  • In this video equilibrium condition of a two-wheel vehicle taking a turn is analysed. Following problem is solved as well.
A motor cycle with its rider has a mass of 200kg, the center of gravity of the machine and rider combined being 60 cm above the ground with machine in vertical position. Moment of inertia of each road wheel is 0.525kg-m2 and the rolling diameter of 60cm. The engine rotates at six times the speed of the road wheels and in the same sense. The engine rotating parts have a moment of inertia of 0.1685 kg-m2. Determine the angle of heel necessary if the unit is speeding at 60km/h round a curve of 30m. If the road and tyre friction allow for the angle of heel not to exceed 50o, what is the maximum road velocity of the motor cycle?
