Nice review bro, finally someone showed the lights in a working scenario.
I bought them by mistake, thinking they were rechargeable but I'll keep them, I just ordered a pack of rechargeable 4D batteries.

Good call with the rechargeable batteries. Yeah that’s the downfall. I feel like they’re good for emergencies but going through D batteries too often is pricey.

I just picked one up from the Goodwill for $5. Couldn't be happier. They should have made it rechargeable, but 240 hours on low is a win in an outage.

I got mine about the same time (~1 year ago), also at Costco. One of them now doesn't turn on at all. I tried 4 fresh "D" batteries, and still nothing. So far as I can tell, the only part that disengages is the bottom (where the batteries are installed). So, if the bulb burned out, how would I know? And how would I replace it (assuming that's even possible)?
I can't find a manual for this thing. The only results from Google are for a 1000 lumen Duracell flashlight.

I kind of hate to ask but I really need to know something about these and I can't find the info anywhere (so far). I know this would cost you a set of batteries but could you do a runtime test on one of these lanterns?
The reason I ask is that I bought the newer version of this at Costco. The new one is almost the same except it is 1500 lumens max and has a built in Lithium rechargeable battery. However, I always do runtime experiments on everything I buy and I found that even when I charge the battery full, if I turn the lantern on high and leave it there, after about 20-30 minutes, it gets noticeably dimmer. I was very pleased with the initial brightness on high, as it would light up my entire bedroom almost as bright as my overhead light does. However, I did buy it for emergency backup lighting and I need to know what's going on with it.
At first I thought this was because of a faulty battery but this version has an option to use D cell batteries or a charging cable for power as well. It still does it with new D cell batteries. So I'm thinking it must be that the lantern can only output it's full brightness for a certain amount of time and then needs to ramp down due to heat. But I'm not sure. The manual doesn't say. I don't want to return it if this is normal. Does anyone know?

Same here. I bought the ones from a few years ago and it wouldn't stay lit after 5 seconds...returned got a new one plus new batteries.. same deal. Now I have this updated version and looks like the same thing happening. So I'm going to try to call the company itself.
