I love those deatramentis inks. A lot of urban sketchers use these, when they are outside drawing and if it rains their art isn’t ruined. You are like me, I jump all in on what I like. Lol
I appreciate when you describe the ink’s wetness and flow because I’m discovering I really prefer wetter ink! But not all places describe the flow, so thank you! So very helpful❤
@SunsetBoughTarot Exactly! I am new to the hobby so I'm experimenting, and most of the time I can't tell if it's the pen, the nib, or the ink I don't like or like.
One thing that really helps with dry inks if you love their color is Vanness White Lightening. It is an ink additive used to make inks wetter. A little bit goes a long way. Also, if you like Tsutsuji, Kire Same, or Kosumosu, they have now been discontinued. They are still available, with Tsutsuji probably the hardest to find.
Yup, I’m glad I have a bottle of Kosumosu…I can live without the other two but I love Kosumosu! 🩷 I have some White Lightning and am still figuring out exactly the proper balance with it…my first try I literally just dipped the needle tip of a blunt syringe in it and it was still too much for the amount of ink in my converter so I need to experiment a bit more 😆
One of the greatest things about De Atramentis Document inks is that you can mix them together and create new colors. I do not recommend using too much white ink. Maybe it's the sample I got but mine was incredibly thick!!! But it's super fun to play with it and mixing colors. The consistency of the inks evolved great on the mixed color.
Beautiful! Given that you like Helianthus, I can’t help thinking you’d love Sailor Shikiori Kin-Mokusei. It’s a bit more orange, but the orange you get when you mix pink and yellow, rather than red and yellow. It’s pretty wet and has a slight silver sheen
Thank you for the great videos. Got to see some new (for me) colours and the comments on flow and coverage of inks are very much appreciated. You seem to like full colors that flow well so I'd recommend Monteverde and Private Reserve in that regard with KWZ having some pretty awesome ones too 🙂
Awesome recommendations, thanks! I definitely have a few Monteverde inks on my “to-try” list because they sound like they’d be up my alley…I’ll check out Private Reserve and KWZ too!
How did I not know this?!? I guess I've been living under a rock because I had no idea that you were into fountain pens. Fountain pens "found" my generation when Sheaffer first came out with the Skrip Cartidge pen. I've been in love ever since. Loved your video, Sarah, and I was surprised when you said "last one" - time flew! So a great job. I have to agree with you about Herbin inks - other than Vert de Gris, I've had nothing but trouble with them, although I do drop a few mls. of Perle Noire into inks that are too brightly colored for me. The black tones them down without changing the color; it just dims the brightness and adds a bit of "grayness". A brand that I don't remember seeing and one that is a favorite of mine is Birmingham Inks. The ones I've tried are fairly wet, although well-behaved. Hope you're doing well. All the best, Donna
Yay!!! 💖💖💖💖 I’ve been into fountain pens for coming up on two years but I’ve really only done a couple videos about it just because I know most people are here for the tarot content…so glad to find more TarotTube fountain pen fans!! Glad I’m not the only one who’s had trouble with Herbin inks. I’d say at this point a solid 75% of my “inks to try” wishlist is BPC inks! I’ve heard nothing but good things and the colors look gorgeous…it’s just so hard to get samples unless you have friends to swap with and I hate buying bottles without trying them first 😢. I really hope they start offering samples or at least start selling through some retailers who do!
Oooh this came at such a good time! I use a colodex card system for swatching and put it on a rolodex, but I'd wanted to figure out something for chronological keeping track of what I actually have inked at any given time, because with samples I forget sometimes! Then, if it turns out I'm enamored with the ink and I've used up the entire sample, I forget what it was. 🤣 A lined notebook just like you've got there will work perfectly and I bet I've already got one. ...now onto the ink watching 👀
Yep I’ve found that I have to keep track of what’s in all my pens or I will 100% forget 🤣 and I like having it tracked in chronological order as well as by ink name. The colodex systems are very cool…I ended up with a binder just because the ink I spilled was right in the spine of my notebook so I was able to cut out and keep most of the paper from it…so it’s a little makeshift but at least allowed me to hang on to all that nice Hobonichi paper!
Glad to know I’m not the only one who thinks Chocolate Brown is a bit odd-it’s so different from the consistency of basically every other Diamine ink I’ve ever tried!
Have you tried to color mix any of your inks? I get a little crazy sometimes and if I don’t like the color, it doesn’t get used. To use it up I try to figure out a way to adjust it so I will use it. I have several I don’t like and have thought about this…..🧐🤔
The autumn leaves color may be based on the type of tree in your area. In Ohio there are trees that turn that shade of bright red in the fall and its really stunning standing out against all the orange and gold/yellow leaves. I’m enjoying watching the swatch video while doing work. 😊
The circles, some of them with the shimmer, look like little paintings of planets. I can see how inks and nibs can be a creative person's rabbit hole. I can imagine writing childrens stories and drawing with these inks. Thank you so much for sharing. In the UK there are not as many ink producers, nor do they sell sample pots of their colours. Do you match up and ink with a tarot/oracle deck?? If you do, is the colour and/or the ink feel? Take care, stay hydrated. 🎉
Little paintings of planets, I love that!! I really do enjoy swatching, it’s so soothing to see the pretty colors go down on paper. I have never matched up pens and inks with tarot or oracle decks but now that you’ve suggested it I am considering it! 😆💖💖💖
I love reds 🥰. The nib I used for swatches is a Speedball type B (round) nib in a Tachikawa TP-25 nib holder…both very inexpensive! For writing I used a Pilot Iro-utsushi dip pen with a medium nib. 😊
You have a lot of fantastic inks. Vanness sells white lightening that will help with those dry inks. Just use the absolute smallest amount humanly possible. More and likely I will rewatch this video and add inks to my wish list. 😄
Thank you so much!! You know what, I bought some White Lightning a while ago and put it in a drawer and totally forgot I had it until you made this comment 🤦♀️ I’m going to try it out with some of those dry inks!!
Diamine polar glow…I may or may not have just purchased that and quite a few other samples of some inks you swatched, lol. Can’t help it, or myself, lol.
OMG Unicorn Blood 😍 Hmmm stinky ink? No thank you 😅 Love the peacock blue color of the Ku-Jaku. Fuyu-gaki has legit become a fast fave of the samples you gave me! Oooh Diamine Meadow 😍 Borahae 💜Okay, this was legit visual ASMR, and I've saved this to my FP playlist for future reference 📝

So glad you found it helpful!! 💖💖💖 It’s such a bummer when you find a beautiful color and then put it in a pen and you don’t like how it writes…

I think most of us like wetter inks because they flow better in fountain pens, who in the lord likes super dry inks? 😭

Oooo awesome recommendation, thanks! I’m always on the lookout for legible oranges and yellows. 😊💖
I am loving Great Southern Ocean; I can see myself ending up with a bottle. SO many wonderful inks! 😍
Yay I’m so glad you’re liking that one! It’s a fave of mine for sure!

Great video! Lots of inspiration for my Vanness shopping cart. Thanks for all of the great information.
Yay so glad you got some good information out of it! 💖

Agree about Diamine Chocolate Brown it is odd for a Diamine ink, very dry. This is a great idea, now I need to do this. 😊

Totally needed this video today! Yay! ❤

Ahhh good point! Now that you mention it, I guess Momiji isn’t too far off from the color of a Japanese maple 😆 So glad you enjoyed the video! 💖

What a great video-love seeing so many different REDS! What nib and holder do you use. Love how it puts down a lot of ink in your swatches!
I love reds 🥰. The nib I used for swatches is a Speedball type B (round) nib in a Tachikawa TP-25 nib holder…both very inexpensive! For writing I used a Pilot Iro-utsushi dip pen with a medium nib. 😊

@@SunsetBoughTarot I put a tip of a syringe in the white lightning and let the excess drop off and put the syringe in just the converter of ink.
@@Adventuresover40 👍👍👍 awesome, that is exactly what I will try…thank you so much for the tip!! 💖
You did a great job. I have added inks to my Vannes order. Rachelle in Seattle
Thank you so much!! Glad you found some that looked interesting 😊💖
Diamine polar glow…I may or may not have just purchased that and quite a few other samples of some inks you swatched, lol. Can’t help it, or myself, lol.
Ooo I hope you like Polar Glow! It’s really beautiful and pretty well behaved for a sheening ink in my opinion! 💖
