Going from a modified k24 si, owning a turbo supra, and now having a 2023 hrv sport AND an exl I can tell you the car is 100% worth it. It's basically an AWD civic with tons of cargo space. That being said it has a ton of reliability and high aftermarket availability as far as engine mods go. It's a k20, if you know what that is I don't have to explain why it's a great engine. I've been 45mph whipping through the muddy pine barrans and climbed hills in the Poconos. Made a 4 and a half hour road trip on half a tank of gas ($30-40 to fill). Has a snow mode and honeslty with the k20 matched to the cvt and awd it picks up as quick or even quicker I'd say than a fully nodded NA k24 with lightweight flywheel, solid mounts and all. It's just so smooth you don't even realize you picked up that fast. With the awd you're basically floating. You can also customize them from your order. I have factory aftermarket body pieces on mine. You're expecting an Audi sq5 for civic prices. It's amazing for what it is not to mention base starts at like $24k.
You said it best my friend. You can’t really compare the HR-V to other cars because it’s in a class of its own. And I like how they said it’s the slowest car with the Kia soul and the Volvo, but it’s literally a civic😂 I don’t feel any slower in my HR-V than I did in my civic, just the gas mileage isn’t as good which makes sense with a bigger body and AWD
I loved this review. Same reaction I had when I test drove one last month. I think Honda is missing out on a gold mine with the HRV. Offer the 185 hp motor from the Civic and offer the Sport Blacked out wheels on the EXL! The salesman said they use the 158hp motor to improve gas mileage. I told him the gas mileage blows!! The CRV gets better mileage or the Subaru Crosstrek Sport...same price, better gas mileage and 30 more hp, Kia Seltos, Jeep Compass... To name a few are better values.
The video I needed 😭 thank you for your honesty. HRVs are nice but the loud sound just bothers me so much when I test drove. Also the hp..Honda needs to give HRVs more love not just exterior/interior designs.
The gas is pretty normal, a fill up from 2 dots is 25$, I love ❤️ my hrv, I did swap out the wheels and put the sport wheels on my exl and it looks beautiful with the wheels. I did have to come out of pocket $2,500 for the wheels but worth every penny in style.
@@jasonyancy6332 I love mine too, If I wanna go fast I have a civic touring. The HRV is for driving my son to school, grocery shopping and driving to work in the Alberta winter. I was just T boned ( not my fault ) and had my 2017 civic destroyed, I couldn't be happier with this as my replacement. This vehicle will last forever as well, and Honda resale value right now is incredible. My settlement for my written off civic was proof to that.
i can get passed the noise, but the weak power train seems to be a deal breaker for me. if it was the same as the cx-30 then it wouldn't hesitate to get an hrv
dont think you can risk owning a hyundai, as most of them have been advised by company to park outside garage as they tend to blow up. i would prefer owning a honda or a toyota instead.
The EXL has a sport mode that gives it plenty of power. The HR-V is more of an economy vehicle as a design. It drives incredibly well and has tons of excellent features. That is what engineers designed and delivered. Just my opinion, I bought this exact model and color on Saturday, and I couldn't be happier with the deal I got.
And that's our issue with it. The Civic is much better for the same price and just as practical. And if you need an SUV there are many competitors that are better at simply being an appliance vehicle.
There are quite a few cars that you can get for that money or less which are 100 time better than this ugly duckling!! Honda didn't get it right with this one, particularly in the engine department.
@@APOSTLESDOCTRINEPHOENIX There are 4 that come to mind. Corolla cross, Mazda CX30, VW Taos, Kia Seltos. Much better vehicle with more responsive engines that HR-V.
@@simons5193........possibly not the most responsive, however Honda design engines are generally very reliable and often top the longetivity and reliability surveys. The fit and finish is excellent although the head unit on the 2019/2021/2023 dependent on market is rather average although Honda offers an aftermarket upgrade apparently again in some markets. Honda has plants for North American and UK production in Celaya Mexico, right hand drive models for Australia, New Zealand are assembled in Thailand and more recently Japan. Argentina and Brazil also assemble CRV and Donfeng Honda in China for the Chinese market. All have variations in colour, trim and accessory/ fitment dependant on local dealer choices so this North American review may not be pertinent in all markets. My partners' Honda Australia, supplied HRV FWD 2022 is off the Thai assembly line and the panel fit and paint quality is excellent as is the interior. As a retired motor engineer I chose the Honda CRV for my 72 year old wife due to a very reliable engine design, chain driven, variable cam non turbo 1800cc, engine that has been around a while with few problems. An excellent interior and rear space with the "magic seating" ( sadly now unavailable in the new model) good comfortable seating and vehicle accessibility. For an older driver the vehicle is more than ample in performance, economy and the variable auto box is calibrated well for smooth operation and has proved quite durable compared with some competitive models. If you're a 'boy or girl racer' look for a Lancer or WRX replacement or at maybe a Kia Seltos turbo 1.5 liter or Mitsibishi Cross Eclipse engine, this probably isn't for you, however few of these IMHO will be as reliable long term. However the Honda 1800cc engine well serviced and maintained 300,000 klms should be attained with little trouble. Jus sayin'

What do you think of the all-new Honda HR-V? Also fun fact: this was the first review Jessie and I filmed all the way back in January!

Great review guys! Lucky to have snow, too! Nice touch! 👍🏻
Lucky? I don’t know about that one 😂
Thanks a lot! But we'd gladly swap our winters for more summer haha
Has alot of Porsche truck body curves.. I have a V6 tsx and this new HRV might be my dad mobile lol
I've been telling my friends it looks similar, but they think I am crazy.

Glad to see we are not the only ones, ha! The HR-V just isn't competitive with the rest of the market.
I love my 2023 Honda H-RV!!!!!!
That's awesome to hear, we're glad your liking your new HR-V!
How's the city gas mileage with the awd?

Im sure the weather doesn’t ask for an excuse 😂
It could be a little more considerate of our filming schedule though 😂
beeeeeeautiful review!
Thanks a lot!

It's a one-two punch that combined with the price, just makes the HR-V a hard sell unfortunately.
Looks great.
This is a commuter car it really shines in heavy traffic
Nailed it!! Beluga whale.4 Runner, Blue whale,smiling 🐋 😂😂😂
The zrv in Australia has either a 1.5 turbo or hybrid versions instead of this old school 2 litre. Much better performance than this one.
Ship one over for us to test 😂😂
That sounds a lot more bearable!
I would give it 10 🎉
You can get a tucson hybrid for $2K more
Yep, that's where it gets difficult to recommend the HR-V

Great car
The ZR-V has hybrid and 1.5 turbo power trains and it has more features than our HR-V .
Maybe we can test it next time one of us is in Europe 👍🏻
agree that an LX would make more sense. Higher trims are not worth it.
I dont understand why knot put a engine with more horse power. Honda you need to be ashamed of yourself.

It’s just a basic car that will keep you safe. Basic civic might out shine this extremely basic car.
And that's our issue with it. The Civic is much better for the same price and just as practical. And if you need an SUV there are many competitors that are better at simply being an appliance vehicle.
It is a civic. It's an awd k20 crossover.

Which do recommend?

agree its cheap and overpriced. But its far better than other options like Soul, Venue, Kicks, Corolla cross etc. They are no match.
