- In this video I go on an overnight backpacking trip with my friend Brian and we visit Butler and Rockhouse Canyons as well as the surrounding areas in Anza Borrego State Park. We explored some of the areas used by Cahuilla band of Indians. I hope you enjoy. Any questions or comments are welcome.
All artifacts seen in this video were left in place, please do the same. Thank you.

Nice trip! I'll be adding that to do this winter. That meal looked delicious! Is that pack an Arc Blast? Looks like mine. Great video!
Yes. Arc Blast. Love it. Best backpack I’ve ever had. I brought way too much food! I have some better intel on that area I didn’t show. Shoot me an email I’ll send you details if interested.

I love how unmistakable that ramp to Villager is. I love that area and have been wanting to do that exact route. My daughter and I had a wonderful evening in JA Flat last year. Makes me want to watch the weather and sneak another trip out there. Hope your knees feel better. Cheers!
Thank you. It really is majestic in my opinion. Love that entire area. That is so great your daughter hikes with you. Wish I could get my kids to come along.
Really interesting trip. The Playa area is really neat, also like the Monteros. Very nicely done video.
Thank you!
As part of a project marking out Cahiilla trails in the northern part of the park, I traced and marked the trail between Lower Willows and Butler. To get to what you referred to as "the playa" you were following many of the "ducks" I created. When did Brian first start using the trail?
Interesting. A few years before this trip I believe.
The trail you were on connected the Cauilla village at Lower Willows to the village above Hidden Springs. I was hoping to hike from LW to HS then up to the trails in RHV up to the Nicolias Canyon rock houses this week but not with the heat that's forecasted. Heading to the Grand Canyon, instead.
Any issues on the off road trail (Rockhouse Trail) to get to the trailhead?
We drove in with a AWD Subaru Crosstrek and it wasn’t too bad. A few spots you had to go slow and calculated.some soft sand. I wouldn’t go in a 2wd sedan. We stopped at the Butler/Rockhouse junction. Beyond that to Rockhouse is not drivable by any vehicle as of a month ago due to the storms.
@wolfeadventures Awesome! I have an Outback with All Terrains so I should be good. Thanks for the tip!
@@chrisbuenaventura426 cool have a good time!
Have you ever hiked death valley. Panamint City/Surprise canyon
I have not but it’s on my list
@@wolfeadventures it's a strenuous hike but beautiful before the flash floods back in the 90s was accessible by 4x4 there is water on trail but not at mine
