      This keyboard seems to be better than the M50 given it has still the same 9 engines of the Kronos. However I feel that nothing will ever touch the Kronos or M3. It's just a shame that Korg decided to discontinue the Kronos, after they said that workstation wouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon.

    • @ErraticFaith

      They couldn't build them any more because of the global crisis and parts shortage plus inflation. Korg is a small company footprint wise and if they don't sell enough -- they accumulate a production loss they cannot afford. Hold on to your Kronos. Any new system will be prohibitively expensive (or a turn towards DAW like MPC). This will result in a lack of affordability for many currently. Not because they couldn't save up for it; but rather, if it does have any shortfallings -- much like some in the flagship fantom -- people are going to turn to VST/controller instead.
      In what is basically 20 years later -- I am still using Triton Ex Moss. Your board will always be relevant. So my advice would be to keep it. Unless you need the money and want to purchase current tech for accessibility.

    I'm a huge fan of Kronos and as some of the guys here would know already, I made a few tutorials and sound packs myself. I had hundreds maybe thousands of gigs with Kronos with almost no failure and at one point I started using two of them together. However, since I've been on the studio side lately, I sold the second one last year and keeping the other one only for making sound packs and for its RH3 keys. The audio cables are not even connected to my sound card for most of the time. Last year on all the live shows, I had to use my computer along with Kronos on stage, because I had to use backing tracks and loops as well. Using the sequencer mode for that is just a fantasy while you can do the same thing in 5 minutes on a computer.
    In the last decade, there have been incredible changes in the software world, not only in the music industry; the use of artificial intelligence, desktop and mobile apps, online apps, plugins, VSTs, DAWs, etc... Also, as a result, we see extremely fast hardware coming at cheaper and cheaper prices every year. Just compare the prices and specs for AMD processors or Nvidia graphic cards with previous years... When I see a new keyboard with 10-year-old hardware and software at this price range, it makes no sense to me. All the guys are comparing it to Yamaha or Nord, however, there is a bigger picture here. Those brands have other stronger rivals today such as Mainstage or Ableton.
    The days that computers were too unstable or too slow for live shows have been in the past. Many musicians including myself switched to using Mainstage or other apps. With faster CPUs, RAMs, and SSDs there are unlimited programming possibilities and sound options for cheaper prices. Also, all these features come in user-friendly interfaces. When I put my smartphone into my pocket and start working on any of those keyboard brands, not just my Kronos, I feel like I’m time traveling. And it is a shame that everyone thinks this is the standard for the industry. No one compares it to the improvements in the equipment used in other industries like cameras, tech gears, and so on. Instead of questioning this, we compare it to some other brand’s another outdated keyboard. When they add another knob or button we cheer, but those things can be done with a $5 Arduino. Super cheap SSDs can easily be found with 3500mb/s speeds and more…
    What I’m trying to say is, in today’s market getting decent up-to-date hardware parts together that meets the requirements can not be too hard for any keyboard brand. But are there any requirements? Is there even real demand for that? Because the problem lies on the software side for these keyboard brands in my opinion. With current software designs, there is no need to improve the hardware. However, there will be a point, the gap between the software of today’s daily techs, and these keyboards is too much to close. We know what happens to those companies that resist the change. The history of notation software “Sibelius” is a good example of that… The live music industry is already getting smaller or maybe it is turning into something else. Changes in music trends, developments on the computer side, and many other things can be reason for that. But the future for any music-related brand is on the software side. Unless any of these traditional keyboard companies come up with revolutionary software designs that will attract people using a laptop and midi keyboard; they will end up as NICHE PRODUCTS such as Prophet or Moog… The days that computers were alien things are already over. If you are still targeting people with little interest and skills in technology, I would like to remind you that there is a whole new generation coming who were born into the UA-cam era.

      Honestly, I've asked the same thing. Same with MPCs. It's pretty absurd and there isn't really an explanation besides cutting corners. It's part of the reason Nord can dominate and overcharge for what are essentially just the best samples. I don't think any other company's sounds are as clean and pleasant as Nords Piano 5 and Stage 3, but all of these other features are missing. I don't know, I just think it's strange that the technology is so antiquated in comparison to many other computer advancements.

    It has a Korg Krome design, I did not like that they removed the faders, in my case I use them a lot for the combination of live tones. The option I see is to use a pedal, but I feel that it would be very complicated and uncomfortable, one rule: you pay attention to what you interpret or you look at the screen to select the correct option without your finger moving to the wrong place. Personally, I stay with KRONOS, I will wait for the next model after the Nautilus. Greetings from Mexico

      I finally got to touch one at a local store yesterday.
      I like the 61 key keybed more than the MODX6 (matter of taste, perhaps), and it’s definitely quieter. I also found the panel navigation easier than MODX (which I really like the sound of, but don’t get on with actually using).
      In general it feels like a much better build quality. It had better, considering it costs about 1 1/2 times as much, but it seems like they are delivering a real improvement for the price.
      Edit: I own neither the Yamaha or Korg. Just wanted to say that my experience in the store was really wanting to try the MODX when it came out, but being turned off by the awkward interface and mediocre keybed. When I went to the store yesterday, I played around with the Nautilus for a good hour, and would have liked to have played around more.

      The first thing you need is to get a teacher. I wanted to learn keyboard, so I got a teacher and I have a weighted Roland A-80 keyboard with a Roland U-110 sound module (both off eBay), and the teacher okayed the keyboard. Then you go onto learning Hanon, to build your finger control, some chord progressions, and you can start learning a musical piece or two in parallel. You can probably choose something from Genesis or Yes. I chose John Williams' Cantina Band because I heard Hiromi play the piece, who is my favorite keyboard player. And then it kind of continues at your pace.

    • @jordanking7711

      Apart from getting a teacher, you want to get as many keys as you can afford on whatever keyboard you decide to get. If you're just starting out, the 88-key keyboard is a no brainer, because the majority of them have weighted keys, which simulates what it would be on an acoustic piano. If you're just starting out though, DO NOT get the 61-key. I did when I was first starting out 30 odd years ago, I regretted it because within 6 months, I was reaching for keys that weren't there.

      In my opinion, Korg was always a bit of a mixture between a Roland and Yamaha synth. Best of both worlds. The M1 was an excellent machine back in the day. Warmth of analogue with clarity of digital.

  • @bitegoatie
    @bitegoatie 4 роки тому +1

    You mention KARMA, and that reminds me, it's too bad about the old fall-out with Kay (his name was Kay, unless right now my brain is shorted out by fatigue). Korg had invested a lot in KARMA, then dropped it, including it last, without updating it, in the Kronos. Such a waste of effort - but clearly someone felt the relationship had run its course for reasons probably not related to music.
    As for this synth, it's a blast from the - well, you know. It sounds really good so far, but its controls pretty well leave you doing screen editing/"diving" to get sounds set up. C'est pas du tout à la mode, quoi? But you knew this would be swimming against trend lines, right? For a "performance" instrument, the keyboard has to be very good, with proper aftertouch and velocity controls - and those are in here, aren't they? And the price is surely very attractive for this spruced-up old stuff, no?
    What, the answer to some of that stuff is no? Oh -
    I had better go find some baseline information. Oddly, we do not get these answers here. Still, thanks for talking about the sounds and buttons.

    • @ErraticFaith
      @ErraticFaith Рік тому

      Yes but thats to be expected for this price range. You probably realise that your question is pretty unnecessary -- in the sense that this is a high end keyboard. With a great amount of power and engines within it. Point being; learning to program it (so that you can use those) is 99% of its true musical value. If you're not going to do that --- stick to a far less complicated (and much cheaper!) board.

    Can someone tell me what I need to look for when I am considering buying a guitar sampling from a company to load into my Kronos 2? Basically, I need to know if the sample I want to buy is compatible with the Kronos, but don't know how I know that. Thanks.

    • @alicaramba7680
      @alicaramba7680 4 роки тому +1

      Kronos supports Korg, Akai S1000/3000, Sound Font 2.0, Wav, Aiff formats. If samples are in different format you won't be able to use them with Kronos without converting into appropriate format. If you are still not sure about that you can simply contact and ask company you are ready to buy from.

      No... Once you experienced 'any' KORG-machine, you'll come to just one conclusion: KORG offers us a never-ending show of extremely deep and warm sounds that will never bore one. KORG synthesizers seem to have this sort of unicity in sound and structure, which can't ever be beaten by any brand. I don't know what that formula is, but it'll always keeps me just returning to this brand...for more than 35 years in a row now.
