flying around was awesome.
this game is so cool! My dad bought it in Italy for me as a present for when he came home, and I'd heard of it before. Was a suprise! Don't usually get video games for random buisness trips. I loved it! Infact, im half way through it on the hardest difficulty. One of my favourite games, and a valuable addition to my collection.
I got this used on sale at Gamestop for $2 in spite of the horrible critical reviews. I gave it an 8/10 and I would have given it a 9/10 if it weren't for a few horrible glitches. 3 of them happened in one chapter.1)I got stuck in cover and couldn't move or shoot. 2)The music and sound of gunfire stopped until I restarted the checkpoint. 3)I had 2 parts with HORRIBLE framerate issues, far worse than I've ever seen. Then later in the game I couldn't progress because my AI partner got stuck.
This game has really stood the test of time. Though the campaign could be a bit better flushed it still is pretty good. I love this game and it will always be a favorite.
The lore of this game and overall design are solid and he game could have been so good if done right. The game is much better in my memories as i had to make up and fill some parts of the story in myself
This game would be so much better if it had lock-on targetting. The UFO dog fight can be a little frustrating trying to shot them down while they zip around you.
@charlyrozen LOL not even there are plenty of amazing games that have no multipayer but are still awesome: Batman arkham asylum, batman arkham city, deus ex hr, la noire, saints row the third, god of war 3, infamous 2, alan wake & more you don't NEED a tacked on multiplayer to make a game great
I rented it and it's nice, it's not great, but it's entertaining. Nice menus, nice art design, but the combat actions can be very clunky at times, and the jetpack combat and shooting are very hard to perform. Considering its price nowadays, it's a safe buy.
This might actually appear to be a game that would be better now than 4 years ago. I don't own it (yet), but for 7 bucks on Amazon, and these albeit middling reviews, it could actually prove itself to be a hidden gem. I've always been a fan of flight in games that don't normally have that feature, a primary reason I could actually why I could stand the overworld in Skyward Sword, and this one seems to let you be as creative as you want with the mechanic at points. I'd actually love to pick it up some day just to see if it was worth the money.
You should absolutely pick it up. It's like The Rocketeer, Uncharted, and Gears of War all got together and had a baby. And especially since that baby costs less than 10 bucks, you're not going to regret that purchase.
@jay13thstep Indeed, i thought the camera would be a big problem when i saw some gameplay, but they didnt say anything. I wasnt to thrilled about this game, and this reveiw didnt help :D
Just another one of those games that could have been epic if the proper effort was put in...I personally would love to see Capcom come out a say "yea, we f***ed up in some aspects, but now we know what we need to fix if we ever make a sequel".
Got this yesterday from asda for 7 quid its really not a bad game an the reviewer is right when you do get to the later levels with the jet pack its quite alot of fun! So its well worth the price you can now get it for.
@redbuck82 - Don't listen to the critics, or the reviews. This game is really good and I'm glad I bought it a few days ago, it is very good and deserves the purchase.
i liked the game, but it was very short. i agree with the review, when the jetpack is available this game rocks. I hope they learn from their mistake and make an exellent dark void 2 :P
the two people they had promoting it didn't appear to be too inthralled in the interview-unlike many of the plane dogfighting video games this game just didn't look too interesting
they've realized that the game wont sell for full retail price.. atleast around here in europe.. I got dark void for 15 euros (normally ya gotta pay 60€ or so for a game).. so I'd say that's 15 euros well spent XD
Man, I like Gamespot. They're smart. I mean, yea, why not just go and zoom into that hanger and bust some caps? I like you Gamespot. Thumbs up if you do too.
good thing they made a 2d version of this or i wouldnt be intrested at all. as a nes lover i would much rather seen this come out around 1989 like planed.
1:08 - When will YOUR laxative kick in? I rented it for free from a library, and I felt like the calories I burned picking it up was a waste. The story was God-awful, but the worst part is that you can only understand the story through the LOADING SCREEN MESSAGES. Seriously - the most understandable parts of the story (which are spoilers!) are told ONLY in the loading screens, nowhere else - that which is discussed in-game is so bad it's completely incomprehensible.

agree. Why have multiplayer in every game.
@@nemo9396 better than ign reviews
🙏🏻
It's Uncharted with jetpacks.this game is freaking awesome
I just came across this underrated gem on ps now. My first thought was wow....this a science fiction tinged uncharted with a jetpack. I'm really digging it even now

It's reviews like this that have destroyed good single-players for mediocre and unnecessary multiplayer
I just bought it for the Jet Pack gameplay and man, did it took a while to get there...but it was oh so worth it. I love the fact that your arms and legs flail around as you jet through the skies. Someone tell me the last time you were able to have fun flying on a jetpack in a game? Anyone?
gta san andreas
Enemy Territories, Section 8, and Section 8 Prejudice
Infinite warfare XD
Mdk 2
anyone remember "just cause 3"? best ever!
Personally, when I first played the game, I was young and hot blooded. Perhaps not the best type of gamer in training for a game like this.

Very much enjoyed this game. The PhysX effects are great in this game!

I appreciate how he gives credit where it’s due instead of just trashing the entire game
Its $5 now should i get it?
this game is so cool! My dad bought it in Italy for me as a present for when he came home, and I'd heard of it before. Was a suprise! Don't usually get video games for random buisness trips. I loved it! Infact, im half way through it on the hardest difficulty. One of my favourite games, and a valuable addition to my collection.
Italy?! Ja jajaja, sure, whatever you say br@t!🤦♂️
THIS GAME IS A GREAT GAME! The crazy angles is very innovative! It was a breath of fresh air to me, I had fun
It pains me that this game wasnt that good, i was so looking forward to it
@KoolJayJ Im 30 years old, not a kid. CAN be used for Gears of War as long as you explain yourself first.
Liked the original (on DS), liked demo on PS3, so I got it for xbox :D and whats with the bashing about routine shooters? Did you also bash MW3?
I love that ledge maneuvering!
Looking back at it now in 2024. It's honestly a fun game with no repercussions.
I bought it for 320 microsoft points and I totally have been enjoying it.
I got this used on sale at Gamestop for $2 in spite of the horrible critical reviews. I picked this up for less than £5 recently for PS3, it's a fun game, i can't think of anything really bad to say about it.
This game has really stood the test of time. Though the campaign could be a bit better flushed it still is pretty good. I love this game and it will always be a favorite.
Finaly the captions are working. But how?
Got it for $10 at Gamestop Sunday!
the jetpack game from capcom was dark void not dark sector.
The lore of this game and overall design are solid and he game could have been so good if done right. The game is much better in my memories as i had to make up and fill some parts of the story in myself
I played this as a kid, if it weren’t for the jet pack it would’ve been a “no” for me dawg.
I torrented this, played it once, finished it in a day, went over some levels a few times over then deleted it, virtually no replay value :(
This game had crazy potential. Here's hoping the sequel makes use of it.
@Punk21Hadi He actually said vertical cover system doesn't add that much?
This game would be so much better if it had lock-on targetting. The UFO dog fight can be a little frustrating trying to shot them down while they zip around you.
that "sticky" cover mechanic is also used in uncharted
@YupMyNameIsAllan holyshit! thanks bro!
now the real question...is it worth $10?
@charlyrozen

Batman arkham asylum, batman arkham city, deus ex hr, la noire, saints row the third, god of war 3, infamous 2, alan wake & more you don't NEED a tacked on multiplayer to make a game great
its not worth the $60 price tag but is it worth the $4.99 sale on xbox games on demand?
This game remiinds me of the Rocketeer.
I just got the game for Xbox gold on my 360
Jetpack Joyride on steroids w/ Guns=Dark Void
Bought it on 360 before the store closure.
This game was awsome. It's like Gears of War with a jetpack! Hope they make a sequel (hopefully with a plot that wasn't inspired by David Ike).
@HavenX2 it was 9.99 in blockbuster
I still want a sequel though
I rented it and it's nice, it's not great, but it's entertaining. Nice menus, nice art design, but the combat actions can be very clunky at times, and the jetpack combat and shooting are very hard to perform.
Considering its price nowadays, it's a safe buy.

Is alone in the dark worth 400ms points ?? or dark void
@kangarop download from where? Tell me please!
this game's concept would've worked better in an Iron Man game.
xbox April 2021 monthly free game 👆🏻
do you still get to play when u finish the game
@tippytop7 As a year-end deal, it's now $9.20 on Amazon.com.
I actually really enjoyed this game.
@jay13thstep Indeed, i thought the camera would be a big problem when i saw some gameplay, but they didnt say anything. I wasnt to thrilled about this game, and this reveiw didnt help :D
worth renting for 3days?
Just another one of those games that could have been epic if the proper effort was put in...I personally would love to see Capcom come out a say "yea, we f***ed up in some aspects, but now we know what we need to fix if we ever make a sequel".
I'm still getting it.
Got this yesterday from asda for 7 quid its really not a bad game an the reviewer is right when you do get to the later levels with the jet pack its quite alot of fun! So its well worth the price you can now get it for.
@clemboy500 it was at target brand new
can you still make alot of achievement if you buy it on pc
@jconnors64 yeah i got it today for a fiver you might as well get it while it is that cheap since it might not stay that cheap for too long
It has a horde mode DLC, for replay value.
says that it takes a couple of hours before you can fly, took me about 45 minutes into the game
is it just me or is the subtitle covering like pertty much three quarters of the screen
why is it there?!
I remember that! This game was only $5 in that sale.
WHY ARE BOTH THE TOP COMMENTS IN ALL CAPS
2019 dude
Where did you buy it?
The game is now $2.99 usd on Xbox S/X.
@redbuck82 - Don't listen to the critics, or the reviews.
This game is really good and I'm glad I bought it a few days ago, it is very good and deserves the purchase.
I like the game a lot. Super bad at first but became addictive. Highly recommend. Play for an hour. You'll like it.
Bought this game on Steam, looks and plays great !
1600x900 8xCSAA + FXAA, i7-3630qm + Nvidia GT650M
The game actually looks really fun imo. The landscapes looks incredible. But the critics seem to be making good points. Just a renter I suppose.
Jet Pack looks awesome...yeah I'll get it when its cheaper or just rent it.
i think ill just wait for the sequal when they fix some of the flaws
Marty Melcher This comment aged poorly
Looks good.
But for my money the ultimate jetpac experience in video games is playing as Diddy Kong in DK64.
i liked the game, but it was very short.
i agree with the review, when the jetpack is available this game rocks.
I hope they learn from their mistake and make an exellent dark void 2 :P
yeah now, that was 2 years ago...
I'm renting this game for PS3 currently, going to play it soon.
Hmm to me it seems like you underrate it ALOT in this review.
the two people they had promoting it didn't appear to be too inthralled in the interview-unlike many of the plane dogfighting video games this game just didn't look too interesting
The dollar sign goes before the number.
@tippytop7 its already at $20 last time i checked
they've realized that the game wont sell for full retail price.. atleast around here in europe.. I got dark void for 15 euros (normally ya gotta pay 60€ or so for a game)..
so I'd say that's 15 euros well spent XD
@jeremie14loo I would get it too for 10, not for the 60 they sell it for in other places, its not worth the money
I give a shit for online mode
Man, I like Gamespot. They're smart. I mean, yea, why not just go and zoom into that hanger and bust some caps? I like you Gamespot. Thumbs up if you do too.
good thing they made a 2d version of this or i wouldnt be intrested at all. as a nes lover i would much rather seen this come out around 1989 like planed.
Remember playing the demo some years ago. I had a lot of fun, but I didn't buy it, because of 60 dollars.
Rat🐹
For those who are confused GOW=Gears of War not god of war
Capcom is delisting this title on May 8th. Better scoop up cheap copies before they shoot up in price in the secondary market.
you like blood get darksiders if u like jetpack dogfights go for darkvoid. personally i like army of two 40th day. its your choice.
from the demo this game doesnt fill like a bad game but there's just better games out n coming out
youre right, ill buy it when its about 30 bucks or so
they should make a multiplayer version of this game.
1:08 - When will YOUR laxative kick in?

60$? I got it for 3$
Also, if Brad Pitt really does that movie, it will be the end of time and space as we know it.
Guys I can get a new copy for 10 bucks do or don't?
@Ericlikespi2 I like this game i guess people have there own opinions yet you still call them a troll
I have the demo, the game rocks but there is no multiplayer :(
