I still think he’s hugely underrated because he’s so famous. He did it in different countries and played with some of the best all time players. He was also in the world player of the year question and was an excellent England captain and player. I’d actually take his career over that of Giggs, Scholes, Keane etc who stayed at one club.
I think that's largely why people underestimate him. because he played with some "great players". People tend to forget that to play and being that good consistently is what makes you a great player.

Its amazing how the ball seems to go straight towards the keeper and in the last couple of seconds bends almost 90 degrees into the path of the striker and just beyond the outstretched reach of the defender. Genius!
