Fun fact, the last 7 years there have been a summer event organized called "The most Wuthering Heights day ever". People (mostly women) get together and dance to this song all over the world. There are videos where several hundred people dances (Melbourne Australia 2016 for example). There are also videos where just a few people, or even one, try to do the dance.

Musically I've heard a lot by Kate and what I Hear I don't always like but she doesn't plagiarize other performers or singers, she is herself and is always interesting... This song is probably her most famous but never would I give to someone as a first listen, it's a little too out there and divisive... I remember hearing this when released and has a teen I hated it ... My suggestions... I guess that calling her the female David Bowie is spot on. Propably the most talented female artist to come out of England, and among the top 10 if we include the men too.
When this was released in 1978, the world changed just a little bit. Coming out at the height of the British New Wave it sounded like nothing else and Kate Bush quickly established herself as the most innovative and successful female singer of her generation. Well, I was a fantasy obsessed adolescent, and a fey musical enchantress was exactly what I was looking for. But there was a lot more to her than that, and she was always fearless when it came to her songwriting and choice of subject matter. If you like her enough to get away from the obvious hits most will recommend, you will be well rewarded on your journey.
She remained the biggest selling female artist in Britain until 2003 when Katie Melua knocked her off the throne - Another one of my favourite artists.

She did do the choreography. I tend to agree with those who would say she's a genius but she can be an acquired taste. I don't like all her stuff but the songs I like - I love. Great voice for sure. Two other singles you may like - "Hounds of Love" and "Runnin Up That Hill" - both I think are universally liked by fans. Check out some new Fiona Apple from "Fetch the Bolt Cutters" ( a modern masterpiece) - If you want to hear something different with some great lyrics.
I don't like all her songs either but I can say the same thing for every single artist I have the highest regards. As far as being a genius I think she's a genius in originality. She did something that no artist in her genre would even attempt to do. I often wonder if she did it b/c of her young age. The great thing about being young, your so moved by high emotions and less inhibitions you just do it. Growing up I only listened to straight rock n roll but upon hearing Bush she broke the mold. It was then I began to appreciate other types of music. I guess in that regard she is a kinda genius.

Actually she recorded it closer to 17. David Gilmour discovered her around 14 or 15 and they recorded most of the album at his own studio and the record company didn't know how to produce it, so it basically sat on a shelf for a year or.2 before Gilmour had his own engineer work on the songs before finally releasing it when Kate was 19

She wrote the song whilst still at school as part of an English assignment. The teacher didn't believe she'd written it, it was too good. There's not a duff track on the whole of, The Kick Inside (first album).
This is quite simply one of the most gorgeous songs ever written. She was a trained dancer and was trained by a ballerina or a classical dancer. I remember this song way back when I was about 8 yrs old in the early 80s. Her compositions are light yrs more advanced than anything you hear today. She is a genius really.
Kate Bush is the only artist who could have written songs about Wuthering Heights and Wilhelm Reich and have them both be hits. Incredibly talented and intelligent. No one else like her. And yes, she did her own choreography. :-)
My favourite novel when I was a teen. I love to sing this. Heathcliff was the dark handsome heartthrob we all fell in love with…. People all around the world meet yearly, dressed in red and dance in fields to this song Wuthering Heights.
I remember being 10 years old and hearing this for the first time in 1978. Everybody at school thought she was weird and possibly a witch (in that Scottish kids at school sort of way), and the class was divided on whether they liked her or not. I thought she was (and still is) amazing. I've loved this song ever since. It has a magical & quite haunting feel to it. I never tire of hearing it. The album the song Wuthering Heights is taken from 'The Kick Inside' is excellent too. She was barely 19 when she recorded it and it's such an intriguing and mature album. So much talent. Anyway, cheers for giving this a listen.

My partner can't stand her, he calls her airy arty fairy and ultra pretentious and listening to her gives him a headache. He has a point. However, I think she's amazing, a genius, second only to Joni Mitchell as a singer/songwriter. The Hounds Of Love is a masterpiece album. We agree to disagree! x
Wuthering Heights is a GREAT read for anyone into Gothic fiction. Dark, demented, and completely unique in both its characters and atmosphere. It's my personal favourite.

Definitely, her best track IMHO. Hollywood star Donald Sutherland stars with her. She had envisaged him playing the role and found out from a mutual friend's hairdresser where he was staying whilst on a visit to the UK and went to his hotel room and knocked on his door. She couldn't get a work permit for him at short notice so he offered to appear for free. Always loved him ! I've actually been to Uffington where it was filmed and it's perfect for Kate - such an ethereal area. I actually saw the video in a UK cinema as a short film before the main feature. Discovered as a teen by David Gilmour (of Pink Floyd Fame). He recorded a demo of her to pass around. EMI paid her to leave school and discover life for her recording inspiration. The rest is history. One of the true great artists of our time.
Kate doesn't hold anything back. She gives every song total commitment. Often people find this difficult to deal with. Especially from a female. I suggest listening to "Big Sky", then "Running Up That Hill", then "Hounds of Love" then listen, with headphones, in one sitting to the entirety of "The Ninth Wave". It takes its name from Tennyson's poem, "Idylls of the King", about the legendary King Arthur's reign, and is seven interconnecting songs joined in one continuous piece of music. THAT musical experience will give a quality introduction to this artist. You'll hear woman that howls and growls like you've never heard a woman in popular music. The drums are relentless. The background vocals are just this side of out of control. Dang! Crank it UP.
LOL!!! Janis Joplin never held anything back and NOBODY found that difficult to deal with, "female" or not. Same with Aretha, or Joni, or most of the other singer-songwriters...and pretty much ALL singer-songwriters "give every song total commitment." I know of very few listeners who have any difficulty dealing with a woman who is giving it all. Her sex has nothing to do with her reception, it is her pretension, self-indulgence and over the top artsiness which is off putting.

She howled and groweled and got all kinds of sounds to come out of her mouth. She was the first in Pop to do that as far as I know. Heath Ledger was actually named Heathcliff and his sisters name is Cate. Named after those characters. I love the novel, and I feel Kate Bush delivers a great summery of the novel. With her intense voice and melancholic instrumentals.
Dan, fair play to you for giving her another listen, and for paying relevance to her dance...she is the whole package of theatre, drama, dance, music etc all rolled up into a an elf like genius of an artiste. Two things...when released it was far from a conventional song, it was years ahead of its time and whilst time perhaps has aged it in terms of convention, listening to her later work where she stretches all sorts of musical boundaries then it does make for a fair comment..but she has played her part in making others sound unconventional...secondly the prose you read is wrong, she was 14/15 when she wrote the song, and her first two albums are a catalogue of her song writing when she was 13 to 18, recorded betwen the ages of 18 to 21 bar 3 songs which appeared on her second album... as for her voice, you nailed it with your own comments. She never broke into the states because she had a fear of flying, and therefore did not do the requisite publicity stunts to break into that market...if anything, the US eventually came to her as a result of other artists championing her ranging from Tori Amos to Big Bois. She is unique, and it does take a sense of time to adapt to that uniqueness...if you have the patience, you may reap the rewards, no guarantee obviously, so subjective is music, but great names in the music industry from genres you wouldn't think would embrace her and surely, as you alluded to, can't be wrong...Lyndsay Kemp btw was very influential character in David Bowies career in terms of visual performance and private life. Irrespective, good for you for listening to her...next track, hmmm, lyrically 'The Kick Inside' is a minefield and so haunting yet simple musically, but perhaps 'Them Heavy People' may be a good place to continue the journey if taken...go chronologically with Kate, from the beginning...that would be my advice.

I also vote for another video reacting to Cloudbusting! I think it was her older brother that knew someone via music spheres that knew David Gilmour, rather than her mom. I never personally fell for Running Up That Hill - but we can't all like everything. Other personal favourites of hers are The Man With A Child In His Eyes, Oh To Be In Love, Breathing, Kashka From Baghdad, Moving, Reaching Out and A Woman's Work, to name a few. Two of her later works A Coral Room and Mrs Bartolozzi are really fascinating and ties back to her earlier songwriting style with the very storyful lyrics.

You should listen to some of her later work as well. Her 2005 masterpiece Aerial has incredible songs on it, including King of the Mountain, Joanni, Sunsett, Nocturn, How To Be Invisible. Her 2011 album 50 Words For Snow is also a sublime masterpiece (try Wild Man or Among Angels). It is a shame that Kate is not well known in America. But in the U.K, throughout Europe, Australia, and Japan, Kate is an icon. She is a true original, there's just no one like her - a musical genius. Kathe Bush is more of a performance artist, like Laurie Anderson. Peter Gabriel also edges on it and sometimes goes over the edge. It is an acquired taste but I have always loved her. Along with other suggestions given, I would recommend Wow and Lionheart.
I first discovered Kate Bush when she had the huge hit "Running up that Hill" (which I'd highly recommend - it's a really interesting lyric), and then starting to buy up her back catalog. Was a little thrown by her voice in this one at first, but it gets better every single time! She's incredibly talented (yes, she dances and does the choreography too), and her themes are often unique. There are a bunch of great songs to consider reacting to, but as always, I'll try to recommend one that no one else will - "Experiment IV". "Cloudbusting" and a duet she performed wtih Peter Gabriel, "Don't Give Up" are also high on the list. Enjoy!
This song was released way, way before I was born... but I remember vividly the first time I listened to it as a small kid and it was the most beautiful sound I had ever listened to. "I like that bass" .... "Very interesting, very unique" is all this guy can say? Clueless at his best. She is an absolute musical genius, her voice is extraordinary and almost 30 years after listening to Wuthering Heights for the first time, it continues to be one of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard.
Kate did another song based upon a classic novel later on in her career. The title track from her 1989 album The Sensual World was inspired by Ulysses by James Joyce. It is one of my favorites. And the video that was made for it is really something to behold.

Yes, this was jarring to a lot of people at the time, but it seemed to mesmerise the public because no one had ever heard anything quite like it at the time. We didn't know at first that Kate was writing all of her own material and playing all of the piano parts, nor that she was in her early teens when she wrote a lot of her first album, the demos for which were heard by Dave Gilmour of PInk Floyd, who then arranged some pro recording sessions for her. Her tour in 1979 was regarded as one of the best, most complex and most theatrical gigs ever.
@@zeitreisende6866 Its an excellent book,very dark and brooding..there have been many movies and TV series made of the story..Laurence Olivier was the first one I saw many many years ago..but there have been more recent ones with Timothy Dalton and also Tom Hardy as Heathcliff. The story of the Bronte family is very interesting too..full of tragedy.

I wasn't a huge fan of this song when I first heard it because her slightly shrill high soprano voice was a bit much for me. It wasn't until a few years later I came back to it and started to appreciate what she was doing. And now I love the song. There's a version from 1986 which she did that I think sounds better. Anyway, glad you're giving her another chance. Her music is an acquired taste for sure but once you get into it, you realise Kate is truly brilliant.
"Wuthering Heights" is my favorite novel. I discovered Kate Bush when the great, very lamented TV show "USA's Night Flight" played her early videos back in the 80s. I would strongly suggest you check out "Babooshka", "The Man With The Child In His Eyes", and "Wow." For a great movie version of the novel I would suggest the 1992 version with Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche, featuring a magnificent musical score by Ryuichi Sakamoto of "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" fame. In the bookend scenes Emily Bronte herself is played by Sinead O'Connor. A couple of funny videos you might also want to check out are one in which a male singer sings the song in exactly the same key as Kate, and another in which scores of fans of all ages and body types dressed like her perform the video's choreography together in a field.

David Gilmour of Pink Floyd fame helped with her demo & persuaded the EMI record label to give her a chance; 2. Kate Bush was the first female artist to top The UK's charts with a self-penned song, Wuthering Heights (she was just 19 at the time; 3. Kate was born on 30th July 1958, spookily having the same birthday as Emily Bronte who wrote the novel the song is based on. I was just 14 when the song burst onto the scene, like nothing else around! I've been a fan ever since.

Kate’s not everyone’s cup of tea and when she was first on Top of The Pops, we were all saying at work..what was that! Of course we all really liked it, and her subsequent songs have been fantastic. She wrote the music and lyrics and played instruments. The Man With The Child in His Eyes. Her voice has many changes in this songs. Of course Wuthering Heights is set on the Yorkshire Moors where. The Bronte family were geographically and historically local to me in Haworth. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is so powerful and rugged Check out old photo's of Haworth and the countryside around the Yorkshire the moors and the dales through the seasons. Then you will get some appreciation of this novel. The landscape is entwined with this wild, passionate landscape
I loved your reaction to Wuthering Heights! I've only just recently discovered Kate Bush and then now obsessed with her especially her first album that has Wuthering heights on it. But I admit I had trouble understanding her singing on it, But hearing you explain the lyrics I finally know now and remember what she saying on it, in particular the chorus.

You should listen to her song Aerial from the album of the same name. The guitar that closes out the song is just incredible. She writes all her own stuff and really is a musical genius.
She is a "one in a million" type artist, one that Americans never "got" understood, yet an artist who in Europe stopped people in their tracks. Want to do more Kate Bush, well, she did have a moderate level of success in the US and some MTV coverage with "Running up the hill."
This is the first song I heard of hers, in 1980, and, yeah, first listen I was cocking my head like a puzzled dog, but very quickly I was in love and ever since it's one of my favorites, typically finds its way on every playlist. First LSD trip I ever had, three merry trippers and Danny a musician who's given us the acid, staying straight and keeping an eye on us to make sure of no disasters. At his pad he piped his stereo through his guitar amp, powerful, yet clean, sound. So we were tripping out of our heads and he put on some music. Two tracks in, even off my face, I recognised it. Kate Bush, Kick Inside. Few minutes later Danny just started laughing, we thought he'd secretly dosed and he was tripping too. No, he was laughing at us. He'd played a 33rpm album at 45 rpm (the good old days of vinyl) and none of us had noticed the difference, so out of it we were. He even laughed that I'd identified it. Acid or mushrooms, Kate Bush at 45 rpm. Fuck me!!! I remember after that he played, Lou Reed's, Walk On The Wild Side. That bass lick...tripping!!!!! And the coloured girls go, dootdadootdadootdadootdadootdaaaaaa. Mind blowing.
I like a particular interview she has on the song. She describes her voice and performance as Ethereal. I think that word best describes both music videos perfectly..
The awesome Kate Bush - I feel so privileged to have seen her live (very rare) a few years back. Even more impressive is that due to friendships with Dave Gilmour and Peter Gabriel her backing bands are basically pink Floyd or genesis depending on which album you’re listening to mainly thanks to her older brothers being well respected session musicians.
If you want a Kate Bush song that you'll love on first listen, even if she's not necessarily immediately your cup of tea, I strongly suggest "Running Up That Hill." It will make its way to your party mix, and a cute girl will ask "who's that?" 60% of the time, it works every time.

Side 2 (it was released when vinyl was still the main musical medium) is called "The Ninth Wave" and it's a concept piece telling the story of a woman trapped in the water over night and struggling to survive. I think the most impressive thing to me about Kate is that she wrote 100+ songs at about the age of 14. She’s a master songwriter to me.

@@robbied1261 It's usually mid July... and you can organize it yourselves. Just find a field, a backyard, or a townsqare big enough for the group to dance. Then lookup the training videos for the movements, get some red dresses, some speakers and your good to go.

Musically I've heard a lot by Kate and what I Hear I don't always like but she doesn't plagiarize other performers or singers, she is herself and is always interesting... This song is probably her most famous but never would I give to someone as a first listen, it's a little too out there and divisive... I remember hearing this when released and has a teen I hated it ... My suggestions... "Hounds of Love", "Man With The Child In His Eyes", "Army Dreamers" & "Running Up That Hill"... please do not give up on Kate Bush, she really is a female David Bowie...
Absolutely endorse the above. Also listen to "Babushka", "Cloudbusting" and "This Woman's Work.". The term genius is often overused but not In Kate Bush's case. She really is original and brilliant.

If you like her enough to get away from the obvious hits most will recommend, you will be well rewarded on your journey.
She remained the biggest selling female artist in Britain until 2003 when Katie Melua knocked her off the throne - Another one of my favourite artists.

She did do the choreography. I tend to agree with those who would say she's a genius but she can be an acquired taste. I don't like all her stuff but the songs I like - I love. Great voice for sure. Two other singles you may like - "Hounds of Love" and "Runnin Up That Hill" - both I think are universally liked by fans.

I don't like all her songs either but I can say the same thing for every single artist I have the highest regards. As far as being a genius I think she's a genius in originality. She did something that no artist in her genre would even attempt to do. I often wonder if she did it b/c of her young age. The great thing about being young, your so moved by high emotions and less inhibitions you just do it. Growing up I only listened to straight rock n roll but upon hearing Bush she broke the mold. It was then I began to appreciate other types of music. I guess in that regard she is a kinda genius.

Actually she recorded it closer to 17. David Gilmour discovered her around 14 or 15 and they recorded most of the album at his own studio and the record company didn't know how to produce it, so it basically sat on a shelf for a year or.2 before Gilmour had his own engineer work on the songs before finally releasing it when Kate was 19

She wrote the song whilst still at school as part of an English assignment. The teacher didn't believe she'd written it, it was too good. There's not a duff track on the whole of, The Kick Inside (first album).

This is quite simply one of the most gorgeous songs ever written. She was a trained dancer and was trained by a ballerina or a classical dancer. I remember this song way back when I was about 8 yrs old in the early 80s. Her compositions are light yrs more advanced than anything you hear today. She is a genius really.
One of her movement teachers was Lindsay Kemp. He was a great mime artist and dancer. Another of his students was none other than David Bowie!
Kate Bush is the only artist who could have written songs about Wuthering Heights and Wilhelm Reich and have them both be hits. Incredibly talented and intelligent. No one else like her. And yes, she did her own choreography. :-)

My favourite novel when I was a teen. I love to sing this. Heathcliff was the dark handsome heartthrob we all fell in love with…. People all around the world meet yearly, dressed in red and dance in fields to this song Wuthering Heights.
I remember being 10 years old and hearing this for the first time in 1978. Everybody at school thought she was weird and possibly a witch (in that Scottish kids at school sort of way), and the class was divided on whether they liked her or not. I thought she was (and still is) amazing. I've loved this song ever since. It has a magical & quite haunting feel to it. I never tire of hearing it. The album the song Wuthering Heights is taken from 'The Kick Inside' is excellent too. She was barely 19 when she recorded it and it's such an intriguing and mature album. So much talent. Anyway, cheers for giving this a listen.

Wuthering Heights is a GREAT read for anyone into Gothic fiction. Dark, demented, and completely unique in both its characters and atmosphere. It's my personal favourite.

Definitely, her best track IMHO. Hollywood star Donald Sutherland stars with her. She had envisaged him playing the role and found out from a mutual friend's hairdresser where he was staying whilst on a visit to the UK and went to his hotel room and knocked on his door. She couldn't get a work permit for him at short notice so he offered to appear for free. Always loved him ! I've actually been to Uffington where it was filmed and it's perfect for Kate - such an ethereal area. I actually saw the video in a UK cinema as a short film before the main feature. So unique! A complete original. David Bowie also studied with Lindsay Kemp. Both he and Kate were very theatrical. As she matured, her voice filled out and gained more power. Discovered as a teen by David Gilmour (of Pink Floyd Fame). He recorded a demo of her to pass around. EMI paid her to leave school and discover life for her recording inspiration. The rest is history. One of the true great artists of our time.

Kate doesn't hold anything back. She gives every song total commitment. Often people find this difficult to deal with. Especially from a female.
I suggest listening to "Big Sky", then "Running Up That Hill", then "Hounds of Love" then listen, with headphones, in one sitting to the entirety of "The Ninth Wave". It takes its name from Tennyson's poem, "Idylls of the King", about the legendary King Arthur's reign, and is seven interconnecting songs joined in one continuous piece of music. THAT musical experience will give a quality introduction to this artist.
You'll hear woman that howls and growls like you've never heard a woman in popular music. The drums are relentless. The background vocals are just this side of out of control. Dang! Crank it UP.

I know of very few listeners who have any difficulty dealing with a woman who is giving it all. Her sex has nothing to do with her reception, it is her pretension, self-indulgence and over the top artsiness which is off putting.

Heath Ledger was actually named Heathcliff and his sisters name is Cate. Named after those characters. I love the novel, and I feel Kate Bush delivers a great summery of the novel. With her intense voice and melancholic instrumentals.
Dan, fair play to you for giving her another listen, and for paying relevance to her dance...she is the whole package of theatre, drama, dance, music etc all rolled up into a an elf like genius of an artiste. Two things...when released it was far from a conventional song, it was years ahead of its time and whilst time perhaps has aged it in terms of convention, listening to her later work where she stretches all sorts of musical boundaries then it does make for a fair comment..but she has played her part in making others sound unconventional...secondly the prose you read is wrong, she was 14/15 when she wrote the song, and her first two albums are a catalogue of her song writing when she was 13 to 18, recorded betwen the ages of 18 to 21 bar 3 songs which appeared on her second album... as for her voice, you nailed it with your own comments. She never broke into the states because she had a fear of flying, and therefore did not do the requisite publicity stunts to break into that market...if anything, the US eventually came to her as a result of other artists championing her ranging from Tori Amos to Big Bois. She is unique, and it does take a sense of time to adapt to that uniqueness...if you have the patience, you may reap the rewards, no guarantee obviously, so subjective is music, but great names in the music industry from genres you wouldn't think would embrace her and surely, as you alluded to, can't be wrong...Lyndsay Kemp btw was very influential character in David Bowies career in terms of visual performance and private life. Irrespective, good for you for listening to her...next track, hmmm, lyrically 'The Kick Inside' is a minefield and so haunting yet simple musically, but perhaps 'Them Heavy People' may be a good place to continue the journey if taken...go chronologically with Kate, from the beginning...that would be my advice.

I never personally fell for Running Up That Hill - but we can't all like everything.
Other personal favourites of hers are The Man With A Child In His Eyes, Oh To Be In Love, Breathing, Kashka From Baghdad, Moving, Reaching Out and A Woman's Work, to name a few. Two of her later works A Coral Room and Mrs Bartolozzi are really fascinating and ties back to her earlier songwriting style with the very storyful lyrics.

You should listen to some of her later work as well. Her 2005 masterpiece Aerial has incredible songs on it, including King of the Mountain, Joanni, Sunsett, Nocturn, How To Be Invisible. Kate is a jewel. Watching her perform used to make me blush, but now I’m old. She’s an artist, all the way around. Artists tend to take risks.
Kathe Bush is more of a performance artist, like Laurie Anderson. Peter Gabriel also edges on it and sometimes goes over the edge. It is an acquired taste but I have always loved her. Along with other suggestions given, I would recommend Wow and Lionheart.

I first discovered Kate Bush when she had the huge hit "Running up that Hill" (which I'd highly recommend - it's a really interesting lyric), and then starting to buy up her back catalog. Was a little thrown by her voice in this one at first, but it gets better every single time! She's incredibly talented (yes, she dances and does the choreography too), and her themes are often unique. There are a bunch of great songs to consider reacting to, but as always, I'll try to recommend one that no one else will - "Experiment IV". "Cloudbusting" and a duet she performed wtih Peter Gabriel, "Don't Give Up" are also high on the list. Enjoy!

This song was released way, way before I was born... but I remember vividly the first time I listened to it as a small kid and it was the most beautiful sound I had ever listened to. "I like that bass" .... "Very interesting, very unique" is all this guy can say? Clueless at his best. She is an absolute musical genius, her voice is extraordinary and almost 30 years after listening to Wuthering Heights for the first time, it continues to be one of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard.
Kate did another song based upon a classic novel later on in her career. The title track from her 1989 album The Sensual World was inspired by Ulysses by James Joyce. It is one of my favorites. And the video that was made for it is really something to behold.

Yes, this was jarring to a lot of people at the time, but it seemed to mesmerise the public because no one had ever heard anything quite like it at the time. We didn't know at first that Kate was writing all of her own material and playing all of the piano parts, nor that she was in her early teens when she wrote a lot of her first album, the demos for which were heard by Dave Gilmour of PInk Floyd, who then arranged some pro recording sessions for her. Her tour in 1979 was regarded as one of the best, most complex and most theatrical gigs ever.

I wasn't a huge fan of this song when I first heard it because her slightly shrill high soprano voice was a bit much for me. It wasn't until a few years later I came back to it and started to appreciate what she was doing. And now I love the song. There's a version from 1986 which she did that I think sounds better. Anyway, glad you're giving her another chance. Her music is an acquired taste for sure but once you get into it, you realise Kate is truly brilliant.
"Wuthering Heights" is my favorite novel. I discovered Kate Bush when the great, very lamented TV show "USA's Night Flight" played her early videos back in the 80s. I would strongly suggest you check out "Babooshka", "The Man With The Child In His Eyes", and "Wow."
For a great movie version of the novel I would suggest the 1992 version with Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche, featuring a magnificent musical score by Ryuichi Sakamoto of "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" fame. In the bookend scenes Emily Bronte herself is played by Sinead O'Connor.
A couple of funny videos you might also want to check out are one in which a male singer sings the song in exactly the same key as Kate, and another in which scores of fans of all ages and body types dressed like her perform the video's choreography together in a field.
Kate, by her own admission, is inherently shy in public so her music & self choreography is her means of expression. Three great bits of rock trivia: 1. David Gilmour of Pink Floyd fame helped with her demo & persuaded the EMI record label to give her a chance; 2. Kate Bush was the first female artist to top The UK's charts with a self-penned song, Wuthering Heights (she was just 19 at the time; 3. Kate was born on 30th July 1958, spookily having the same birthday as Emily Bronte who wrote the novel the song is based on. I was just 14 when the song burst onto the scene, like nothing else around! I've been a fan ever since.

I loved your reaction to Wuthering Heights! I've only just recently discovered Kate Bush and then now obsessed with her especially her first album that has Wuthering heights on it. But I admit I had trouble understanding her singing on it, But hearing you explain the lyrics I finally know now and remember what she saying on it, in particular the chorus.

Great reaction, Daniel. This song always puts a chill up my spine. The other video, of Kate in the red dress, dancing on the windy moors, was the more iconic video, when this first came out. Everything about this song, just blew my mind, when I was a kid.

You should listen to her song Aerial from the album of the same name. The guitar that closes out the song is just incredible. She writes all her own stuff and really is a musical genius.

This is the first song I heard of hers, in 1980, and, yeah, first listen I was cocking my head like a puzzled dog, but very quickly I was in love and ever since it's one of my favorites, typically finds its way on every playlist. She's just so brilliant, beautiful, and ethereal. Check out "Oh, To Be In Love." One of the loveliest love songs ever.
First LSD trip I ever had, three merry trippers and Danny a musician who's given us the acid, staying straight and keeping an eye on us to make sure of no disasters. At his pad he piped his stereo through his guitar amp, powerful, yet clean, sound. So we were tripping out of our heads and he put on some music. Two tracks in, even off my face, I recognised it. Kate Bush, Kick Inside. Few minutes later Danny just started laughing, we thought he'd secretly dosed and he was tripping too. No, he was laughing at us. He'd played a 33rpm album at 45 rpm (the good old days of vinyl) and none of us had noticed the difference, so out of it we were. He even laughed that I'd identified it. Acid or mushrooms, Kate Bush at 45 rpm. Fuck me!!! I remember after that he played, Lou Reed's, Walk On The Wild Side. That bass lick...tripping!!!!! And the coloured girls go, dootdadootdadootdadootdadootdaaaaaa. Mind blowing.

The awesome Kate Bush - I feel so privileged to have seen her live (very rare) a few years back. Even more impressive is that due to friendships with Dave Gilmour and Peter Gabriel her backing bands are basically pink Floyd or genesis depending on which album you’re listening to mainly thanks to her older brothers being well respected session musicians.
If you want a Kate Bush song that you'll love on first listen, even if she's not necessarily immediately your cup of tea, I strongly suggest "Running Up That Hill."

Good for you, diving back into Kate's brilliantly, wild oeuvre. Keep at it, you will be truly rewarded. Her 1985 album Hounds of Love is the pinnacle of her career. Side 2 (it was released when vinyl was still the main musical medium) is called "The Ninth Wave" and it's a concept piece telling the story of a woman trapped in the water over night and struggling to survive. It's truly magnificent. I think you'd really get into it.
