Discovered your channel through your comments on Buildzoid’s channel. This is a great video! I bought this card and started to panic after watching his video. This was by far the cheapest 4090 option available in the U.K. at £1730. Though the VRM and PCB are disappointing they should hopefully last for a good few years especially at stock OC’s… I hope. I just can’t justify paying £300-500 more for an ASUS/MSI and they have their own issues apparently such as coil whine. Anyway, thanks, I appreciated your thoroughness. Subbed.
Thanks! To be honest the VRMs are much less important on the 4090 than it was in the 3090 cards. 4090 just pull much less current that even base VRMs like these I have tried to work fine even with shunt mods.

Would you recommend the palit game rock model of this card over the galax SG? These are the two models that are available in my country also a video for which 4090 to buy and which to avoid would be nice

Whats the 2 x 8 pin solder joints on the board at time stamp 11.20 onwards?
Since there are less reviews of Gainward Phantom, mostly being previews or just unboxings, do you think that it is possible that Phantom uses the same PCB as the Palit ( GameRock )?
I ask because in my country Gainward Phantom and Palit GameRock are the most affordable 4080/4090s and I wish I'd go for the Phantom because of asthetics but I don't mind Palit also, unless I took the PCB analysis to the heart.

How is the card for coil whine? Many of the Asus and MSI cards are plagued with it. I have now tried 3xMSI, 2x Asus and 1xZotac. The Zotac had half the amount of coil whine, but the fans...well, fan motors were horrible.
@O!Technology Hey having had enough time to look at the 4090 roster now, which card would you recommend in terms of build quality (pcb, cooler etc..) and performance?
This isn't the first time we've seen 3 slot GPUs becoming norm nowadays. There are a few GPUs such as Gigabyte GTX 680 SOC, high end ASUS DirectCU II cards (GTX 580/680, HD 6970/7970), and Powercolor HD 7970 Red Devil having 3 slot just for either big cooler or intended to be more powerful than vanilla. I would get used 3090s if you're going that route. They're $700 ish and you get 24GB VRAM.
@@OTechnology 24GB VRAM is cool but Gamers don't need that yet, maybe in 3 years when we have 1TB sized games on UE5 with super high resolutions.
Hi can you make a review video on Maxsun rtx 3080 they are selling it for almost 30-40% less then the original price.
I got Palit also and was wondering why it have 4 connectors (enables 600+W) but doesnt go beyond 560W in my case, however I saw its going beyond 3ghz then I noticed thats as much as Strix + FE reach anyway, so maybe that extra 100W is not needed anyway.
one thing to try is to flash bios which I done before but with these new connectors maybe risky, wont do it now and I dont need it anyway, Palit have a good reviews how good it does in OCing hence I choose Palit over other offerings, as Strix too expensive, did also a power draw from wall test with 5800X and found with all USB devices working including Pimax VR headset and max was 709W from wall when both CPU + GPU under stress test and overclocked
edit: btw 2 Strix reviewers managed around 200pts less Port Royal score than yours, I personally didnt try yet on mine as I just did +120mhz to core and 1000+ mhz to memory and called it a day for rest of this 4090 life lol
Yea it doesn’t really need more than 500W in actual games but in benchmarks it helps to increase the scores a little by not throttling at all.
I’ve actually now shunt modded mine and got higher scores lol the VRM held up fine too so there’s that. It can hit 3045mhz sustained without throttling now but for sure consumes more power. You can probably do +1700mhz on the memory no problem on your card but the core offset is almost maxed anyways.
@@OTechnology Yeah other reviewers who did Palit mentioned it have highest memory OC stability....
Damn you already went and did shunt mode, if I was you I would have at least tried different bios flashing first like Strix or FE bios 🤣, but you took the higher risk one, I won't take any risk on mine, way too expensive to do it, I did on 3080 bios flashing many times but not this lol

3x8 pin Gamerock Omniblack has the same board and in this case 16 phases is more than enough for sure. Running my unit at 2850 Mhz @ 985 mV and 400W. I spent 1800$ on it and feel sorry for those who paid 700$ more from the last saving for Strix or Suprim.
I know right? Mine arrived yesterday, the fact that some cards are still near or well over 2k is absurd!

Yes there seems to be places to solder on 8-pin connectors.
Do you think it’s safe to flash the gamerock oc bios onto the none oc model? Is the hardware the same just different bios between the 2 models?

That VRM power phase cost cutting will make me stay away from the Gamerock this gen. Only 16 phases? the others have a minimum of 20. Why Palit did this is strange. They have one of the best VRMs with the 30-series
I know I was quite dissatisfied too. Their 30 series had pretty great VRMs.

What is LN2?
I got it in port royal at 25.528 and oc 26.157 but it scores less by 1k in timespy extreme.. its wierd.. im runing the ryzen 7950x ddr5 6000, hero 670e..
I updated the bios on the Gamerock and its actually slower now, I wish I could put the old bios back !!!

I got the old bios from tech power up and now im getting 19.757 so i`m happy again, anyway thanks for the video as you got me to upgrade to the Gamerock !
I have the phantom 4090 its exactly the same just different cooler shroud, all the people that go on about how bad it’s vrm ect is need to realise these cards in 99% of cases beat the strix and other such models, as for cooling it’s just as good as the strix
I found the English version 😅.
The price and amount of power cables to run it is a massive turn off

Anyone had a problem with artefacts with this card? Both the whole computer with this card couple weeks ago and after 1.5-2h of playing Assetto Corsa on triple full hd screen there are artefacts on one of the monitors 😢 I install new drivers and seem to be ok but tbh I don’t really believe it will solve the problem. Anyone can share an advice or experiences?
If an update solve the problem, thats it, otherwise, artifact can be specific game problem.

@@notchipotle it will be never available in my Country because of electronic products import ban. I should go to Singapore to buy the RTX 4090 but Flight ticket is cost alone over 1000 dollars so buying RTX 4090 is not worth it at all

Palit produces cards with a very weak power section and only when they change It, I will buy a card From them,if they do not start cards well,they do not want take this scrap.Yes it's Jus Asus strix kfa 2 hof can msi suprime x.
I agree the VRM is very disappointing. Then again in this gen it is not nearly as important as in the 30 series. But still I would recommend the other cards over this.

For 500W bios it's enough, even with 600w bios, the VRM itself enough, buildzoids just speak to much.. as always...
