I really liked the fact that the elder dude just walked by, watched, gave hints and was spotting him for quite a while. The climbing community is just awsome.
He was super nice and helpful, and his beta was key. He even offered to let me borrow his crash pad for the next session, which I gladly took him up on the day I sent.
Maan! When he gets it, it looks so obvious and natural but when he was struggling with the move I was questioning his approach. Rock climbing do be like that tho.
I never did rock climbing even tho I followed the community for some years am always inspired, idk any spots in my country but as soon as i move out I'll definitely give it a shot, thank you for the amazing work!
Thanks! I know some people are able to avoid the press mantel move by using a hold out left above the lip, but I heard that hold wasn't discovered under the moss/lichen until much later. So I would guess Ron Kauk did the press mantel but not sure...
Oh haha I wasn’t sure if you were asking what the climbing was like above the mantle because there’s another 20 feet or so of slab to top out. I’m sure my shoulder was pretty tired after trying so many times but I don’t remember any pain or soreness.
@@Pat_11131 If you continue straight up it's pretty thin and committing from what I've been told. I went left which was easy and secure despite some moss and pine needles.
Sickk, love to see how it looks impossible at first then smooth once you optimize the move. That's what climbing is all about.

I'm pretty sure that's Tom Herbert (local climbing legend) lol.
Once he figured out it’s not all about power and pushing with your arms but more of a tweak in the technique in the hips, he had it.
Thanks for sharing! This is a dream climb for me, but I am pretty intimidated by the mantel. It was great to see your progression. Nice work! 🔥
That was beautiful, watching that route fall to you!

The guy knows how to fall. Nice job.

Am I the only one encouraging this guy out loud??

You knew when they started from the beginning, he would get it.

Thanks!
Hell yeah
Perfect!
Nice!!
Great job!
Didn't Ron Kauk use some intermediate hold instead of doing the mantle on this problem?

Looks quite impossible. Amazing grit.

Not B.G. but that’s a high complement!
@@toddhambone pretty sure he meant the guy in the blue t shirt giving you a spot around the 1 minute mark?
Ah yeah that guy does look like him a little. I remember he hung around for a bit and I don't think he was BG, but could be wrong.
great vudei
That's a V5 at my gym
Insane!!! How’s the shoulder after that mantle?
Do you mean the "shoulder" of the boulder above the mantle, or my shoulder?
@@toddhambone your shoulder. I’m sure the Boulder was hurting too though

@@toddhambone well now I’m curious about the slab above the mantle lol. was it sketchy?
