i loved the fact that it had dark mode more than 10 years ago and that you could choose a accent color that would personalize the entire OS, i wish modern iOS and Android would do that too
The more I've seen Windows Phone recently, the more I realize Windows Phone was the 3rd party between Android and iOS we all needed. I wish it had stayed around longer!
You can really see the pre-iPhone UI of Windows Mobile 6, and then the post-iPhone UI of Windows Mobile 6.5. I remember 6.5 having a nice Zune-like home screen and a cool but weird Start menu, but it was just lipstick on a pig. Aside from the HTC HD2 which was actually good, WM 6.5 devices were utter crap in 2009/2010, resistive touch on most of them, a lot had third party UIs on them to hide the ancient Windows Mobile underpinnings like HTC TouchFlow (which became HTC Sense on Android). I think there was a prototype version of Windows Mobile 7 which planned on continuing the lineage of WM 6.5 but they scrapped it as it just wasn't going to be competitive. Windows Phone 7 couldn't have come soon enough, and if it had come out in 2009 instead of 6.5 it might have actually had a chance at success. By late 2010 the market was already conceded to iOS and Android, and I get that I sound like a Monday morning quarterback using hindsight, but I remember even then thinking it even though I used Windows Phone for many years all the way through Windows 10 before I went to Android in 2016 and eventually back to iOS in 2018, as Windows 10 Mobile was just so lackluster even on the Lumia 950. It was just too late unfortunately as I still think Windows Phone 7 has aged really well in some areas, like the hubs for media and social were a brilliant idea, and the browser UI being on the bottom. Found it particularly funny when people praised Apple for giving Safari the UI on the bottom in iOS 15 yet I had it on my Windows Phone a decade prior.
Actually, these are the Comparisons between Windows Mobile and Windows Desktop (PC) : - Pocket PC 2000 (Windows CE 3.0) : Based on Windows 2000 - Pocket PC 2002 (Windows CE 3.0) : Based on Windows XP - Windows Mobile 2003 (Windows CE 4.0) : Based on Windows XP - Windows Mobile 5 (CE 5.0) : Similar with Windows Longhorn [2005] - Windows Mobile 6 (CE 5.2) : Between Longhorn and Vista [2007] - Windows Mobile 6.1 (CE 5.2.xxxx) : Based on Windows Vista [2008] - Windows Mobile 6.5 (CE 5.2.xxxx) : Based on Windows 7 [2009] - Windows Phone 7 : Based on Windows 8 [2010] - Windows Phone 8.x : Based on Windows 8/8.1 [2012-2013] - Windows 10 Mobile : Based on Windows 10 (Desktop/PC) [2015-2017]

Question : If Android based on Java and Kotlin, iOS based on Swift, so What Programming Language to make/build an Apps in Windows Phone and Blackberry OS?
Windows Phone 7 used Silverlight for it's APIs, which was a port of Windows Presentation Foundation to the web, itself being an evolution of .NET. Windows Phone 8 used WinRT for it's APIs, or at least a subset of it, which was very similar to the APIs used for Windows 8's Metro apps. WinRT was kind of a fork of .NET, similar but not quite the same thing. Windows 10 Mobile of course used the Universal Windows Platform for it's APIs, which were an evolution of WinRT and were the same as the Desktop version of Windows, hence the name. These still survive today, but are deprecated as of Windows 11 in favor of Microsoft's current offerings. All are loosely based off of .NET though.
Maybe because I'm Android user, seeing UI of Windows for Mobile Phone is kinda not as user friendly as Android 😅😅. While now I feel like this OS (Especially newer version like Windows Phone 8) is actually cool and still like Android. I can say this after watching Nobel's video about it
No, 10X was never intended for phones, it was for the Surface Neo and similar foldables. Windows 10X is more a successor to Windows RT tbh, shares more in common with that than it does Windows Phone.
Quando eu vejo tudo isso eu penso:Por que a Microssoft só não colocou a barra de tarefas na parte de baixo da tela do celular e o papel de parede do windows xp no fundo, gente?
Windows Phone 10 became superior to both iOS and Android in almost every area. What it lacked was apps. I can't help but feel that had Microsoft not given up on it so quickly, that it would have eventually surpassed both Android and iOS, which have become a bit stale in recent years.
Its crazy that microsoft wasnt satisfied with making a pathetic os for pc they also wanted to replace android aka linux , good thing linux is also on pc and that it improves so much i can finally play games without worrying about someone looking at me through the webcame😅
well you can't deny it's compatibility with a lot of stuff and backwards compatibility with old stuff too though 😏.... well I can't deny the fact that UI inconsistencies and duplicate apps, bloatware and telemetry thingy too tough... * Sigh *... what am I even defending? Also, good luck with that privacy paranoia on an android phone (with gms lol) >;)

The jump from 6.1 to 6.5 looks massive, the same as from 6.5 to 7
