It’s nice seeing a review from a VJ perspective - thanks! I’d like to see their next model in this form factor have only 2 hdmi / sdi inputs (sdi would cover a wider user base + cables can be ran further + BNC connectors can take a beating vs HDMI), 4K support, and of course a nice built-in display screen for parameter selection, snd maybe Bluetooth for running some wireless control. But hell, as many VJs that moved from analog to digital know, this product is damn near perfect! :)
great review. personally I like the V-1SDI better, because it has an internal video scaler, SDI + HDMI inputs, a few more effects and the interface is a bit more stylish with the blue stripes. What I really think both are lacking for VJ jam sessions or facade projection jams is a resolution of 1920x1200 (WUXGA), because most professional projectors run in that resolution. Aside of this its a great, tiny and affordable device!
thanks for your comment, I personally have no interest in SDI inputs, since they are mainly for professional video camcorders, or for sending long signals over SDI. You are right about V-1HD doesn't support 1920x1200, it can be annoying, the new XS-1HD looks promising with 4 outputs, and same form factor
Thank you very much for this review! I'm a fan of your work btw. I am looking for an affordable way to mix between 2 VJ setups, so this unit and the Roland V-02HD popped up on my radar. The price is similar but the additional inputs couldn't hurt I suppose. It's really a bummer about flying in the dark with the FX though.
We have audio coming in via RCA from our mixer. Its coming into our Roland V-1HD. When audio comes out of the Roland V-1HD, does it come out of HMDI? Or when you come in with RCA, is the only audio out option RCA (and not HMDI). We really want HDMI out for audio because the our is going into our YOLOLIV YoloBox.
please help! im using this switcher and im running the output into my mac. i want to record a video podcast so i can later upload to our schools website. cant get the output to pop up in adobe premiere.
HELLO i tried everything to connect Gopro Hero 5 black camera's from the camera's Hdmi output directly into de VH-1Hd but the only output signal i get is a small video stroke in the left top corner ...the rest of the outputscreen is black.. If i use an older Gopro Hero 4 and do the same the output is normal....can someone tell me what is gong wrong?
Thanks for the reaction. I solved the problem. And its a strange one. THE OUTPUT OF THE GOPRO IS SET TO THE STANDARD NTSC and in Europe we use PAl. THE ONLY WAY TO CHANGE THIS IS VIA THE GO PRO APP. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO CHANGE NTSC TO PAL ON THE GPOPRO ITSELF......PFFFF

I agree. I hope they do a payable 4K firmware update and 10bit color.

try checking your output resolution of your GoPro 5, maybe it's sending 4k instead of HD
