    In this series, I'm doing a part tutorial, part vlog, part timelapse of my 1989 Toyota mk1 MR2 AW11 restoration.
    It's been a long while since my last video. I've been busy finishing school and the winter weather has kept me indoors more. But I still wanted to get a video out so I decided to include some MR2 buying stories at the end to fill the space. Hope you enjoy it and stay tuned for more videos. I should have more filming time next month once I'm done with school for good.
    Work in this video:
    Clutch master cylinder
    Clutch pedal
    Removing plasi dip
    Buying stories

    black liquid actually is the right one, but it is black because rubber o-rings is melted and small parts now is in the liquid. You must replace all orings for brake master cylinder and clutch, there be one day when You press the pedal and it goes till the end and no brakes applied.

    There has been a scam going around for used cars. Many of the sellers will remove the license plate. They will also claim it was previously owned by an "elderly relative" to bait people. They will also claim that they are "helping them sell it". The reality is most of these cars are salvaged title/rebuilt title or they bought for cheap and trying to flip it for quick cash. Often they will do some sketchy "repairs" to the car. The reason they say it was previously owned by a "relative" is because the reseller (when taking ownership the car) will not sign the title to avoid paying DMV fees. The new owner the scammer sells to will take the hit on fees while they pocket the profit. Highly deceptive and very common scam going around so be weary of these ads. I ran into MANY of these scammers when looking for a used car on craigslist/Facebook marketplace a few months back.

      Yeah man I knew something was up just by how sketch it all was. If it wasn’t for my sisters bbq thing I wouldn’t have gone. I knew I’d have to get a very good look at the car and test drive if I got to see it. But I guess I couldn’t even get that far either way

    You have to use a line wrench to prevent stripping the line to the clutch master. Funny, I just replaced my clutch master last week. Most Aw11's clutch fluid is very dark and black due to the internal seals starting to wear and fail combined with lack of brake fluid flushes. It's quite normal to see the fluid that dark. Mine was the same thing. I recommend spending the extra money and buying the Aison clutch master (Around $80) as its the same as OEM quality. To my understanding, Toyota used Aison for the OEM clutch master. Some of those cheaper $20 units will fail prematurely. Hopefully yours hold up. Keep up the good work, love your aw11 series.

    • @RetraCast
      @RetraCast  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the info. I’ll note that for if I end up needing to replace it again later. May happen once I do a whole clutch job eventually. I just bought the cylinder off of TwosRUs so assumed it was the go to.

    • @TheBilliardCorner
      @TheBilliardCorner 3 роки тому +1

      @@RetraCast Yeah, I know exactly the one you bought. Its the Exedy unit off TwosRus. Some Aw11 owners had them fail within a couple months while others had no issues what so ever. I didn't want to take the chance so I just went Aison.

      Interesting... I was shocked at the $20 price here, having just paid UK £90+ ($125) for mine... I had bought a second-hand OEM but it's failed... all the UK suppliers seem to be crack-pricing them at the moment, but it turns out it's the Aisin part, so at least that's good to hear. (The US pricing versus our pricing isn't though... !)
      On the plus side, looks like our right-hand drive master cylinder is way more accessible! Mine's also got no bracing, not sure if that's because it's a Mk1a/crossover or if yours just had that added?
      www.hi-toro.com/images/mr2/master.jpg
      Nice to see progress anyway, will be worth it! Hopefully mine will be back on the road next weekend after two months sitting... :(

    Sounds like maybe it was a scam, I heard of this scam where the guy has a car it's always around 2k$ and they don't like to talk in person over the phone and they offer to ship the car too you and if you don't like the car they say they will refund you your money and pick up the car, and you have to pay them with E-Bay cards, they email you a phone number to give the E-Bay Card numbers to them, then after a day or two you get a email saying you need to get some more E-Bay cards for 1k$ for the shipping INS. and that at the time of delivery the driver will refund you your 1k$, Well after they get your money (E-Bay Cards) they ignore you and block your phone number and you never get the car...

    • @RetraCast

      Someone actually gave me free poly bushings cuz they had a spare set from another car. I need to do more research on if they are a good set or not but I plan on upgrading to poly at some point. My rubber bushings are likely worn through and poly is a logical upgrade. I don’t want my ride too firm though so I’d probably go a bit tame on whatever new shocks and springs I get later.

      It’s simply not the same. If you like autos then good for you, but I doubt many people will argue an auto MR2 (or most sports cars) is ever going to be as fun as manual one. It’s a sports car, shifting is part of the sport. Put simply, my own dream car is not an automatic. Wasn’t even a consideration.
