About the lack of flags in the UK, my parents, in the US, had a lot of friends from England who visited often in the 1990s. The universal observation was amazement over the number of flags flown everywhere. They said that wasn't done in England unless it was at a government building. When my daughter in Canada moved into a new house, within the week, an old man from the Canadian Legion brought them their new Canadian flag, with a list of days it must be flown and general care of the flag. I remember studying with Iranians in college and their first identity was Persian, not Islamic. They talked about their original religion Zoroastrianism that Iranians followed during the Achaemenid Empire, Parthian Empire, and Sasanian Empire long before the Muhammadans invaded and murdered by the sword all the Iranians that wouldn't convert to Islam. They talked about Islam being the cruelist cataclysm that ever befell their country and that Islamic extremists will eventually end Iran. That was twenty years ago and we're seeing this in action right now with Iran being on the brink of total war with Israel and USA (from which no Iranian living in Iran will survive).
