  • Video of how to hardwire a DashCam to your fuse box. Keeps the cable out of the way, and makes the install looks clean.
    Second part of video shows you how I’ve done my camera install with a switch to toggle whether my camera keeps recording while the engine is off.
    **quick note: I had to swap the fuse plugs because I had them positioned wrong on the switch itself -
    Below are links to the cables I used. I'm in Canada so this is Amazon.ca, but you can find similar items.

    I'm surprised no one, including the UA-camr, mentioned disconnecting the negative battery terminal first. Anytime you're working with the electrical, ESPECIALLY near the airbags, ALWAYS disconnect the negative battery lead.
    Otherwise, this video really helped me! I installed my dash cam into my old car with no issues, mainly because I didn't care what happened to it. I just bought my Si and I'm terrified I'm going to damage something! I'm not sure why I'm so worried about it, but your video helped to put me at ease.

    • @Lagos3sgte
      @Lagos3sgte 2 роки тому +4

      The air bag will not deploy unless it gets a massive electrical charge from the air bag module. And that wont happen unless there is a large impact detected. You don't have to disconnect the negative cable for this install. Yes its good practice, but there is no risk in doing what he did.

    I know I'm 5 years late, but hopefully youre still on here and available.. If I use this same setup, does parking mode still work? Are you using the button to turn parking mode on and off while the car is off? I want the camera to run while the car is on, then be able to use the button to turn on or off the camera while the car is off. If that makes sense. Also, are both ground wires touching? Or is one of them behind the washer?

    • @Jamroz
      @Jamroz  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Neil, I'm not 100% sure, but I'm assuming your dashcam kit wants a solid connection to the battery/outlet, the standard ground, and then it has a build in cable for accessory power. Maybe it functions as an on/off for your cam. Best bet is to check if the manual says anything, and then possibly google your particular model to see if there's help available on how you should proceed. Cheers!

  • @ronacutt7860
    @ronacutt7860 3 роки тому +1

    All good except that the connector is plugged into the fuse box the wrong way around meaning the dash-cam is running on un-fused accessory power - if there is a shortcut anywhere in the wiring of/to the cam (like a wire gets pinched on a metal edge) there is no fuse protection and the car could easily catch FIRE! If in doubt check with a meter first to ensure which side of the fuse socket is live then use the correct order of: supply, fuse, load, earth. (PS you don't have to take the A-pillar trim off, just pull off the rubber door seal and slide the cable under the trim then push the seal back on :) )

    • @Jamroz
      @Jamroz  3 роки тому

      I don’t understand your comment. Are you talking about the connector plugged into slot 1? As I understand it, it doesn’t matter which direction a fuse is plugged in. So the power is going through the first fuse which protects like the original fuse would, and then there’s is a separate fuse for the actual dashcam itself. The fuse connector attachment only has one path?

    • @MrLuis0098
      @MrLuis0098 2 роки тому

      @@Jamroz the left leg of the add a fuse pigtail takes a constant/ power 12V input while the right leg takes the load for a device(ex. Ur dash cam). The best way to check is to remove the fuse , then grab a multi meter and check whether the left or right socket pin on ur preferred existing fuse is powered. For example, if the left socket pin is powered, you must match the left add a fuse pigtail (left leg) for a properly and safe fused connection. As far as the fuse orientation, I kept it the same way as before removal and plugged it the same way into existing slot #1 on the pig tail.

  • @alexleblanc6364
    @alexleblanc6364 4 роки тому

    So if you take out the #1 fuse and put in a fuse tap the tap has two fuses in it. How do you know which to use or which one goes in which spot?
    I'm asking because I'm trying to figure out how to hardwire an autodimming rearview mirror to my civic

    • @Jamroz
      @Jamroz  4 роки тому

      I might say on your fuse tap manual if it came with one. If not, I believe the general rule is the the fuse right where the tap plugs in is the original fuse, while the second slot is the new fuse for the tap portion. This way you don't lose the functionality of the original fuse.

    Wil that set up work for parking mode using accessories hook up ?? Not the switch?

    • @Jamroz

      So I guess it’s not easy to find, but I mentioned in my description that I swapped the fuses around because I had the closed and open backwards on my actual switch. You need to check the diagram of your switch (it should come with one, or be online). Closed is usually when the switch not pressed, open is the switch pressed. If you want the LED to be on when only the switch is pressed, attach it to the OPEN fuse wire, if you want it to be on when the switch is not pressed, attach it to the CLOSED fuse wire. If you want the LED on all the time, you have to attach it to both. Hopefully this makes sense.

      I’m not 100% sure how it’s wired, but maybe if you attach the light positive to just your parking mode fuse, the light may only work with the button pressed into parking mode. Only thing I can think of atm.

    1 big question. why isn't your switch led light on?

    • @Jamroz
      @Jamroz  3 роки тому

      I honestly can’t remember why I messed it up in the video, or didn’t show it? The switch LED positive is attached to the #1 fuse, so the LED only comes on when it gets accessory power. So it lights up when the car is on. I didn’t want it to be on when the car is off so that it doesn’t attract attention, but it does work in both of my cars that I have wired like this.
