If its a flat grind , I noticed the difference between flat and scandi grinds on hardwoods. I too have to put more pressure on the the flat when im making notches.
Thanks for the video. I hope I’m not overstepping with this comment as my intent isn’t to troll, but rather just an observation. The problem IMO has less to do with the knife and the steel, but more with the comparison between a 1/8” flat grind Blackbird (general utility design) and a thinner stock scandi-ground Mora Scout. The scandi grind is specifically designed to excel in woodcraft, carvings, to bite deep, and remove material with the least amount of effort. Not saying you have to love the Blackbird at all, but it’s a given that the Mora would perform better, simply based on its blade geometry and purpose in design. Even with a properly honed edge, the Blackbird with a full flat grind is not designed to be a carver and bite like a scandi grind. For woodcraft, a scandi grind will always excel. You very well could have received a dud from Ontario as their QC over the years did go down hill, which has been a disappointment for many Ontario purchasers. Anyway, sorry to hear the Blackbird and Crucible steel didn’t work out well for you. Thanks again for the video and keep up the good work. 👍
I have owned two of the sk5 same steel. You're creating a wire edge that works right after sharpening but then folds over and stops working. The burr on 154cm is very fine and very hard to see but also to remove . When ya run it through all the grits and have that mirror edge ya gotta strop AGGRESSIVELY on a loaded strop with green compound. It will become razor sharp after ya do that for awhile. That 154cm is some of the worst steel for sharpening its nothing like anything ive seen. I have reprofiled so many blades and that 154cm on these Ontario blades is insane. I'd love to have that little blade, but man those things were so overpriced.
I hated my SK-5, at first, too. Exact same issues you are having. Had a guy put a convex edge on mine. He used a belt sander. Completely changed the knife! It now hogs wood as good as any of my Moras. Have someone reprofile it to a convex and it will change your opinion of the knife. I guarantee it.

Get the 420HC, or the S35VN.
‘to help you escape from your car’…get a Microtech.
Same problem with SK-5
Not a slicer by the way. Needs to be thinner for that.
I think that’s a fake.
