I bought a small school last spring and didn't realize the back of these little guys flashed blue. At night with moon lighting they look amazing with the neon blue glow they get. Come spring and warm weather I'll be adding to the ones I have to make a larger shoal.
i bought these guys after watching this video and i adore them. you're right about their affinity for flow/current -- they do great when i turn the air pump all the way up and seem to enjoy hunting flake/pellet food that gets caught in the current, really cool to watch. And you're right too about the blue sheen -- it looks amazing, including in a tannin-rich tank like mine. just 100% awesome little fish.
Hi Rachel I got my kubotai today all in great condition and thank you so much for the extra one. I love micro-fish and these are just remarkable! I wish i could post a picture for you here. Thanks again!!
Doing my first literal aquascape, and I've had my eye on these specifically for it. Today I know more about them than I did yesterday. Tank is cycling. I can't wait to get a mess of these beauties. Thanks, Rachel.
these are amazing. Green fish are always refreshing. This is exactly what I need. I have a high flow high O2 60P. Their color would match my scape so well. Thanks for the video.
Check out the Sundadanio margarition as well, stunning little fish. The males also get a black anal fin- though they are not as great for higher light setups, they have a sparkle that won't quit.
Rachel O'leary funny thing you said that. That is the video I watched before this one! haha, Yeah they are really pretty, but I guess love the shadows and low light. Thanks for the great fish videos.
A lot really depends on how many you get and how you have your filtration (current) structured for the Sundadanio. I find they can do quite well in bright tanks,t hough definitely are not as striking as in a darker tank. Glad you are getting something out of the videos :)
Nicely done video! Thank you for using the lain names, discussing technical details, and showing us their incredible colors. There’s no other fish like this (in FW at least) and I can’t wait to try them! Great video!
I don't know if she said it in the video already but these lil rascals like to jump, so keep your tank covered. I already lost 2 of them even though the slit on my tank is only .2 inch small
Thank you for letting me know, yikes, I just put mine in an open tank (I have a breeder box on the side so took it off, and just topped my tank to boot!)
Another great video. I'm an Apistogramma nut and was looking for a different dither than the regular Nannostromus to keep with a pair of Elizabethae. Seen this video and decided to try them, and very glad I did. They look awesome in the blackwater tank the apistos need, are active and show no sign they could be a threat to any fry. Can't believe I've never kept these awesome little fish in over 30yrs in this hobby! Don't know about else where, but another bonus is they are so cheap... here in the UK they retail at my lfs for same price as Neons☺
Hi Rachel. I'm setting up a 32g fluval flex and REALLY want these kubotai's. I have hard water, ph 7.8. Do you think they'll show that amazing green color in hard water?
These are beautiful fish. Sorry I missed you when you spoke at the fish club meeting in Louisville,Kentucky. My husband was there and said it was great!!
On the basis of your species spotlight, Rachel, I got a school of these for a 20 gallon tank in my office. I think they are, hands down, the most gorgeous schooling fish I've ever owned. Against a black background, with slightly acidic water... just slightly, and with good food this fish explodes with... delicate color? Is that an oxymoron? And, they're fine with the bloody mary shrimp I have, as well. In any case, thanks for the recommendation. I'm thrilled to discover this little jewel.
im going back to the beginning to watch what ive missed. 1 thing that um, concerned me a bit; ur eye my good lady, um might i ask who graciously bestowed that on u?
Hello Rachel, this fish are absolutly awesome, but their requirements for pH borders me a bit. because I have pH around 7-8 pH based on CO2 levels. Do you think they can handle higher pH than you highlighted ? Thank you for a comment! If they can handle pH around 8 during the night i will definitly go for this fish !
These look great. Right in the color of green I like. Just to let you know. I joined Coast Fish Club. It is pretty far away, but worth it. I get to stop by a LFS that I've come to like, that's half way to Costa Mesa. Thanks for the tip a while back, I did my first auction, and I might be hooked. Made out like bandit.
Wow those are cool! They would get along with endlers, right? My 20 high is fairly stocked with: 7 endlers 3 neon tetras 1 small peacock gudgeon 1 honey gourami (small) 1 small betta (pinkish/purple) Everyone is really nice, and I have a filter for a 30 gallon tank, I think. These green fish would be just beautiful in my tank! What is the bare minimum you would recommend if I got any? I just don't want to overstock.
i was avoiding getting these guys since i thought they would blend in too much with my plants, but now I'm tempted to give them a try!(My LFS has a bunch, currently)
great video as always! do these do well in shrimp tanks with red cherry? will red cherry be able to breed in a full planted tank if Rasboras are in there ?
So long as it’s well planted and there are several places to hide I don’t see why not but you won’t get as many shrimp babies as u would if there weren’t fish
Hi Rachel, which of the tiny rasboras would do best in a planted 20 long? We love all your species profile videos, and would love to get a sale list from you.
Last week I bought some of these fish from a local store and mine do not school at all, they are constantly bickering and pretty territorial. They chase each other around, they chase my ember tetra's and they chase any cherry shrimp that dares to come close. They even chase around my last remaining female endlers guppy, even though she's a fair bit bigger than the kubotai's. Do you have any advice on how to make them more peaceful? The way mine are behaving, I would not call them very timid nor very compatible with other timid fish. They do appear to be healthy and active, they are happily accepting food and seem to really appreciate the flow at the top of my tank. . The tank is a 2 feet long 54 liter planted tank stocked with 16 kubotai's, 9 ember tetra's, around 20 young adult cherry shrimps and a single female endlers guppy. Temperature is 22 degrees celcius, PH is around 7.2 and a hardness of about 8 dkh.
How many did you buy ? if you have at least 6 or more they might stop, some fish will be aggressive if not in a big group. BTW i know your comment is old but just thought I'd tell you in case you still had them and that problem.
I have 10 kubotai, I had more but a couple of them vanished. Some were a bit skinny when i got them and did not get better. The 10 I have left are doing pretty good but they still bicker a bit. The female endler reasserted it's dominance and is yet again the queen of the tank. I did notice something interesting about the kubotai's, they do start to school when there is a thunder storm nearby.
Just discovered White cloud mountain minutes. Would love to see a species highlight. And I live in the Philadelphia and was very interested in your video where you said you put fish outside to breed.
Hello Rachel, this video was very useful! I have a question... what kind of other small fish could I add to a tank with these little green guys in it? Thanks
I keep a school of 9 kubotai rasboras with sparkling gouramis🙂 they seem to get along peacefully and both are coloured beautifully, hope that's helpful!
hi Rachael, thanks for the video very cool. Got a few questions 1. Do you have the same water conditions for chilli Rasbora as these guys 2.Can you keep these guys and chillies with Neogardina Shrimp. 3. What species of fish can you recommend that you can use to take care of mosquito larvae. Thanks again for the awesome videos
I am doing a 29 gallon (very heavily) planted tank and am planning on having a few schools of nano fish. I have my heart set on these guys as one of the schools. So far I have some pygmy corydoras, and am watching your website, hoping finances and availability are going to match up with your kubotai coming out of quarantine. I am thinking of Danio Glowlight Choprae for the 3rd and last school. What do you think? Is there another nano fish that you think might be better with the kubotai and pygmy corydoras? By the way, I love your videos :)
I was looking at the little Vietnamese White Cloud. Very cute. My only concern with them and the other White Cloud Minnows is the temperature. I don't have air conditioning, and am sure there will be a day or two during summer months when the tank temperature is likely to get into the upper 70s. Would they be okay?
I bought 5 of them and 3 died within 2 days T.T I am almost sure they had neon tetra disease. They started swimming funny like they could not hold direction. I tested the water, and it was within normal parameters. I am so bummed.
Many people's misunderstand this guy to Diamonds Neon Tetra have blue line and an blue color under there blue line not usually red. It look like normal Neon Tetra

@chuck T where did u purchase these bc I want a large school in my 55 gallon that I’m setting up and r these fish hardy?
Mine have the blue flash on them too ❤
Thanks a lot Rachel.... now I have to squeeze another tank into the fishroom. Oh the humanity!
Definitely the best species spotlight for these fish on the Tube. Thanks Rachel.

Oh, now I see what you mean. Thanks for your help Rachel. Yeah these are great videos!
+ADU Aquascaping don't forget about green neons, paracheirodon simulate as well. They POP :) /geek mode off
I love all these small fish!!
Stunning fish, easy to believe why someone would think these are glofish when they are not! Nice video :)
Nicely done video! Thank you for using the lain names, discussing technical details, and showing us their incredible colors. There’s no other fish like this (in FW at least) and I can’t wait to try them! Great video!
That is one beautiful little fish. Great video.
They are beautiful... this color is so rare among fishes.
So nice. Easy to have? How do you like them. How many together, school fish?...
I think these have to be the most vibrant looking tropical fish I've seen yet. One to consider when I eventually restart my hobby. Good video. :)
I don't know if she said it in the video already but these lil rascals like to jump, so keep your tank covered. I already lost 2 of them even though the slit on my tank is only .2 inch small

A couple of stunning tanks you have there.

Are they known to be jumpers if the aquarium has no cover?
I miss you. When are you coming back? I still enjoy your old videos.
I'm not sure. Still dealing with chemo and the side effects
Hi Rachel. I'm setting up a 32g fluval flex and REALLY want these kubotai's. I have hard water, ph 7.8. Do you think they'll show that amazing green color in hard water?

Would these work in a 20 tall, 4 betta sorority? Like a school of 10
My two favorite colors.. green and yellow ...I want this fish!!
im going back to the beginning to watch what ive missed. 1 thing that um, concerned me a bit; ur eye my good lady, um might i ask who graciously bestowed that on u?

A very experienced a thorough video. Great job!
They don't need a heater?

Beautiful fish ... and a pretty awesome T-shirt, too
Do these fish need live plants ? I have moss balls at the bottom but that’s about it
It would be better To have live plant
Thank you for showing off these lovely fish. I've never heard of them before, and they look fantastic. Looking into getting some now! :D
Would you recommend putting them a 10 gal community tank???
Awesome, nice info! Just picked up a bunch of these for my 30 gal community!
great video as always! do these do well in shrimp tanks with red cherry? will red cherry be able to breed in a full planted tank if Rasboras are in there ?

Hi Rachel, which of the tiny rasboras would do best in a planted 20 long? We love all your species profile videos, and would love to get a sale list from you.
+Mark Quadrozzi Really any of them, depends on what you like (color, behavior). My stock list can be found on my website: msjinkzd.com/stocklist/
First time deki he green nion tetra. Beautiful fish

These would compliment lemon tetras really well
Just discovered White cloud mountain minutes. Would love to see a species highlight. And I live in the Philadelphia and was very interested in your video where you said you put fish outside to breed.
I will absolutely do a species spotlight. I also am planning a series around the breeding bins which will start in march
Beautiful fish. These will be on my have to get list!
Thanks for the video!!
Will they eat a grown brine shrimp, or only the small ones?
Do you adjust your water ph for breeding? If not what is your ph ? Mine is 7.4.
Ive got a school of these with threadfin rainbows, rummynose tetras, and platinum white angels and the result is glorius
Never seen them in Long Island. How can I find any stores that have them?
Would these go good in a tank with Zebra Danios, Cory’s, and a Bolivian Ram?
Do fry need infusoria or can do without?
Wow. Need to get my hands on 20-30 of these critters. 😀
wow... beautiful neon
I know this is an older video, but does anyone know if these could be kept in a blackwater tank? TIA!
How many of these would you recommend putting into a 20 litre tank? Just on their own.
Maybe a 40 l but not a 5 gallons
Could you do a video on how to breed harlequin rasboras? Great video by the way!
Where can I get the neon green rasboras
Do a species spotlight in sawbwa resplendens and danio tinwini. I have four tins and they're beautiful but really want sawbwas
hi Rachael, thanks for the video very cool.
I’m five years late but...
Chillies? Hell no. The neon greens would melt in that pH
lovely little fish, but i never have seen them here.
What is the GH/KH of the water that you are able to breed these in? You have mentioned before your tap water is on the soft side.
+puffsplus72 These were bred outside in rain water most successfully, which was exceptionally soft.
+Rachel O'leary Have you been able to breed these guys in tap water too? Or just in rain water?
yea, they spawned inside as well, but yield was lower (less space and volume, probably leading to more predation)
+Rachel O'leary So what is the GH/KH of your tap water? Mine is 9 GH/5 KH, and I'm wondering if I can spawn Kubotai.
+puffsplus72 gh6, kh7
I have a small group of 13 microdevario kubotai and want to try breeding them. Fingers crossed!
Any updates on breeding them? I plan on trying it too.
I LOVE these little beauties❤️I wish I could find some.
I LOVE these fish, they are so striking!
Thanks. I have a tank dedicated to these beautiful fish. But no breeding yet
Omg I've never seen this video!!! Jesus Rachel is my favorite Fishtuber!!!!
thanks :)
Do you sell these fish?
I just bought a bunch of those. but not the neon colored ones. I have the normal ones. They are so tiny. just what I want.
Pretty descent size 👍
I saw that you listed 78° on the high end but I was wondering if they would survive in 82° water?
that is really too warm. I think that their longevity would definitely be compromised
Rachel O'leary Thank you kindly Rachel! I appreciate the reply and hope you have a great day!
Can these be kept with Guppies?
I am doing a 29 gallon (very heavily) planted tank and am planning on having a few schools of nano fish. I have my heart set on these guys as one of the schools. So far I have some pygmy corydoras, and am watching your website, hoping finances and availability are going to match up with your kubotai coming out of quarantine. I am thinking of Danio Glowlight Choprae for the 3rd and last school. What do you think? Is there another nano fish that you think might be better with the kubotai and pygmy corydoras? By the way, I love your videos :)
Choprae are REALLY fast moving, you could also consider any of the white cloud types
54Punchie How about trying some galaxy rasboras?😄
I bought 5 of them and 3 died within 2 days T.T I am almost sure they had neon tetra disease. They started swimming funny like they could not hold direction. I tested the water, and it was within normal parameters. I am so bummed.
Nice fish, i ordered 15 few hours ago :D Nice video, thumb up :-)
After watching lots of your videos, I think this is the schooling fish I want.
Hope you get it in again one day!
What size tank should these be in?
Ask other people? Million gallons. Irl, maybe 10ish gallons. Two feet and prob less
Amazing fish! The first time I saw them I thought they were injected with dye..
I really would love to get some of these
W hats the price for this beauty
Thanks. i am planning on getting some.
wow... green neon tetras.!! i have cardinal tetras
I've always liked these guys! :)
Mine aren't that green yet
adorable fish!
God love them beauties sadly never seen them in any aquarium place I live...
Yeah, these really are nice.
dang. was watching and waiting. last I checked they were in quarantine - now sold out. my luck
+54Punchie sorry man. They did go fast, I will get more
I will b watching out these guys forsure!!!!!..thanks:)
Anyone know their lifespan?
This looks like the green version of the ember tetra
Many people's misunderstand this guy to Diamonds Neon Tetra have blue line and an blue color under there blue line not usually red. It look like normal Neon Tetra
Thought they were glofish at first.
I like it.......
A WORD OF CAUTION ABOUT THESE FISH: Just read in The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Aquarium Fish by Bailey & Sandford that high levels of Nitrates can cause newly introduced fish to die. Wish list fish ...for me! :)
Could they be put in a 20-29 gallon with a betta?
Yes
nice!
I want these fish too
😎
Love them
