One thing I love about this game is that it doesn't try to force the "true love" thing into Mario at all. It's not the love between him and Peach, it's not familial love between him and Luigi, it really has nothing to do with him, I really like the willingness to take the main character and just push him to the side

it sounds super obvious looking back, but Memory is at exactly 60 BPM...
...meaning the clock ticks are counting actual seconds passing! look at the progress bar at the bottom!
60 bpm is standard for most musical pieces, anything else is written relative to 60 BPM.
Standard or not, it's still a lovely detail.

@@gapplssb considering clocks ticking is a huge element, and the song is relating to time passed, I think it's a fair observation that it was likely done on purpose. Even if it's a standard, I think it's not out of the question they specifically chose this BPM for the link it has to time passing.

@@Tulip_bipTbh this might be controversial but TTYD's plot isn't that great. But it does have its moments, the whole TEC section with Peach was probably my favorite part of the plot because it had depth and was genuinely sad. But it seems like the X-Nauts really lacked lore and motivation
I love how they used the whole "we beat the bad guy with the power of love" which sometimes can seem cheesy and made it not only work out but super relatable and emotional. Blumiere and Timpani is probably one of my favourite romance tales in a videogame ever.
I heard somthing from another video saying somthing about love coming in many forms, and I think they were talking about how each pure heart was representing a different form of love.
I just love how the tempo is literally a ticking clock, so thematic.
More songs need to stay locked to 60 bpm, it's really magical.
Castle Bleck's theme also features a ticking clock and it was a beautiful decision if I may say so.
Most soundtracks related to Timpani and Blumiere have that ticking clock sound and I love it

This is the best Mario Game, it’s peak nostalgia. The story is so esoteric compared to most games where peach is just kidnapped. Very relatable if you have someone you love, that’s the most meaningful part of the game experience. And the game play is a blast I have no idea what people are talking about saying it was no good. This is one of the most unique and memorable Mario Games ever.

Fr I’ve had this game for around 8 years now? And throughout all 8 years this has remained my favorite game and I absolutely adore the characters, the story, and how serious the situation actually seems compared to other Mario games, and it really shows by the time you get to sammer kingdom. It’s so unbelievably sad to see it get hated on for stuff like the gameplay being different than the other games (I thought it was still just as fun considering these games were rlly story based anyway) and with this vid in mind the soundtrack is just.DAMN.

im not saying its bad. And i know its like the black sheep of the paper mario series and maybe the mario series in general. Dark theme and funny characters and nightmare fuel with river twigz and mimi spider form. BUUUT thousand year door is like a mile better though. I know its the common answer for best mario game or best paper mario game. But it really is a fucking great time. shame that its hella hard to get it physical.

Nothing in the mario series will ever top the emotional weight that this story made me feel. It's a shame how far the series has strayed when it comes to story. Especially the paper mario series.
And design wise for that matter, back then characters felt more creativity designed compared to the same old designs we get to see nowadays.

The mainline Mario games never really had much of a story to begin with. Even with the exception of Rosalina's storybook in Galaxy 1, it's basically just an excuse to romp through fun and imaginative levels.
The Mario RPGs, on the other hand, that was basically where the world of Mario felt really expensive and adventurous. It's sad that recent games don't have that sort of feeling anymore. Though I did personally enjoy the areas and exploration in The Origami King.

Okay but why on earth did Super Paper Mario have one of the most sobering and morose love stories I've ever heard?
I'll never understand why people hate this game. It's unorthodox for a paper Mario game, sure, but the story, the music, even the characters are charming and beautiful.
I love how melancholy Memory 1 is: it really seems like such a simple time, but there's an air of sadness like the characters regret that it's no longer the present day.
But each variation adds a new instrument and builds to happier remembrance. Not too subtle, not too hamfisted-- it's just a perfect musical representation of how it feels to look back on memories and recall them.
(And yes, to be sappy, I went through the same emotions just now while remembering playing as a kid. I underestimated just how much this game impacted me as a kid!)
Rented this game from the library because i liked the cover. I was maybe 10. Played through most of it but never finished it. Skipped through most of the dialogue then. Replayed the whole game a decade later. Left in tears. I love this world
This game is literally one of a kind. In my opinion, there's no game that can surpass this game's emotions. And it's a freaking Mario game. This is an example of something that can only be pulled off once, and can never be recreated just as well. This game has so much to it.

I know another game that evokes similar emotions, Pokemon mystery dungeon, specifically explorers of sky which is what i played
Theres something so serene and composed about the clock motif. This game doesn’t get enough credit than it should.
A ticking clock in the background should be a more common musical motif.

Actually I agree... the moment I first saw it, I was IMMEDIATELY drawn to watch my siblings and my own Father play through the story mode.
as was once said, the core of super paper mario and its story is quite relatable when you love somebody. love is the foundation of super paper mario. all of the pure hears represent a different kind of love-- the storyline is won with love.
i listened to this for so much tiem long long ago as a kid, subconsciously yearning. i have the love of my life with me now, and i can't help but circle all the way back to these pieces of music and feel accomplished

This will be the song I walk down the aisle to, a live version of it on a live piano of course. This song has been with me my entire life, and the emotions I hold with it will resonate forever. I have tears in my eyes as I type this. This song perfectly captures what years of long lost memories feels like, and every time I hear it its like I can see a timeline of my life in every note. I want to be able to feel all those emotions on my wedding day, and be grateful for all the steps I took to get me to get where I will be that day. I'm not sure what it is about this song, but it means the world to me, this GAME means the world to me, and I will be damned if I don't have a subtle nod to it somewhere on my special day.
I think its because this game has been with my my whole life. I played it when it first came out in 2007, and throughout the rest of my life I have continued playing it. It was the first game I ever beat, and I remember being so excited that I actually beat a game! This game got be through some truly horrible times. The happy childhood memories it brings me makes me so unbelievably happy. This game truly means the world to me.

Not cringe at all, I think it's brilliant honestly. Playing this game as a kid, I was amazed at how deep the story of a Mario game could be, looking back now I wish I could go back to those days :') This game will always have a special place in my heart, and it's so nice knowing that there will always be people who can relate to that nostalgic feeling

I love when I leave all the people on the internet telling me how much they despise this game, and then whenever I come back, I am flooded by touching stories of those who love this game. Super Paper Mario has really defined love in my life. That knowledge is solid in my mind.

This game was so daring, I love it
I think everyone is a little broken, damaged, missing something and while we will never get our time back where we might have appreciated it all a little too less im glad more than a decade later people still enjoy this music. I guess going back is a common interest for most people and this is one way, I felt robbed of a childhood I barely had but hearing this made me realize that even though I look back in hatred at my childhood years(the early ones anyway) I see that there was good times, a shimmer of light in the darkness. Maybe it wasn't so bad? Of course that doesn't excuse anything but I will never forget, because if you can't remember or appreciate it did it even happen? I hold these moments close in some I was none the wiser. Just a kid wanting to have fun, not realizing how bad it really was. But it made me stronger in a way and wiser too, and now I'm a little more grateful of what I have. Weird to think a game or music made me realize but sometimes its not a game. After all real people put blood sweat and tears into games, something you dont see a lot anymore. Its all just a little too real, a melancholy ending, bittersweet even. All this emotion from pixels on a screen, but now a core memory for different people who have come to enjoy something we all can understand. Maybe being a little broken is okay, thats what us similar isn't it?

I'm glad I wasn't the only one where this track came to mind for some reason. Doesn't his voice sound almost...solemn in this game? It really matches the vibe. Like when he assures Tippi in Chapter 8-4 that the other 3 companions are still alive.

The best paper Mario game IMO, and one of the best Mario games ever made, I wish Nintendo still had this passion and creativity for Mario games.
I gotta play super paper mario, make a series and 100% it again head on in full depth... take notes of what some of the characters say. This game truly just feels magical. And that magic is love itself. After all that's what this game is TRULY about
Maybe I’m just being too optimistic, but it looks like there might be a big creative era of Mario coming soon with the Mario rpg remake and the paper Mario ttyd remake. Not only that but they also brought back Mario and Luigi and it looks awesome! I really hope they sell well so Nintendo can make more creative games.
@@Wetbluecat Maybe I'm being TOO optimistic, but I'm hopeful that someday they'll give Super Paper Mario a remake as well. It sounds impossible, but with the recent releases and the return of the Mario & Luigi saga it fills me with some hope that someday we'll see Super Paper Mario again.

This game is so underrated. The story is so heartfelt and emotional and will break your heart at the end of the game. The further into the game you get, the more you realize this adventure isn't just about saving the worlds, but also about love and sacrifice. There are so many meaningful moments in the story and each one of them will break your heart. This is such a damn good game and does not deserve the hate it gets
most of the hate it gets is just cause of it not being a turn based rpg like the previous entries instead being a platformer, but man, it's more than just another game in the series

I love this game so much. It's a shame Nintendo decided to essentially remove all serious attempts at story telling from the series and all Mario games. And also rip alpha dream. This was a better time
It's a shame, but as time goes on, it feels like many things we like begin to show reflections of greed and lack of care, which in turn makes the things we know and love feel more like hollow eroding husks of their former selves, sorry if that's confusing.

For me, the Memory tracks are pretty good. The ticking clock, the old film machine whirling, the simple but building melody… I can see why people love it.
But… my favorite track in the entire SPM OST is without a doubt Bounding Through Time. The main motif, the Count Bleck motif, the Memory motif, the ticking clock, the buildup and gorgeous climax… Eee! I love it so much!
This isn’t my favorite Paper Mario game or OST in the series by a long shot, but neither is bad by any means. The soundtrack is still great, and it’s use of motifs and musical storytelling is spectacular.
Easily the BEST paper mario game, or at least the one with the best story. This game legit made me cry at the end.
EDIT: Also might be the darkest mario game.

The 60bpm really does it for me... Every time I listen to this song I inevitably end up looking at a clock and watching the second hand tick away... Reeeaallly gets you reflecting on stuff....
This and Celeste are the only games that made me cry, and this song was part of the reason for it. The tragic love story made me feel things I've never felt from a game before, and that's the highest compliment I can give it

I've thought about this so much. The first 6 minutes play while my life flashes before my eyes, then right as it ends, 5:49 plays.
I would give anything to go back to 2009 and play this game for the first time again.
I just realized that this song makes reference to the Dies Irae theme, which symbolizes death. The tragic story of Blumiere and Timpani, Count Bleck wanting to destroy the world, it fits so well!

Literally the best Mario game to me. I doubt Nintendo will top this when it comes to Mario games. It’s beautiful, tragic, and has that touch of darkness. To this day the Memory tracks make me tear up.

If I were to hear this. I wouldn't ever guess that this came from a fucking MARIO game even if I was given 1000 years to guess I would NEVER succeed. Can you imagine if Nintendo made a sequel to this? Even better, a sequel that's fully 3d and not 2d.

This music, especially that beginning melody, really has quite a lot of staying power. I only played this game once, well over a decade ago. But hearing it again got me misty eyed. I think one of the most special things about these Paper Mario games is they had the tonal variety to have moments like this, not just the quirky humor. It seems like they were trying to recapture that with the Origami King when it came out, but it just can't match the creative range on display in the older games.
I wish the paper mario games still went this insane with their stories...

This could be memories for anything and would suit a sad or reminiscent situation. For this series though this could be memories of this trilogy now that the recent games are *ahem* you know
This stands as probably tied as my most favorite Mario game. Tied between both Galaxy games. Galaxy 1 was my first introductions to video games, and is also in general such an amazing game, with a fairly good story, along with the library. Galaxy 2 because it just felt more fun, and also you didn't just replay the entire same game as luigi to get 100% like in galaxy 1. The soundtracks in both Galaxy games tie it together for me as well, but still. Paper Mario is definitely tied for first with how it has a story like no other game. Its beautiful, and heartwarming. Sure, maybe we strayed away from the RPG style for a bit, but in the end, it was worth it, we got this masterpiece. I cannot describe how much I love this game, the music, the gameplay, (except the one part where you hit a bunch of blocks for a code -.-) the story, and the characters. I even ended up finding my favorite video game character from this game, Dimentio. I love this game so much, and will always cherish it, along with both Galaxy games.
Finally found another one of these, the last one I had playlisted got nuked at some point, you'd be shocked how uncommon a proper mix of all the parts together is, been searching for the better part of a year for a replacement.
It was a good game for many, its story was flawless and perfect. It was just... not Paper Mario. This one was something else.

Anyway i tend hop from games to games not finishing them unless they truly get me invested and even most of the time it's thx to the gameplay i finish them. This is the only game that i replayed again and again only for it's story.
