Set your master bus glue compressor to 30ms attack, .1ms release, ratio of 4:1. Standard settings for a tight punchy mix with that SSL glue. This is a VCA style compressor so the knee is linked to the ratio. If the music follows a grid set the release to .1 if it is live set it to auto. Your mix will sound much better 💯

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Your tutorials are clean, clear and concise without jargon or unnecessary extras. There are far too many tutorials or 'advice' videos on here that are ego-centric and make new producers feel inadequate and unconfident. The very fact that you are sharing ideas that are solely based on Ableton stock plug-ins and also share the sample pack with which you made these amazing songs reflects the sort of artist you are. Willing to share the gift of making extraordinary music, but in a way that is so very easy to understand and apply. I have benefited massively from your videos and will continue to do so in the future. Eternal gratitude for what you are doing Yan.

I love how all your midi tracks start with a full on reverb enabled. I wonder if you actually leave it on like that when coming up with ideas. It does immediately showcase how the sound affects the reverb, I should try that :) I always find it difficult to apply the appropriate reverb, so much possibilities, and I never know which sounds 'better'.

Intetesting with the pitched down hihat in the end of the pattern. Didn't realise that's how you make that kind of sound. So the hat obviously has to be a noise based one. And I guess that you can get a similar sound with claps. Pitched down acoustic hats/cymbals can also give something I know. I tend to pitch down samples a lot to get a more lofi sort of sound. But hadn't thought of using it as a variation for drum sounds. Now I'm suddenly inspired 🤔

Interesting. I've never tried four on-the-floor kicks in my Dub techno tracks. Usually half time 140-142 bpm. It's a lot more languid and has a lot of space. I like the way you carve out a sonic place for each element. I just lay everything out quickly to get the patterns, grooves and then work out eq and sonic space. Thanks for the tutorial. More!
