Ever since i found amazon I haven't taken a step inside a gamestop, and it's the best feeling in the world. now that amazon has that 20% off new videogames there really is no point for me to go anywhere else for my physical copy of videogames, I still use steam of course, but thats it, and i never have to have anyone asking me to pre-order, get a warranty, or rewards card ever again. This truly is how videogames were meant to be sold.
Having worked at multiple retail chains, I can safely say a frightening majority of this video can be applied to most of them.

I remember taking in an unopened dead or alive 1 and 2 bundle and they said they'd give me 50 cents for each. This was back when it came out for Xbox.
When I tried to sell games I got for Christmas and didn't want they would take them cause 'it's not opened it could empty' so I opened the game and the guy in the jackass way is like 'oh we can't SEE you opening the game'. So I stepped out the store, opened the games went back in and then they wouldn't take them cause I was 12 years old! Then my mom came and tried and then they're all like 'it's only like 50 cents' even thought it was like 30 dollars new...we left and ended up throwing the games away. Game stop: where 30 yr old guys arct like know it all asses to kids.
Honestly feel like he was trying to do you(or himself) a favor by deterring you from selling the game, the employees know policy is to sell the games for pennies on the dollar and knew he would rip you( a kid) off. I just collect them. I have quite an impressive collection. Have over 300 of them right now, including the special editions and still growing. I sold the older ones for over 250$ and end up getting them again for only 5 bucks at a local book store lol. I also have the Nintendo Power, which worth WAY more than Game Informer. One of the old one worth over 10k!

I remembered when I threw away a Flintstone Toy that I had in my toybox and when I just got bored on a Sunday I watch this random show that talks about expensive toys and end up that toy I threw away worth $740,000 if it in top condition. I ran outside like Usian Bolt and chase after the dumpster truck in my dad car. Took me awhile to convince them by saying that my check is in there. I got the toy, clean it up, and sold it through a TV show for 314k since I got the original box with it. That's when I start doing a collection business. Good times lol.

TBF, Gamestop ain't the only industry in town that makes a killing off buying used and low, and then selling the same used games high. Campus bookstore even put in writing that their goal is to pay as much as they can for your used books, but it always ended up giving you $15 to $24 for your used textbook, but then selling it back again for $38 to $44 (of which new would cost $55 to $65). Some students learned to just sell the books directly to other students for $30, cutting out the middleman.

The examples listed were for textbooks on the cheaper side. The scale is still the same for books that go for hundreds of dollars.
Yeah the textbook industry is pretty shady too. As soon as too many used copies start to circulate and the price drops, they come out with new editions that are barely different just to make more money. And yeah the used bookstores never pay well. I just get all of my books from Amazon and Chegg these days. Most of the time I like to keep the book so resale isn't a problem. If I know I won't need it in the future I can usually find a rental if the book is kinda new, or it's cheap enough not to matter if it's old.
Student college book selling hasn't worked like that in years. The schools circumvented that by issuing new editions of the books annually. I was shocked when i went to community college and they told me i had to buy new books when i tried to use my brothers 'oldnew' books who was in the same class just last year.
I hope they don't forget the 1,000 games for $3 store credit.

Whether people like it or not physical media is dying fast. 99% of all PC games are sold as a download, the video stores are dead and the DVD/CD section at places like Target and Walmart have shrunk to half their original size. With the death of physical media so comes the death of Gamestop.

As a GS employee I can say this is, eh...half right. The bit about firing low level associates for poor numbers is true, I've had to let a few good guys go on account of my new ass hat of a DM. There's also rampant favoritism, my awesome ASM dropped his keys out front one night, despite nothing getting stolen and me not giving a shit, he got fired. Not even a week later a shift leader at another store in our district did the same thing, this fuck shovel had piss poor numbers and awful customer service to boot but didn't get fired because, and I shit you not, he got our DM front row seats at a MLB game one time. The Vegas thing though, eh it's like a paid vacation 'cept you get paid in free stuff, like consoles.

I only go to Gamestop since it's about 15 minutes away from me and if I want a game I go there since it's the fastest way to get it. Though one time I went there and got Dishonored use and it didn't work like I would get half way through the beginning cutscene and the game would get an error message each time. So I took a photo and video of that, went back, told the same person that sold me it what happened and that I have picture and video of it, and then he gave me a new copy without charging me for bringing the old one back or paying for the new one. And he never asked me to show the video or picture of it.

There aren't even any laws in place for copyright protection. First off, that is not capitalism. That is called crappy business practices. Good luck starting up your own company to compete with Gamestop. The corporate licensing from the government{socialism), is ridiculously expensive. That is not including then paying for the facilities and then the actual products you are going to be selling. This is also assuming you will be the only employee working there. If you plan on not being the sole employee, you will need to then factor in paying for labor, which is likely to go up to a mandated $15/hr, which will require you to raise your prices much higher than Gamestop will have too just to make ends meet. Ultimately, it would take a miracle for anyone to do the same thing as them now.

I live in Puerto Rico and I'm happy that GameStop left 1:We have good internet and Amazon ships there products over here and we have Walmart,Best Buy,KMart and Toys R Us and we can buy games there! For example I went to buy Splatoon for the Wii U on GameStop day 1 but they said they only were selling the preorders sooo I went to Walmart and they got my money so almost all my games are from Walmart and Kmart!

one of the reasons i moved to pc. fuck this place. lol steam is millions of times better. only people who go to gayspot are children getting games on their console but their parents wont let them use their credit card. or adults who dont trust buying stuff from online stores such as psn. at lease on steam used games hell even on g2a are cheap new. i got cod black ops 3 for 34 dollars on g2a. shit its 60 dollars at gamestop. probably 55 dollars used. not even worth it, even if a game was released on console only id still use the psn store or xbox live store. i own both consoles in case they try to screw me over. let alone sly cooper and ratchet and clank is coming on ps4 only. no reason for me to get rid of them yet. but in the end pc is more relaxed and fluid when it comes to stuff. its just takes 2 minutes to plug and turn a pc on since theres alot of shit that needs to be plugged in. thats the only down side

If I recall leaving it sealed doesn't help. They won't pay more for new games, and will tell you to open it before selling it to them.
I digitally downloaded once and it's still extremely inconvenient. You can't sell back the games, etc. And it's funny how people think Gamestop is going out of business. Physical is actually way more convenient than digital. And Gamestop even raised its dividend recently.
I bought a game from Gamestop once. Never again. If you do business with this company you will get ripped off, eventually, but more than likely it will happen the very first time you do business with them.
My local gamestop isn't that bad. When I trade in a game like Super Smash Bros for Wii U, I'd get about $35.00 dollars for it.
