🙊🙈🙉 NICK ZAMMETI DISCLAIMER
Please note that my channel is for entertainment purposes only. You should NOT rely solely upon the information and techniques discussed and displayed in my channel.
I'm not a professional woodworker or woodturner and working with machinery can be dangerous.
It is recommended that you fully research each technique and decide for yourself what the safest possible work method is for you.
That bowl is amazing. I'm the one that sent the block to you because I knew you'd do something more amazing than I could ever dream of.
What brand of resin did you use?
@@Ben-Carr Resin4Art
@@mikewestman78 Yes, the good resin. If you are an OG Nick Zammetti fan, you may remember he used Resin4art resin, which was really good and did not tear out all the time while turning. Now he uses that crappy entropy resin that tears out when turned. He must be sponsored by makers of crappy resin.
Love it! Reminds me of a geode.
@desmando what else do you do with 100 brightly coloured handkerchiefs in a block of resin? Lol
Nick, I hope this isn’t an insult, but your channel is one of my fave to fall asleep to! Not that you’re boring by any means, but your relaxed yet enthusiastic voice combined with your chosen background music and the various tool sounds...it all just soothes my anxiety ridden mind! Thank you! 🤗💗
You should totally watch some cheese videos! Tranquility!
I've got a few that I use for that. This is too wild for me though.
These are my go to at bedtime. Usually takes me 2 nights to watch the full video.
they relax me to...his enthusiasm and smooth voice and shop noises! perfection....chefs kiss
I agree I love his videos my Husband and I watch them sometime when we go to bed as well!
“Bless you” for the hanky bowl.(sorry, couldn’t pass up on the dad joke)
Excellent! 😂
@Robert Betts . I see what you did there! 🙆🏽♀️ 😁
I was thinking of doing that but you beat me to it
Say robbie are you the gold prospecting california dude?
I wanted to like this comment but its at 69 likes so i didnt.
I’d love to see what the shavings from the centre of the bowl would look like in resin! I’m imagining ribbons of multicolour goodness.
Yeah definitely 👍
Absolutely, i hope he does a video of it some day.
😄👍
It looks a bit like those kinds of topographical maps, where different terrain heights are represented by different colors? Really cool.
Oh yes!
I was just going to say that!
@@WelderBarbie100 Ditto
The same thought came to me too. 👍
That's exactly what I was thinking
...and here I was, only just saying this afternoon, 'where's that Nick Zammeti...I need some good hearted, old-fashioned waffling!'...and then...here you are...yahhhh 😉🥴😊😂😁💜💜💜
This was so cool. Id love to see the pages of books done up in resign. Make two blocks and then fuse them together in a way that as your turning it, you reveal new words. That would be cool af
Peter Brown did a project very similar to what you're describing. It was very cool!
awesome idea ☺️👍
Can say a tear hit when you showed that. My Dad passed away I saved his handkerchiefs perfect to cry onto after washing of course.
That did turn out amazing. Really amazing. It's my understanding you have a kid or more than 1. You are creating a certain library to help em remember you. Which I think is pretty great. Hopefully they appreciate it.
Now I'm wondering what different ways you could lay or crinkle the handkerchiefs to get different patterns.
Right? Wad soaked bits into the container, press /vacuum chamber. That would look wicked!
like Damascus but w/ resin
I have an idea if you're willing. My idea is to make a small flowerpot out of powered metal and epoxy resin.
@@HeReS_JoHnNy-qc6vy metal dust is worse than resin dust so you'd have to be really careful.(lungs are a great place for oxidation and rust....)
I was wondering that too. Like bunched up or folded different ways.
Whoever created this resin block from handkerchiefs - what a great idea!
It's essentially phenolic plastic that isn't compressed. They do the same thing in a product that is used for all kinds of things. I used a piece for the base plate to my router table. Killer stuff.
@@willmorrison1022 yep, i had a neighbor who worked at a phenolic factory who gave me a load of that stuff. My trailer floor and walls are all phenolic now! No more rotting wood. Multi purpose uses, and basically will outlast most anything else. No rot, no rust, no warping!
@@unclemoe5733 WOW, you are one lucky dude! I wish I had such an opportunity, I could make a TON of things out of that stuff. It's amazing stuff. You DID have a lot of it to make a house out of it.
@@willmorrison1022 yea, me and a neighbor buddy got a stockpile of sheets of it stored at his farm.
@@unclemoe5733 And... where exactly are you located? ;)
You are lucky as can be with that. I do have a supplier around here that has a surplus and cut off bin. Fortunately I never need much more than just a little at a time, but it's sure nice to have some extra. Enjoy that, I know I would.
It's known as micarta, used a lot for knife handles.
Idea for a future project....
Cast a tall, narrow, cylinder of clear resin - with a wooden core. Turn the cylinder to a vase shape. Wrap the vase with yarn (e.g a colour-changing wool yarn that's 'fluffy') then re-cast that in clear resin again. Turn the vase again to remove surplus resin, so you just leave about 1 cm/0.5 inch shell of clear resin on the yarn, then hollow out the vase, removing the wooden core so it looks like the yarn is just floating around the stem of flowers🌺🌻🏵
Rather than turning old shirts into shop rags I have been saving them to make some larger micarta blanks for bowls and handles. I’ve also been saving old denim jeans to make micarta handles for my carbide lathe tools! The denim works great as it has a soft nonslip feel to it while being rock hard and very sturdy at the same time.
What are you using for a binder?
@@CeeJayThe13th I use regular fiberglass resin, something like Total Boat
Nick now has the perfect bowl to put his cough drops in 😂
I’m not sure how you came up in my recommendations but I have been hooked ever since. You are just pure joy to watch. Thank you and keep up the amazing work. And please . . . NEVER stop waffling. Blessings to you and yours Nick. 🙏🏽💓🌻
I know I'm the weird one here, but I love sanding. I find it meditative, and I've literally sanded my fingerprints off, literally until my fingers bled without realizing it! It's really satisfying for me... 😍
I was just about to go to sleep (it’s midnight where I am) when I saw Nicks notification and decided I needed some waffles 🧇
Ditto! Its midnight here too, but nick before sleep..
Its 11:13pm here in Seattle and waffles are definitely on the menu
2am here. The late night waffles are the best!!!
Yup 2:30 here but can't sleep until I've had some waffles lol
12:36 here, fantastic waffles! (And I don’t have to do cleanup)
Hi, Nick. How about lace in resin? Might make something really mysterious.
Using different colored lace…. Yasssssssss
@@katwitanruna I feel like using thick layers of black & white would look amazing!
@@alicianorris9352 alternating any two colors would look good!
I use cutouts from doilies in pendants and keychains. You can create stained glass effects very easily first and then clean with white or black background ajd they are very cool! Lace and tulle work very well too. I just love these videos, its something I may try later.
my mother and 2 sisters are quilters - i use their scraps to make seam rippers. actually a decent seller for me especially with other quilters.
Anybody else liking the video before watching because you know the content is always 10/10 when it's Nick Zammeti 🙌
It blows my mind how they got the handkerchief patterns to line up. Great job Nick.
Still waiting for the Bobby Duke collab 😔
I love how as you're cutting into it, the layers make it look like a psychedelic topographical map.
I'd love to see someone make MORE blocks of these! The colors that were chosen are gorgeous together
Of course it’s incredible!!! Please never stop making your videos! As someone who is bedridden, they really cheer me up!!!!
The whole thing looks like it was craved out of some Banded Agate! So sweet!!!!
I agree. Looks much more like banded agate (though probably kinder to his turning cutters than quartz would be) than marble.
Inspiration is even more delightful when it comes from unexpected places!!!
Nick, one of your best projects to date, I think you have increased handkerchiefs sales worldwide!
Nick. Given how chuffed you were with a flat stack of similarly patterned fabric, I reckon you would get even bigger thrill if the fabric set in resin was on the diagonal, or even folded in different directions. More diverse fabrics, e.g. sequins, lace, and the like would add to the effect. It would co e out awesome
Are you sure they were hankies Nick? As a quilter/patchworker, I seem to recognise the packs of pre-cut patchwork fabrics one can buy. They are often called layer cakes, usually 10X10in square. But having said that, regardless of what they are, you turned those cloth squares into something absolutely awesome! Are you going to use those gorgeous colourful shavings for another cool project? ❣️🌹
Fran, I was thinking the same thing. Those look like quilting cotton - some lovely prints!
@@bethrappeport9381 👍🏻❣️🌹
I'm the one that sent the block to Nick and you are correct. Those are cotton fat quarters for quilting.
@@mikewestman78 I did recognise batiks! 😘❣️🌹
@@mikewestman78 you are genius!
That is so cool. I can't even begin to realize how long it took that person to layer all those hankies, making sure that each was covered in resin. Wow. 😊💕🤗♥
The 90's informercial vibes I got during the slow-mo were just *chef's kiss* pure beauty XD
Can you imagine having a whole dinner service made of this ~ so 😎!!
For a handkerchief, that's not something to sneeze at.
Good one,
I always anticipate when you say "happy days", it always makes me smile!
I think my favourite part is watching the colours change as you are doing the inside.
It looks like a contour map. Multiple thin "sheets" of it side-by-side backlit from a light board I think might look cool.
Good to see ya Nick.
The layers look stratified, like sedimentary rock
That bowl looks perfect for cereal 🤩
That thing is freaking sweet!!!! I love how the pattern in the handkerchiefs carries all the way thru the peice. It looks like another layer compleetly. So far this is my favorite one. Keep it up brother
Thank you 😊
Wow Nick you did justice to this piece, the person who spent all that time layering up those handcuffs did a fantastic job not to get bubbles in between each layer. Xxx
I remember learning about micarta from Peter brown's channel, he made a hammer out of that and gave it to Adam savage. Not to undermine the content you have on this video, what you made looks beautiful.
I remember that one. He made it out of Adams book.
Great video. I like this one and the end result more just because: pretty colours.
That turned out fantastic. I've seen micarta scales made the same way for knife handles, but those are 1/4 inch or 6.5 mm thick. That bowl took me back to my days in the 60's when everything was tie-died and multi colored. Nick, you're the best! Love your channel and share it with my friends. Thank you for making my night/day a very special one. Good times and wish you, Charlie and family the best. ✌
So seen this over the past get years where people will take clothing of a loved one that has passed and have a quilt made. This i think would be another way to do something similar. Cut up the clothing layer it and set it in epoxy. Then have some talented individual (Nick) turn it into something nice like a bowl of even an urn to hold their ashes. Recycling and reducing waste. I love it thank you viewer that sent this in and Nick.
I love all the little awkward pauses nick does, crack me up 🤣
The layering reminds me a lot of Fordite. If you've never heard of it it's a manmade agate from layers of car paint that's a side product of car painting. It would be cool to see how something like that could be used in resin art.
I was going to say the same thing. It looks like a large piece of Fordite. I don't think you could get a real piece of Fordite that big.
Yea, it snuck into the jewelry world as "cal-silica".
Greetings from Canada. Enjoying all the creations. Inspiring me to make something myself.
Nick is the most fun to watch. I can't wait for what he is doing next. NICK, please keep the creativity flowing!!!!
WOW!! It's all so fluffy! I'd bet a lot of birds would love that for their nests!
Dude, this looks fantastic!
It's brilliant that the handkerchiefs floated ever so in he setup, to allow for the layers to come through.
Side note: Several other VPNs offer the ability to run on multiple devices, on a single subscription. I'd be careful making false claims in this age, as those other companies might push the issue.
love the way it turned out wonder what neon tie dyed cloth set up like that would look like maybe have some black light ink in the cloth too but love all of your projects and waffle on
The inside of the bowl looks like the map of South America. Fabulous piece of work.
Nick, you are very enthusiastic & passionate about your craft…DON’T change that just because of the Trolls & Ogre’s out there! I enjoy watching your videos, but mostly, I love that you love colour mixed with different. Shalom. 🖖🏽
That really did come out beautiful.
Put that beanie cap in resin in a bowl with another bowl to form the hollow, then sand to perfection :) I wanna see that! TFS, GB :) Oh maybe a more rounded bowl from the handkerchiefs next time that way you will get to see more of that YUMMYNESS :)
Noooo!
One trick I use to add a killer "shine" at the end is using an auto polish once I'm finished with my micro-mesh pads. After I micro mesh it down, I add a bit of Griot's 3 in 1 polish and it really makes things glow on resin or CA. It would shine that up even better and it would glow at the end even better!
this looks absolutely amazing, and when i realized that was with plain ol' clear resin my brain immediately went "what if, that, with sparkly resin"
It's like tye-dye but the colors don't blend, and stay true. Happy days! You need to invent a sanding arm, so that you don't have to hold the sandpaper ♥
Haha like it
This was a great project! Ive been using this technique, both with construction paper and textiles, to make cabachons for jewelry. Pretty awesome stuff! Keep up the awesome content, Nick!
Handkerchiefs..I don't know what One thinks make them into an Awesome Bowl, but that is exactly what happened, supper Unique 💕 love it!
This has to be one of my favorite things you have made! Never a dull moment with you, thank you for the fun and laughs!
Rock on! The layers look like a clay found in our state(Arkansas) that was used in swirl Niloak..Thanks for this project
It's stunning, the inside looks like a lake on fire 🔥 amazing. I'd love to see the shavings made into a vase or a set of three mini planters or even a serving tray
Not only does it look like marble, I think it also looks like layers of coloured sand xx
Absolutely love the colors. Who would have guessed.
Hey. Here's a wild thought; reproduce something meaningful in resin! The Gettysburg battle, the Oroville spillway collapse, Chernobyl disaster aftermath (or ar least the elephants foot), Tiananmen square. Hell, even a reproduction of the famous Roswell UFO crash! They all have historical relevance and could be presented really well with resin
At the end while you're saying how incredible the hankies did, I see that manekin head behind with the knit colorful hat and wonder how that would turn out in epoxy XD
I absolutely LOVE LOVE this bowl!! Who would have guessed that something as simple as handkerchiefs could be turned on a lathe and become such an interesting item!
Well done Nick!
Super! 👍🏻👏🏻🍀
Love those colors and watching how the project transformed. Found out about your channel from Bobby Duke and I haven’t been able to stop watching your videos since!
That is some of the coolest projects you've done. Would love to see the process of making that.
It looks so cool. My Father worked for General Motors and used to bring home chunks of paint they break off the frames that the cars travel on through the paint booth and or dip tanks. It builds on on the frames and they would chip it off every year or two but it is thousands of layers of baked on paint no resin needed.
Wow! If I just looked at this piece without seeing the video I would never be able to guess that it was made from handkerchiefs. Easily one of the coolest pieces I've seen done. You really should do more of these Nick.
It came out gorgeous! But some fine GLITTER (like cheat glitter)would have made It stunning!💗
I hope whoever sent this to Nick gets to see this video. That turned out great!
By the way, I've only been watching this channel, AND SUBBED, for a couple weeks. I am loving all the content, ESPECIALLY the Lego projects, and the waffling too.
We got to see it. It was wonderful watching our idea and work turn into something so beautiful.
Take it that you've never made or played with Micarta then?
That's what this stuff is. 💖
Wonderful project for sure. Whomever gave you that blank gave us a gift!
Thank You Nick for another amazing project and your positivety . Really helps after a stressful day at work
this would have made such an awesome cookie jar (yes i'm eating freshly bakes cookies watching this)
wow, always doing wonderful creations nick
You are a creative and humorous person from Saudi Arabia. I salute you
Finally, a useful use for the almost literal tonnage of quilt fabric scraps and pieces, aka "squares", that my wife hoards. I highly suspect every husband of a quilter knows this well.
Have to Hand it to you Chief, That'S'not to be sniffed at!
Ah yes, my favorite wood worker that helps me get to sleep ☺☺
Absolutely gorgeous! Send the finished project back to them as a thank you for their awesome blank!
Beautiful. I bought the same 5×5 square fabrics to do a quilt for my daughter. Now I want to use it in resin projects
If anything you ever make needs more sanding, it's this one.
Like mirror finished granite!!!
That is a pretty cool effect!
That's very funkadelic!! Probably one of your most original pieces. I absolutely love this particular piece. I love tie dye shirts. So this is right up my alley. But more than that, I simply love the originality of it.
Very groovy! Very cool! Very funkadelic, indeed! 😎
It turned out beautifully.
Regarding the looks of just the bottom, talk about "Sneeze-adelic!" 😊
Parabéns amigo ficou lindo seu trabalho.
That looks so amazing, and I agree, it looks like marble the way that thing came out. Who knew that resin and colored handkerchiefs could look that good
That has to be one of the more interesting ones I've seen you do. Had I just seen the bowl without watching the vid, I never would have guessed those were handkerchiefs. Beautiful.
Time fer me favorite waffler then off to nightmare land
Kinda reminds me of the rainbow eucalyptus tree (seriously, look it up, looks like an oil painting!) Now there's a thought, wonder what that would look like once turned?!
With all the colors and layers, the best application for this bowl would be to serve jawbreaker candies.
That is really, really cool! Certainly not what I would have expected! What a cool idea they had for setting the material in resin! You could do similar projects with quilting material bundles, too, I bet! They'd be smaller, but still possible to make neat stuff. Maybe even just something egg shaped would be cool!
It’s basically micarta, same material that knife makers use. Turned out amazing!
That's what I said too...
🧐...I see what you did there.
When you get something like that, do you return the outcome or sell it somewhere else?
I can’t imagine people sending gifts with the intention of receiving them back once work has been done on them. Seeing Nick doing a project with their gift, is undoubtedly the most anyone would hope to get back. Right?
He can't send it back, he's lost the note that came with it, so he doesn't know who sent it.
Maker of the block here. We forgot to ask for first dibs on purchasing the finished product, and it was already sold by the time we contacted him. We would never expect to receive Nick's hard work for free.
@@ilanna7915 Thank you for sending the handkerchiefs to Nick, you made our enjoyment of his video possible. I am sorry you missed out on buying the finished product though, it would have been lovely if you could have had it. A very original idea though putting hankies in resin .... well done you 👍😁
Looks a lot like some stuff that gem cutters here in the USA call Fordite. Fordite is a bit of serendipity, the built up layers of resin/paint that was on the walls of the various automotive manufacturers' paint shops, after millions of vehicles. It's really special and getting to be in short supply, now that painting methods and paint formulas have changed over the decades. I like how it turned out. Nice to see a video again, after too long.
Beautiful piece of workmanship
