Where can I buy this kit? I have a Davrian Mk 7 waiting for restoration and this BMW conversion would be great for use on the road....for Historic competition I'll use a race Imp unit.
Improved the Hillman Imp buy 100% its biggest problem was the engine Rootes used in the Hillman Imp but l have seen another Hillman Imp with the K series BMW engine and it would have a bit more horse power than the awful original Hillman Imp engine and be much more reliable also the engine bay looks a lot neater and tidter than the standard Hillman lmp
@@raymondsanderson3768 Well it may have been from a cosworth design but it was a pretty awful engine the BMW K1200 engine was a far superior engine compared to the awful Hillman Imp engine they weren't very reliable as most British engines compare them with Toyota engines so far superior to those awful British and l know all all about them owned a three Hillmans back in the 1970s and they were under 10 years old and had blown head gaskets well l own a 27 year old Toyota Hilux and its the best carburatored vehicle l have ever owned and do any British car brands still exist today except for Jaguar and Land Rover and they are still building crap cars getting back to my Hilux it has done 437000 kilometres and the cylinder head has not been off also it doesn't burn any oil and it will do another 400000 kilometres easily because it's a Toyota the most popular vehicle brand in Australia for the past 25 years and Toyota are still making vehicles and have been building vehicles since 1937
way back, after welding and modifying the 998 heads, you could see about 114 bhp. some of these BMW 1000 engines are reputed to be at 200 bhp ! mmmmm maybe, but I would like to be there at a dyno run
I know RB Racing in the US developed a turbo application for the RS1200 fitted in a Grinnall Scorpion 3 in early 2000s. They gave 250, 275, and 300bhp. The car, belonging to Mark Hobbs, sadly met with an accident, luckily no-one was hurt...just a few cracked ribs as I recall.. The three-wheeler managed to do 100m upside down.... Stock RS1200 gives about 135bhp.
@@betacam235 Hello betacam, I am down here in NZ, pretty shortly I will have my new cam grinder up and running, are you doing cams , and where are you situated ?
@@bobawatsit Hi Rob, I'm in France. My message wasn't clear....the 300bhp turbo engine was a K1200RS. My interest is to find someone who can supply the kit so I can use a K1200RS engine in a Davrian, which has always had Imp power.
that bell housing is a work of art, bet you had the autosol out in the kitchen before that was fitted,
Didn't need it. You need sunglasses to look at it when it arrives from Carlisle...
The advice on bolt lengths is very useful, I guess you have done a number of these conversions to get that experience, thanks.
Done a good handful of them now :)
That fly wheel is stunning
Good work , how much roughly would it cost to convert one ?

Is that in Holme end, Crosby??, can you give me an idea on the the cost of the conversion kit?
@@HeinrichSchaxmann Yes - Carlisle. Conversion kit a bit over a grand.

The imp engine was based on a cosworth design!

K1200 is 130hp in US market spec.
@@TonySims888 l am not sure what they were in Australia in the 1970s
I built a 10-story block of flats while you were doing that
Any rooms for rent ?
I’m not overly keen on bike engines in cars, but I wonder what other cars you could put this engine in?
What gearbox do you use in this conversion?
Standard Imp transaxle with line bored alloy billet bellhousing and adaptor plate.
HI YOU FASTEN THE SCREWS ACROSS AND PUT A DROP OF OIL ON THE BOLTS
Interesting video but that flywheel was not clean when you mounted the friction plate and I haven't seen a torque wrench yet! Crikey.
My arm is a torque wrench
that fliwheel is way to heavy for motorsport needs a lot of work to lighten it
BMW engines, cars, motorcycles and anything that has the BMW logo on it is low quality JUNK.
What an outright total insult to a classic car like an imp rather put an A65 engine in least it is a British engine
I bet your loads of fun at parties aren’t you!
