  • Patagonia is an incredibly beautiful region situated in South America. It is well-known for its stunning landscapes, national parks, and glaciers that attract visitors from all over the world.
In this video, I will share my suggestions for visiting El Chalten via Route 40 and hiking the challenging yet popular Mount Fitz Roy trek which is one of the most breathtaking experiences in Patagonia.

Wow great video and very informative. I’m heading to Patagonia in March but I’m still debating whether I should rent a car or not, since there’s not gas station outside the Calafate. I’ll be staying 30 min away from el calafate in a estancia and I would love to hear your feedback regarding the car rental. I dislike doing tours in a group but the fact that I I have to drive to el calafate every evening to fill up makes me uncomfortable. So you can make it back and forth to el Chalten from el calafate with one full tank?

@blankiki Thanks! I'm glad you found this video helpful. I highly recommend you rent a car for the freedom to see and do Patagonia at your own pace. There are a few gas stations in El Calafate and only one in El Chalten. Depending on your car make/model, you should assume that with a full tank of gas, you'll have enough to travel 250+ miles. So between El Calafate and your Estancia (if located midway to El Chaltén), you should be fine and not need to worry about fuel. Honestly, you may be able to make a round trip between El Calafate and El Chalten with one full tank of gas, but I highly recommend you fuel up at either point...just in case. There's also the option of carrying an extra fuel container; enough for carrying 20 liters or 5 gallons. Keep me posted on your trip!
