I agree with Anthony with it being a snapshot and a glimpse, Next time out is imola we need to see similar performance to start getting excited about contesting Redbull and Ferrari for the constructors championship
Imola likely to be a strong track for mclaren too which bodes well.
Mclaren have gone well at Imola in the past so it could be a pretty good race
Last year Ferrari looked poised to fight RB before giving up, the Ferraris are sliding around a bit this season, like you- I think two teams will be in the mix with Rb this race, AM, Alpine and Vcarb will also be fast here and get into the mix, I wouldn’t be surprised if a RB or Ferrari or McLaren’s slip outside the top 10 at race start here. Oscar will be hot and can Lando get up for another race after the win or will he have a let down!?
The McL's win was a fresh wind in the F1-race. We hope to see more competition at the front than just one person dominating all the wins.
Totally awesome to see a new winner, I think we all needed that. However, the Red Bull’s inability to switch on the tires from the very low grip surface in Miami won’t be the case for many, if any other tracks coming up.
Yeah it was very Singapore-esque. And of course the win was helped by the safety car. Still a fantastic win but it is not indicative of future success….not yet.
True, however its not as if Red Bull have had these troubles before.
They didnt have these issues on either of the first two occasions here. This is something new for this car. Add into that the Australia weekend and you realise that Red Bull REALLY arent that far ahead this year. It's primarily just Max. Lando proved on Sunday that with a similar level of machinery, he CAN indeed take the fight to Max. Considering his consistency since 2021 (Constant top 5 finishes in 2021, always finishing 7th in 2022, and constant podiums and P2's in 2023) I think it's safe to assume that Lando is in a great position.
McLaren have another 5 upgrades in the works already (According to Zak Brown on Sky Sports), and Lando no longer has that question over his head.
I have no doubts McLaren are not close enough to challenge every weekend. But they've been FANTASTIC at Hungary, Silverstone, Qatar and Abu Dhabi for a long time. So I dont think its ridiculous to assume they could challenge there.
It's also worth noting McLaren have always been dogshit at Miami, this weekend was there first time ever getting into Q3 there. So if they have found THAT much pace at a track they've always had some of their worst results at, what can they do at somewhere like Imola (back-to-back podiums in the last two visits there).
Its safe to say there's reasons to assume both teams will improve going into Imola. But at the end of the day, we won't actually know until it comes around!

7.6 seconds gap at the end after leading for roughly 25 laps, would've been over 15 seconds if he lead from the start
God, give over, Max will walk it but I’m super happy for lando and any other that can curb the enthusiasm
Still crazy that about a year or so ago the team were P19/P20 opening race and now they're fighting for wins/podiums. This must give Merc a boost to show that when they get it right it can be done

Even the 7 that Oscar had would of been a big change and what a job by McLaren to get them working straight out of the box.
The last 2 yrs both Fartari and Merc bought upgrades and said they need 2 or 3 races to fully understand them.
F1 is going in the right direction and we had to go through this short pain of the RB's to get to where Ross Brawn wanted F1. "We went wrong since 2008 and needed to go back to go forwards"
It's had a lot of hate but the ones in the know knew this was coming.

Don't forget Piastri was probably in for a shout of winning the race before he had to pit and got bad luck with the safety car.
There will be the odd race that others win, but let's not continue the exaggeration, until the safety car, Max had the race in control. Lando got some luck with the accident, which played a very big part. Passing even a sick RB is still difficult. Let's see what the next two races show, before we start believing that RB can be challenged.
As a fellow Englishman I welcome this win and will take it as an encouraging sign. However I am now 100% convinced Lando is going to win the driver's Championship. 😉

I think what this race showed is that races are better when the leader or expected winner doesn’t DNF due to a car related failure. Australia was great, but it would have been much more fun if Carlos and max were racing for the win, instead of Carlos coasting to victory.

Maybe first see if McLaren (or any other team) is able to challenge Red Bull for a few races in a row? This could be just as well a glitch as their drop of performance in Singapore last year. Red Bull did not get their setup balanced and combined with some bad luck with the safety car Max wasn't able to bring this one home.
Still a very deserved win for Lando though
and an uncharacteristic driver error. In the end Max himself caused this loss by making the VSC come out and then pitting when he shouldnt have. His tires were more than good enough to last as long as Lando's.

Brilliant result for Lando and well deserved ! Fingers crossed that it will make the racing more interesting for us as the pack closes in . More fun for Max as well I would think !
2025 will be an extraordinary season, RedBull, Mclaren and Ferrari will be competitive and we will most likely see a constructors competition all throughout the season

I agree that both McLaren and Mercedes upgrades worked.
However, being honest. I don't think Merc actually closed in on anyone. They still were struggling to get through to Q3. Fighting Formula B (Haas, Cashapp, Alpine).
I think their upgrades plugged the constant theme of them falling further back every weekend (for at least this weekend).
McLaren on the other hand, undeniably took a massive step forward. Ferrari definetly need to hurry up, bcs Zak Brown has already said they've got 5 more upgrades in the works already. So Ferrari need to get their upgrade package on the car before McLaren add their next one. Otherwise Ferrari risk falling back from them. McLaren's new development hierachy is clearly working very well...
I hope this continues! McLaren will need to prove themselves on all tracks.
Miami I don’t think is a good indicator of performance. The tyres were overheating after just 1 sector, low deg circuit yes, but thermal deg is extremely high in Miami which was why Redbull and Ferarri were lacking massively to Mclaren. Imola cooler temperatures we will get a good picture of where everyone is.
The fact that miami didnt even suit the mclaren makes me excited for imola a race with more high to mid speed corners

Why is it that people are upset that Brits and people from England are happy for Norris. No one is getting carried away, McLaren's and Ferrari's upgrades are good. Max was rattled at Miami whether you want to admit it or not, he never smashed into the bollard for no reason. That bollard was a reference for the drivers where to brake, not a restriction where not to go. RATTLED. McLaren and Ferrari are indeed catching up!

Think if lando can have a good quali and have clean air he can take a couple Grand Prix. But max can easily keep the championship lead the entire season if he’s scoring p2 on a bad day. Maybe it will be a little similar to a typical Monaco where quali becomes that important every race

If Redbull can keep their heads cool with everyhting happening to them at the moment then Max will be wining most if not all the other races, the car is still quick and max suddenly hasnrt forgot how to drive.

Ferrari close with no upgrades this season is impressive. Redbull still have a far advantage when it’s set up completely perfect but other teams getting within a tenth or 2 of the redbulls full pace would be interesting
Put Max under pressure and he looks like anyone else, that’s twice now he’s been under pressure and unable to fight back. Leclarc and Perez would have lost 1st to Max.

Overall, review the map and have one that incorporates every country. F1 fans are truly worldwide, not just where the main races are held

I wouldn't be shocked if they go over budget this year on purpose seeing how lenient the fine for RB was.
I was thinking about this too.
That update was nearly an entire new car... If they haven't gone over budget yet, they have to be close. Does this mean no more upgrades for the year (or maybe just some very small ones)? Do they go over budget if they have a few big crashes? The upgrade was obviously worth it in terms of pace, but I hope they have enough left to keep up for the rest of the year. It's early yet!

Rb were only over budget because 2 Mercedes crashed into them. McLaren didn't have any major crashes in 2023
It wasn't lenient at all, especially considering it only happened because Mercedes used them as bowling pins a few times.
Awesome to see Lando finaly on the highest step. Always funny to see some always think the whole picking order is turned by the results of one race. Normaly the Safety-car would have picked up Lando instead of Max and if Lando would have pitted then he would have came out in the mid or rear of the field.
I'm hoping Ferrari can take it at imola, and Lando can finish above Max, or better yet, Max dnf. Let's make this championship interesting shall we?

Max is really good, but the truth is that so are like five others. As much as people like to think that Max is this mythical creature, he couldn't ultimately hold a candle to Lewis at the end of 21 (people will talk about the Merc rocketship et al). Everybody makes mistakes when they're pushed. Max was cruising for the last two years. Sergio is good but he is no Fernando, Lewis, Charles, Lando or Carlos.

the McLaren was arguably the fastest car. Testament to Max's talent he still qualified P1 and would've won the race comfortably, and then no one would've even realized how good the McLaren wouldve been.
@@daarom3472 thats what i mean. with all the problems max had with mechanical grip and the general problem with grip across all the cars. Its impossible to know currently what his pace will be like for the rest of the season. We just have to wait and see. Who knows maybe if lando sticks it on pole in imola he may have the pace to pull away again. And ferrari also have upgrades coming

2 freshly pitted cars raced and the Mclaren ended up 7 seconds in front though, when Oscar gets all the upgrades he might beat Checo in most races which changes things massively

For the past 14 years 2 teams have completely dominated this sport. The Mclaren's' performance during Miami means there's good potential for a championship fight. No one has been able to hold off Max quite comfortably like Norris did in that last stint albeit he got the position through the safety car. Especially in context of Max' record breaking domination last year, this is great news. For the next few months we gonna learn what the modern Mclaren is really made of.
Don't watch it then. I'm sure Dutch TV is far better or do you watch Belgian TV and pretend it's Dutch like you do with Max?

@@kristoffer3000F1 has it’s history steeped in UK. There has been more Brit F1 champions than any other nation. From Autosport . Every successful team, Ferrari excepted, has its base and expertise in UK.
F1 was founded and started in UK in 1950 at Silverstone.
You might therefore expect some bias. But there doesn’t look to be any other country about to change those stats.
Allow the Brits to be happy that a young decent guy, driving a British car, has won a GP over a runaway leader.

Few days ago suddenly Ricciardo was BACK and the press was all over him, only to be near the BACK the next day. Don't get me wrong Lando deserved that win and we are all happy for him but the British media are a complete joke.
