Back before JTHS split into 3, a music legend by the name of Lionel Richie walked the halls in his freshman year! He later graduated from Joliet East in 1967. I never saw him without a smile on his face. I asked one of my class mates who he was, and I was told he was a singer and would someday become a big star...no truer words were ever spoken. Also my grand father graduated from JTHS in 1912...I have his yearbook! I attended for 2 years, and graduated from Joliet West in 1966. My father and my sister both graduated from JTHS. It is the most beautiful high school in the state as far as I'm concerned!
My dad, Henry Pennymon senior, was the first African American man to teach in the Joliet Township High School and junior college system. It's also interesting that Sylvester Cottrell was my classmate and basketball teammate at Joliet East.
This is just nostalgia. I grew up here, and saw all of my siblings graduate from this school. But we moved, so I just broke my familys tradition 😅😅😅😅 lol
This school is absolutely gorgeous with detailed architecture. Im puzzled with two statements made in the video in regards to the school prior to 1901. In the first few minutes it is stated that the original school was located at Western and Chicago St, and that it was the old JC Penney building. Later, it is stated that it was on Eastern Avenue. Does anyone know which is correct, and have an address to coorilate? Or do those structures no longer exist? Thanks!
The police are needed in Joliet. I use to live in "Pine Meadows Apartments" and the black american tentants and the black and mexican maintenance men went after me every chance they got. I was barely home, because it was so dangerous for me and my toddler. I would come home to glass on the floor, the maintenance men would go through my things. I would hear conversations that i had on the phone from my apartment from other tentants who laughed at the fact that they we're getting away with attacking me. I remind you i talked very low, So i honestly think it was a secret camera in my home. The tentants would lie on me & my toddler all the time. When i address the tentants, they got very upset and wanted to fight and start threatening me. When i told the property management, they put a letter on my door saying i wouldn't be able to renew my lease (Believe me i wouldn't have renewed my lease anyway, because the environment was extremely dangerous) One day i called the police and the tentants upstairs from me already knew i had called the police, And we're already standing at the place where I told the police to meet me at, nd made it seem like i was the one's doing things to them. It took me time to get there, because my child is autistic. Again, i believe it was a secret camera in my home. The maintenance men, tentants and property management lied on me and said i had a dog so i could get kicked out of the apartment before my lease was up. Some parts of joliet are very dangerous, Especially Pine Meadows Apartments and other apartment buildings as well. I'm a black woman saying this, because it's true
