    I use an Alaskan chainsaw mill to cut cedar boards for trimming out the door of the Hobbit Hole. I also use the Hobbit Hole to kiln dry the lumber after it is cut. The chainsaw is a NeoTec Farmmac. The Alaskan chainsaw mill is a Neotec. Thanks for watching:-)

    I've always wanted to build a Hobbit home that I could live in. I love the artistry involved in your build. Being in Southern California, I like the idea of having all the exterior elements made of cement to protect the structure from brush fires. I have repeatedly watched your videos and every day I check your channel to see if you have posted your next video. Thank you

      Thanks, Ron! I've been working on the fireplace and it's taking me way longer than I thought. I should be done with it in about 2 weeks.
      Grab your dream! If it's financially possible for you, you should go for it and build your Hobbit Hole.

    Cool vids! Just a piece of advice if you get your chain saw stuck again, remove the bar from the cutting head. Then it will be much lighter and safer to handle as you get it unstuck. Also, if the tree falls while you're trying to get it unstuck, you are out a bar and chain, not the entire saw. I speak from experience.

    Really enjoying the commentary breaks where you explain small details about the build. It's very educational since I wouldn't have a clue why you'd paint the ends of the wood before dehumidifying them for example. Really cool progression in terms of filming quality and video style, love it!

    I used to trust in stihl and hursqvarna until a Chinese knockoff convinced me otherwise, now I've got two knockoffs on my 6 acres homestead, knockoffs felled trees and ripped logs to 6x2, 12x1.5 and 4x2 easy, I built my outdoor kitchen.

    I just watched the whole series so far... I love it.. this is an amazing adventure you have undertaken! I saw the Fred Meyer bags and figured you were in the PNW... then you talked about THE ice storm... It really didn't feel like that long ago... wow.. time flies... I'm going out to the Oregon Ren Faire in Canby this next weekend. And I know the Washington Midsummer's Ren Faire is later in the year... If you don't already check them out, you should... You might find more LOTR stuff to fill in your decor! I can't wait to see more... ~hugs~

    How long did it take to dry that cedar?

    • @Odd-Lots
      @Odd-Lots  Рік тому +1

      It's still drying. Using a dehumidifier and a fan, it will take several months and still be wet (but dry enough for door trim).

    oh man get a face shield, please please get a face shield. If you don't know what you're doing, not only will a half-decent face shield stop you getting dust and crap in your face, it will also save you from horrific injury.

      That's a good call. Although, I won't be using the Chinese chainsaw anytime soon. The tip of the bar failed after about 5 hours of use. I got a new bar, then after another hour of use, the saw just wouldn't start. Total bummer.

      A pair of chaps as well. Watching those undercuts I was cringing and waiting for a kickback.

    whether Stihl or Husquabarna (i am a stihl guy) there's a reason we pay the money we do for these saws. i have two and they'll last a life time. spend the extra money and buy the right saw. or... buy junk... and... well...
    as to the battery powered ones... they are great for smaller stuff. i have a makita set up since i have had makita battery powered equipment for 50 years. i figured i'd stick with them. with battery powered, stihl is just over priced with so many choices in battery powered chain saws. but the pros are now using battery powered saws up in trees for big jobs....

      Yeah, the Chinese saw broke after about 8 hours of use. To the companies credit, they gave me a full refund.

    So that thumbnail of the hobbit hole. Is that actually this hobbit hole you built or did you just grab a picture from the internet?

    • @Odd-Lots
      @Odd-Lots  Рік тому

      I'm not sure which picture you are referencing. The video you commented on is a thumbnail of me holding a chainsaw mill. I have some earlier videos when it was just me digging or doing concrete, where I used thumbnails of the Hobbiton movie set to show what I'm aspiring to build. Are these the photos you are asking about? The newer videos have thumbnails of the exact Hobbit Hole I'm building. They show the windows or walls or doorframe or whatever I'm working on. Hope that helps:-)
