This kid is on fire.
I saw chon back in April, the drummer Nate accidentally let go of his stick and it flew into the crowd and hit my sister in the face. In which I immediately picked up the stick and kept. To this day I believe that stick had some of his active energy left in it which made me a significantly better drummer! Lol
+Sam Jimenez Dang dude i'm so sorry... please tell your sister i'm sorry. Haha
+Nathan Camarena haha wow never thought you would see this. Thanks for the free stick :) I can't wait to see you guys again ! And don't worry about it dude if it didn't hit her I wouldn't have caught it
+Sam Jimenez dude awesome. some bio memory.
How much for the drum Stick? I'll buy it off you
@@drummshatYOOOO SINCE WHEN DID YOU HAVE A UA-cam CHANNEL??? YOOOO NO WAY THAT’S BRAZY CRAZY 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
LOVE YOU NATHAN ❤🗣️🤩🥳🤣😭😂
to think this kid isnt even in his 20s is mind blowing.
+henry diaz I believe he's 18
Why do you care so much about his age?
@@ashrasmun1 because its way more impressive if a teenager can play like this than if a middle aged man could play like this
@@ether2006 well, not really. I've see plenty of kids that got the time and practiced enough to get to the point of near perfection. when it comes to "middle aged" man - good luck trying for scratch, you will have no chance against the kids.
@@ashrasmun1 my point is, its easier to marvel at a child for being a prodigy because the skill expectation is not set upon them the same way it is set upon someone who is 30-40
That polymeter at 3:08 is complicated enough, but the fact that he starts it on beat 2 and carries it over the barline is just insane.
What's even more insane is he was doing stuff like that at 8 years old. Dude was born with drumsticks in his hands
3:08 that metric modulation is so snazzy omg
dude that beat at 1:55 is the shit. dope.
the drumming at the end makes me feel as if time slows down and my brain is melting
Such a brilliant drummer. He does so much with so little.
camarena is life... diggin' that new Brilliant ride dude
Brian Evans sure did a great job writing the drum parts for this song. That polyrhythm at the end though. Ahaha! Anyway, nice one Nathan for performing it. :D
The second that beat drops after 0:14; instantly everyone's grooving. So good.
I WANT that SNARE
What’s the snare is that?
It’s a tama slp power maple. They don’t make it anymore sadly
Dude set is simple yet plays it so complex freakin amazing wish I had this skill teach me the ways young master
Good god the sound of that snare is the stuff of wet dreams
This is so damn good man. Sick camera you got too... Thanks for filming this awesome drummer! So sickkkk
n/
Thanks for upload
i love this drummer
Awesome job
that snare sounds so good!
CHON ES AMOR ✌🏻️
+Christopher Randall Peña Definitivamente, ¡CHON es amor!
Dave Franco is a pretty tight drummer
+Jadebeet I was gonna say Karate Kid hahaha
😂😂😂😂
MORE DRUM VIDS PLZ XX
Drew loves time signatures you can tell, he's always chilling on the weird beats.
sickkkk!
i was at this show cool upload guys!!!!
3:10 is so fucking good
Awww man he doesn't do that SICK fill at 2:40 that he does in the recording of the song. I really wanted to see how that's done. Oh well, he nailed it otherwise!
Gawillamon yeah the tom fill? I was bummed too
That's because he didn't record the original song it was Brian Evans who did it
The second half is an even sicker vibe live.. woah
¡Es un gran baterista!
look at the perfect circle of stick marks on his snare! that is god-like!
I'm so happy this has no dislikes, not to mention I played super smash bros with them. :D
A very snappy, dry, (but in a good way) snare. fits the song very well. I'd love to see this song live.
That snare is so nice
fuck that snare sounds so good
Can somebody please explain to me exactly what's happening at the change up during the last groove? I can feel it, but im having a tough time looking at it analytically (is this an implied metric modulation or a form of polyrhythm?). Thank you youtube comments :)
1:54 ghost notes start poppin off boi
That guy wearing grey in the audience next to the toms tho. some real passionate headbangin' right there.
my boy is rocking Meinl! fuck yeah
Ugh, I love 16th notes
uhhh more please
Saw a different drummer in another video, I prefer this guy. He keeps the rhythm constant and groovy throughout! A natural.
+Bryan A Hummm i higly doubt you saw another guy, since i know nathan was the only drummer of chon
Matt Gartska does majority of drumming for Chon, then teaches it to Nathan
+BigElephant how do you know?
I think I saw Mario or Nathan say it on Twitter. It may be on album credits too.
Also remember seeing somewhere that when Matt Gartska records the drums for CHON, he plays them almost fully improvised
1000th like thank god maybe this will make my drumming tighter idk tho wosh ya ass god bless
Some whacked out phrasing there , love the time changes !! Awesome shit, Needs some Sabian cymbals
this kid is underrated.
Just say that, it's fucking art!!!
Looking back at some of the older CHON vids from the AAL tour, this kid seems to have loosened up soooooo much.
if you see the crowd trying to headbanging in the beat haha
some dangerous stuff right here
chon is my fucking shit. thanks.
What rhythm is he playing during that polyrhythmic bit in the outro?
NATHAN ROOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy shit is that his kick drum I'm hearing @2:00?
+xxguitardude93xx Some of it is kick drum, some is ghost notes on the snare.
Look how the crowd react to the fill at 0:52. Interesting how one fill can get people nodding their heads.
sometimes reminds me to Jose Pasillas
but he smiles like bastard 😂
totally!
what cymbals is he using??
What genre of music would this be considered? I find it very different. Besides that the drummer is awesome
zapp utopia it's usually put into the math rock genre
What a weapon
What's that sticking/ technique used at 0:24 :O??
Super saiyan
Pinto Lcm I believe a double paradiddle? Or maybe a triple ? Idk I'm not a drummer, mainly play guitar bass and piano but I think it's somewhat along those lines lol
He is performing drags, but with what seems to be triplets as well.
If there is a video I can suggest to you that can help you, it would be this >>
ua-cam.com/video/vSbnMq6QZkw/v-deo.html
Personally, I would just refer to them as Drag Triplets but I could also be TOTALLY WRONG.
Have a great day, and keep drumming :)
If you slow it down, Its just RLLRR, LRRLL (starting on the &), (End on just a regular rlrl on the hi hat). Sorta like a quintuplet only in sixteenths, There's not a concrete name for it, But they are really fun to spice up linear stuff.
Apothecarry yeah, five stroke roll. rrllR llrrL. Uppercase = accent
Does he hit the rim on the snare?
nice snare
0:23
No monitors?
Daniel-San got very good at drums
That's MA-KIO
Snare name?
I see you headbanger... 0:30 😂
3:10 what time signature is that in?
I was just transcribing this part, it's unbelievable. I figured it out to be a 3 over 4 polyrhythm (not polymeter, cause the pulse isn't the same) starting on beat 2 of each measure. So the first beat is in regular 4/4, then from beat 2 of the first measure until beat 2 of the next measure, its 3 over 4 polyrhythm. At the end of every 4th bar, he resets it by chopping the 3 over 4 down to only 3 beats (because it restarts on the 2nd beat of every measure). So to calculate that...and it is math rock...so its appropriate, a 3 over 4 can be expanded into 12/16. To cut it down to only over 3 beats instead of 4, it's 9/12. Some measures he just does 2 beats and adds one 16th note, other times he goes into 3+3. The fact that the polyrhythm is overlapping barlines is just mesmerizing. The rest of the
band is all in 4/4 by the way.
PM me if you want the PDF, I can send it
hey dude, just wondering if you still had that pdf? that part is amazing and id love a copy of your transcription.
Yes, I have it. I can't figure out how to send you a private message though, there's no option on your channel. Maybe I could post it to scribd? Lol
www.scribd.com/document/385904280/Chon-Story-Drum-Set-Transcription . This is from the record, not from this live performance
that 1:55
ua-cam.com/video/p4ngQkzdNMo/v-deo.html = HH/Double stroke snare left/Double stroke snare right/HH left/Double stroke snare right/Double stroke snare left/Four alternating on HH/Snare+Bass hit to close the fill. Seems right yeah?
The part at 1:50 is so damn complex. I can't figure it out XD
Ghost notes
That fill 0:25 fuck me
He kinda looks like the dude from "karate kid"
the bassist looks like Arin Hanson from Game Grumps. lol
#BringDrewBack
D':
great drummer , just needs to smile sometimes and come with a facial expression
I enjoy this music, but the show isn't energetic enough for me to want to go see them live.
Filthy Boi watch the audiotree version
He looks so unhappy
its the "i need to concentrate and not fuck up" face. This shit is pretty intricate.
I guess we'll never really know what he was thinking, his drumming is truly incredible though.
Matt garstka is so much better
Definitely a good drummer, but there's nothing special or new that inspires me. I won nationals for drumcore in the late 90's, haven't touched a set in 10 years, but i could pickup and play Chon music, well after some playthroughs. :)
Congratulations man! ... :/
Sulucion One literally nobody cares
Tyler Rowe - kid, everyone cares. just cause your talentless no need to hate.
Sulucion One You're*
Sulucion One idiot lol
