    Thanks for sharing! We had an issue getting the tub out but we didn't want to pay the $130 for the tool in the link. After some different tactics my husband used a vice grip to hold the middle piece you put the tool on to keep it from spinning. My son held the wrench in place as my husband I lifted the tub and it came out with no problems! Thank you again for saving us money that we weren't ready to spend!

    Great video, very helpful. My Maytag Brovos had the green clips in the back so had to unscrew the upper fastener on each, then pull the top forward to unclip the front. My tub was stuck so borrowed the idea from another comment and cut a 2x4, 21" long with arcs at the ends to match the curve under the lip at the top of the tub. Used this, another block of wood on the center shaft, and a car bottle jack in between to pull the tub from the shaft. Found a few clothing items similar to the video. Gently filed a few burrs and rust spots on the shaft before reassemble. Machine works great now. Thanks so much for the video and all the great comments!

    Great DIY video on how to remove the tub on a Maytag Bravos washer. It very much helped me when my washer ate my neck chain and threw it below into the agitator and some pieces went into the slots and went underneath the tub section.

      Unfortunately this didn’t solve it for me, but I think I found why. The motor at the bottom of the drum is nonfunctional. I’m pretty sure if I can find a replacement part, that will solve the issue. Or I could just replace the appliance at this point, I’m due for an upgrade anyway.
      All the same, thank you for making this. I never would have found out what the issue was without your guide.

    Big thanks to your video - all steps were correct for us, but almost all were very tough to complete. We didn't have a putty knife so used our Savor credit cards which are incredibly thick to push the tabs - it took a LOT of force and then we really had to pry the top open but it worked. We sprayed KROIL on the bolt, left it overnight, then used our socket wrench and hit it with a hammer to get it to budge. We used the Savor CCs again to lift up the plastic agitator cover by placing them as "handles" on either side. And we had to use a Car jack with a 1x4 piece of scrap wood we cut to size in order to get the drum out. We placed the wood inside the lip of the drum, the jack underneath and turned it until it came loose. We heard several noises towards the end that indicated it was beginning to come out so be patient. Eventually you'll get it.
    Found a penny and a small amount of lint.
    Before we put it back together we used steel wool to clean and smooth any metal pieces that were tough to get off, then we used plastic-safe greaser. After we put it together again we lifted it up enough to check on the hex bolt underneath. It was already tight so we knew that wasn't contributing to the problem.
    We now can run the washer without error. THANK YOU!!!!

    Great videos. I removed the tub no clothes. Removed the plastic piece on the bottom nothing stuck in it.
    Found the bolt that holds the rotor on loose causing it to ride low. I removed rotor to inspect it. And found the nut that holds the shaft and seal in place off as well. Retightens that remounted the rotor and righted the bolt. Put it all back together and it’s working now.

    Tighten drum center bolt underneath the washer FIRST. Looks like a flat washer but has a hex head bolt in it. Lean the washer back so you can get an arm and a wrench under it. Finger tighten first as it is very loose. This keeps the drum in Sync with the positioning sensor. All done!

    Thanks you for the video, only a couple of things to mention, screw sizes are NOT designated by the head size or tool used to remove it. When you go to buy screws they are sized by the dia. of the threads. Luckily I had the Bravos XL model and the holes in the bottom of my tube are a lot smaller not those big rectangles in your model. So I did not have to remove my tube luckily. I did check the are on the outside of the tube had no clothes. So I checked the center screw on the bottom of the agitator by just tilting the washer a little bit. I found center screw REALLY loose I tighten that and no more F 51 code. But thank you for your idea of a tool to make and use for tub removal I may have to make one of those in the future. But instead of a plumbing 1 1/2 through wall fitting you are using I will just use some 3/8 NYLON or bigger cause it is easier to drill. Are the screws 3/4 or are the nuts 3/4, thanks dude .

    This post was quite helpful, at least until I got to the part where I needed a $165 tool to remove the stuck drum. That was more than I wanted to spend for a one-time tool, and shipping was longer than the Mrs wanted to wait for a repair. Couldn't find it anywhere locally. Did eventually use a grabber tool to fish out 7 coins that were beneath the drum, and so far the code seems to be cleared. I expect I'll have to replace the bearing soon, or else get a new washing machine, but this bought us a few more weeks (months?) Thanks dude!

    Thanks for this video. I followed this exactly, except used car jack and 2x4 cut to 20.75 inches and a 4”by4” small price to sit on bolt to pry up tub. (Guy has video in comments) Cleaned EVERYTHING interior with bleach and 409. WD40 and PB buster on bolt to accept tub when putting back on. (Toughest part was getting tub back on) Put all back together. Still got F51 with sort of normal to heavy load. Saw online that bolt on bottom was key. It was 1/4 inch Allen wrench on very bottom of washer. It was loose and caused F51. Other than bad bearings (noisy), I got a lot more life out of 15 year old washer. Thanks for everything!!!!

    Thank you for this video. My son took apart my husband and I cleaned all the parts and we put it back together. So far so good. It’s agitating and hasn’t given the F51 code! PTL!!! Thanks again!

    Hey this is an awesome video! We just moved into this house and have had nothing but problems with the existing Maytag Bravos washer. It will have an error code F1 when it is filling and then going through the rinse cycle. I saw on a different video how to get into the diagnostics mode and saw that the error code in the system was an F51. I'm hoping that I don't need to take everything out but, from your video, it looks like it is certainly doable. Who iknows what kind of crap the previosu owners have in their washer lol. Thanks for this!

  • @reyrene
    @reyrene 3 роки тому +28

    BEFORE YOU TRY THIS, you should know that error F51 usually means that you have to tighten the screw at the bottom of the washer. Simply push the washer forward, then tilt it against the wall (no need to tape anything), and simply use the right size allen wrench (hex key) to tighten the screw while you hold the bottom so that it actually tightens. That's it. There is no need to remove ANYTHING AT ALL (unless you really got a suck or some other item stuck where this video shows).

      Saw this comment after we spent so much time trying to get the drum out - was looking for tips. And at first I was like, "OMG, we did this for nothing" I'm happy to report your comment allowed us to check to rule OUT that it was not the hex bolt. Now I know more though and really appreciate your comment (we finally got the drum out and found only a penny and small piece of lint but apparently that was enough to mess with our washer - all fixed now).

      You make my Day :) by saving me time. I was about to jump for a second time into the excellent video of DIY (thank you for the video) finally after reading your comment i found that the screw at the bottom was loosed:( . I fixed it by following your instructions. Thank you for the excellent comment.

      But . . . what is "the screw at the bottom of the washer"?? Any photo or illustration would be worth a lot. What does this screw adjust or control?

    • @Oldpaint0216
      @Oldpaint0216 Рік тому

      Actually, I later discovered what this referred to, after I'd moved from pulling the tub out and eliminating that as the problem. The F51 code suggested a failed electronic part that required coming up from the bottom to remove the stator. Unfortunately, while that took care of the error code, the real problem was a failed bearing, the cost of repairs for which came to about the price of a new machine.

    Thank you for this very thorough video!! I just got the 'F51" error, I've never seen this before. Heading to the laundry room to disassemble it now...I hope I don't need any special tools!
    Update: You're right, that one part doesn't budge! but I did find a sock under the other part that I removed, then the washer worked again, Great video!

    Great video but I am stuck and cannot get out that 2nd part of the tub hub and do not have all those tools to get it up......not sure what to do now. Not going to spend $130 for tools I will use once and no certain outcome. But I was impressed with the detail of the video.

      I finally got that piece out but now the tub itself is stuck, not moving at all....earlier it was at least going and up and down an inch....now its just stuck in place :( One lousy step away!

    Hi, Very informative and easy to understand. Tx! This morning my Maytag Bravos has a F51 error message. I fiddled with the machine and after removing 3 water logged towels the machine went back to work and finished the wash flawlessly. I encountered the same problem with a second load that was too heavy and when i removed a couple garments from that load the machine worked great. So it seems weight is the issue. Any thoughts on what could be the problem mechanically? In another youtube video that dealt with a F51 error the problem was a dirty rotation position sensor, so it looks like many things can be coded F51

    This is great video. I came very close to getting the drum out but one of the six screws holding the tub hub has lost the track/grove on the screw head. I cannot use screwdriver to remove it. Remaining five screws came out easy. Any suggestion how I can get the last screw?

    I have had the same F51 come up twice. Through the guidance of my brother, he had me check the armature which is the plastic cover under the washer that covers the stator. The armature retainer comes loose due to vibration and backs out and pulls the armature away from its original position. I was advised to use threadlock on the retainer, but, chose not to the first time and the code recurred and found the same cause. I bought and used the threadlock this time and I hope that the issue does not recur.

    Such a good video but after taping the top, despite 'releasing' what appear to be front top latches, top stays rigidly in place; are there side latches on some models?

    Thank you very much for the video and tips. Our issue is not the F51 code but the bearings that sounds like an airplane engine on the spin cycle. Similar procedure though, thanks.

    Hey, thanks.
    I used a normal automotive hub puller, which is exactly the same without the six hole plate that bolts to the hub.
    I snugged the puller under four (of the six) screw heads, and everything seemed sturdy enough for what was going on. I still can't recommend not using a proper plate to anyone who doesn't have a mechanical background. Also a chance the hub is bound on the spindle and would require more force to lift - mine was lifting free by hand, and only became bound after it slipped from my hands.
