Four generations together - how lovely! We picked up our Bella at 8 weeks, which felt too early but was the breeder’s protocol. I do like your approach to keeping the puppies for around 12 weeks or so to enable more learning from the mother. Perhaps our next Cav puppy will come from one of your litters! 😉☺️🐶❤️🇨🇦
It’s lovely to see Bootsie & Boo actively participating with raising Sherlock. Sherlock is very lucky not just to have his mum but also them aswell. So good for socialisation. It’s great to see mum & son enjoying each others’ company and having loads of fun together. Apple is such a wonderful mother and Sherlock is just adorable. ❤
A puppy interacting with other dogs to whom he or she is related is good socialization to be be sure. But it will only go so far. A puppy also needs to interact with other dogs (to whom he or she is not related); dogs of every size, coat type, color, etc. Puppies should also be taken outside the home area (home and yard) to a lot of different places (of course, one must use one's common sense and not take a puppy who has not had all their vaccinations to say, a dog park where the puppy could pick up "undesirables" like worms or diseases). Puppies should be exposed to all sorts of people--persons of color, people with piercings and tattoos, people wearing "strange" clothing (like uniforms, religious garb like turbans and hijabs), people who walk "funny" (with a cane, with a walker, with an unusual gait, in a wheelchair). Puppies should be exposed to a wide variety of places and inanimate objects. That is why, when I get a puppy, I like to get them at 8 weeks of age so that I can begin that socialization process. Not all breeds are like Cavaliers and take strange people/things in stride. If a puppy of some other breeds aren't socialized properly, you can see problem behaviors develop as the puppy gets a little older--including aggression (the puppy sees something that he thinks is "scary"; his first instinct is to get away (flight), but alas, he's on a leash (as he should be) and escape isn't an option so he's left with telling the scary thing to "leave me alone!" in the only way he can--by barking, lunging, growling, showing teeth, and snapping and even biting).
So cute! My tri stayed with the breeder/moma dog an extra 3 weeks. It was a pick-up issue. She was the last of the litter so got one on one time with moma (like Sherlock). She learned so much! I love seeing great grandma Boo be involved ❤
Hi Charlie.. So wonderful to watch Apple and Sherlock playing with each other. Apple was always full of funny energy. Great to see Bootsie and Boo.. We been wondering how Boo is doing. Thanks for everything and have a great one and fantastic week ahead..
Boo has been remarkably stable over the past few months. She is on a combination of 5 medications that all seem to work well together, and we have seen no worsening of her condition at all. In a couple of months, we'll visit the cardiologist to check everything.
