I think the biggest issue is just how coldly disconnected from the community it felt. Like, the proposals clearly did not come from JMods who interact with players, but rather somebody who barely knows what the game is.
Guess whose yearly membership was due this month? I think I'm quitting and stepping back for at least a few months to see what happens from a distance.
After looking into this I think its best to just let go tbh. I was only like 20 levels away from maxing, but as little as that matters, it *really really doesnt matter* when this game is going to be just another mtx hell in 5-10 years. They already increased membership prices several times, not to "keep up with inflation" but simply to make more money while they continue to underpay their developers and not add any other standard things other games have like player support.
They clearly just asked a research company to make it and didn’t even read it before sending it out. There is no way someone relatively intelligent at Jagex read through the options and didn’t predict the exact amount of blowback they got… ads? Lower afk timer? Monetized Plugins? It’s almost like this was a horrible idea. That said, I fully expect the bean counters at Jagex to push something like this through anyway. I’m guessing one of the games - probably RS3 - is losing too much money and they’re trying to recoup it, and it’s going to chase away most of the playerbase. Again.
@ I'm assuming so, otherwise they'd've likely sunset the game and turned off the servers a la Classic I'm making an assumption though, in that RS3 likely brings in less than OSRS, and between server and dev costs, whoever's in charge of the money is looking for ways to recoup that.
Without bringing up some stupid ass feud the reality is rs3 lost a lot of their bigger streamers a while ago and a lot of whales left over time as well. Due to lockout issues, hero pass and a couple more things. They aren’t seeing the same income and are trying to come back from it while also pushing as far ahead as they can. Both sides will suffer from this if it goes through at all.
Jagex wants to put this stuff in the game. They wanted to gauge just how unpopular it would be. Now they'll look for ways to slip it in without driving us away.
I'm pretty sure there are some people at Jagex who actually want as many people as possible to criticize and cancel memberships over this. They can then turn to the private equity company that owns them, and present the backlash as evidence that this stuff will kill the game if implemented.
They had me do a massive survey a few months ago but it was asking about how they were doing and didn’t talk about membership costs. They did talk about a lot of these topics but for feedback on how to do better and I blew up on how shitty the customer support was. I see now it wasn’t them asking how to do better but seeing what they should charge to make better.
Also, it's sort of funny how they showed that all these Security options and personal customer supports are totally possible to do, long as you are paying enough.
If anything like this happens all 5 of my accounts getting cancelled and never again logging in. Only thing id consider would be a little extra for multiple accounts on the same jagex account
I would never pay half price and not be able to use runelite because there's always that excuse "cost of operations" Sure it'll be half price now... but eventually that cost will go up and and up to be what it used to be and I still won't have access
They do this type of survey not only to find out what participants care about, but most importantly *how much they’re willing to pay for it* Interesting they left that part out
These "Surveys" still need to be responded to publicly. They can publish fake results or not even send the emails and claim whatever they want. Public response. Every time.
I cancelled my membership until they convince me that none of this garbage will be paid for by my dollar 😂 i encourage everyone else to do so if they be so inclined
Osrs has 10x the Concurrent players Rs3 does at both of their peaks. Execs and shareholders clearly wants more of the pie and are forcing Osrs staff down this path they worked hard against. Why do they enjoy breaking the integrity of the game every god damn time they reach a peak? shameless.
So why would I pay for a sub just to watch ads and only be allowed to play on mobile, when another option is to play on all platforms without ads for Free and use bonds?
i misread the "extra character membership" for "1 extra character" tile. I thought all "extra character membership" options were less than the one character option. makes absolutely no sense
I canceled all my paid memberships, 3 in total, now they can come up with some content to convince me to pay again. Also, my account is 22 years old, i never got consulted for a survey, i guess my opinion doesnt matter
The fact they even proposed most of these questions is ridiculous. Did they seriously think we'd be like "yea yea these are amazing ideas!". Seriously, how naive can you be?
Just add character slots based on the amount of Questpoints an account has, +1 per 250 or based on achievement diaries Don't want to grind or have multiple characters that can't reach that? (such as pures or highly specific accounts) bond up.
I feel they are doing what you said. They are sending out crazy ideas and we say hell no so when they do a new proposal in 6 months it sounds not so bad.
After Wrathmaw player trust in Jagex is at an all time low. The player base is about to shut down and not allow any game changes if they keep proposing this stuff.
Repsect to you and the other content creators standing up and being loud on behalf of all of us about this👍🏼 How we went from ‘new golden era’ to ‘probably the beginning of the end’ in about 2 months is pretty sad 😔
They actually said they're trying to "capture diverse perspectives?" I know they think that's what they're supposed to say, but that is the WEIRDEST thing to say in the context of a ton of FORCED changes that go against the CONSENSUS of players.
Also, they would bait people into resorting to make a new launcher for every account, then they can say X amount of new launcher accounts made this year
I think it was the new greedy investment company owners that are pushing for changes like that but jagex telling them its gonna backfire and did the survey to show them it was a bad idea.
The fact they event thought it was an acceptable idea is insane.
That's what gets me. It was so incredibly tone deaf and completely shows they don't actually understand their playerbase. Like c'mon how in the world did this possibly get past a meeting session? How did someone immediately say no and strike that down before it even got to us.

I would buy the shit out of a jad plushie (if it actually looked like jad) & its less predatorial then taking away game elements like AFK or playing on PC
No no, the community wants blood. Fire this whole crew who had this idea and agreed with it. I won’t be satisfied until that happens 😤
We dont have Luigi's powers

Just canceled my membership , it's been fun , companies just heading down a shit direction.
Gonna have to jump this ship early.
First mistake was not releasing all of this on April 1st
It’s almost like this was a horrible idea.
That said, I fully expect the bean counters at Jagex to push something like this through anyway. I’m guessing one of the games - probably RS3 - is losing too much money and they’re trying to recoup it, and it’s going to chase away most of the playerbase. Again.
What’s rs3’s player base even like lol
@@coop1osrs two homeless people at a local library
Wait what? People still play RS3?
@ I'm assuming so, otherwise they'd've likely sunset the game and turned off the servers a la Classic
I'm making an assumption though, in that RS3 likely brings in less than OSRS, and between server and dev costs, whoever's in charge of the money is looking for ways to recoup that.
I did my part and canceled membership
Jagex wants to put this stuff in the game. They wanted to gauge just how unpopular it would be. Now they'll look for ways to slip it in without driving us away.
they should honestly fire the guy responsible for this
Fire the owner? Lmao

Justice for Condor! Free membership for all.
i quit today and i realized that for years i couldnt see colors, now i can see colors, hear wind, feel the sun on my face. highly recommended.
I see now it wasn’t them asking how to do better but seeing what they should charge to make better.
lol imagine dying on your HCIM to an AD 💀
Also, it's sort of funny how they showed that all these Security options and personal customer supports are totally possible to do, long as you are paying enough.
"What we value most is that fact that we get, the game, for our membership" - What a wild take!
They want to apologise because half the player base just unsubscribed. Not because they’re sorry.
if you play ads, I expect the game to be free, end of the line.
Not gonna pay for the priviledge to be ad bombed while I'm in the middle of a boss.
If anything like this happens all 5 of my accounts getting cancelled and never again logging in. Only thing id consider would be a little extra for multiple accounts on the same jagex account
I’ll be honest if they do anything close to this I’m rwting my bank and quitting the game
If you have a auto renewal membership. Cancle it to send a message. When it expires you can always renew it. That's what I did.
I would never pay half price and not be able to use runelite because there's always that excuse "cost of operations"
Sure it'll be half price now... but eventually that cost will go up and and up to be what it used to be and I still won't have access
This is not an apology. They were testing the waters. Shock and awe tactic to make their next dumb idea seem more reasonble.
This is a my dog ate my homework tier "apology"
They do this type of survey not only to find out what participants care about, but most importantly *how much they’re willing to pay for it*
Interesting they left that part out
These "Surveys" still need to be responded to publicly. They can publish fake results or not even send the emails and claim whatever they want.
Public response. Every time.
they fire hooti and this bull shit happens smh
Time start a petition for all who have or would cancel their memberships if these changes were to be implemented?
I cancelled my membership until they convince me that none of this garbage will be paid for by my dollar 😂 i encourage everyone else to do so if they be so inclined
Company overpaid billion dollar for a 2000s video game or money laundering everything they own we should boycott
They're probably trying to squeeze out the last bit of cash before crashing it into the ground so they can claim bankruptcy.
Osrs has 10x the Concurrent players Rs3 does at both of their peaks. Execs and shareholders clearly wants more of the pie and are forcing Osrs staff down this path they worked hard against. Why do they enjoy breaking the integrity of the game every god damn time they reach a peak? shameless.
The jmods should go on strike if they are against it.. dont know the laws in the uk but if all the devs do a walkout it would be a shell shock.
Testing the waters like they did is very sus
I wouldn't be surprised if the NPCs quit the game too.
So why would I pay for a sub just to watch ads and only be allowed to play on mobile, when another option is to play on all platforms without ads for Free and use bonds?
jagex: which option would you like
A)pay 2$ to restore run now.
B) pay 50$ a month to expand click limit to 25,000 tiles.
C)remove 50k daily xp cap.
i misread the "extra character membership" for "1 extra character" tile. I thought all "extra character membership" options were less than the one character option. makes absolutely no sense
Translation: We're trying to see what people are willing to pay for
The apology is only corporate doublespeak. Do not fall for it!
Don’t forget the months leading up to EoC boys, the community pushed back and clearly didn’t want it and it still came. I walked the day it came.
I canceled all my paid memberships, 3 in total, now they can come up with some content to convince me to pay again.
Also, my account is 22 years old, i never got consulted for a survey, i guess my opinion doesnt matter
Apology not accepted Jagex on behalf of Oldschool Runescape!
The fact they even proposed most of these questions is ridiculous. Did they seriously think we'd be like "yea yea these are amazing ideas!". Seriously, how naive can you be?
If they ruin my favorite game they better watch their backs
Contrauversie
timestamp?
No apology’s needed very one must demand 7.99 a month membership for this insult. Everyone quit and force there hand on this
honestly, the mod who came up with the idea of shorter AFK timer should be fired immediately
Most likely the osrs team is getting pressured from shareholders. Not like osrs team has any say in it, if the command comes from the owners.
Why would they even apologize? We all know an apology does not matter
Not even an apology. Just gaslighting. "We're sorry you feel thus way, you're overreacting"
Genuine question. Does membership currently cover multiple characters? I've been running my ALT in F2P.
No.
You can di the different game modes Leagues and such but no each account needs a membership
@@andrewheath6451 thanks! That's what I thought.
Just add character slots based on the amount of Questpoints an account has, +1 per 250 or based on achievement diaries
Don't want to grind or have multiple characters that can't reach that? (such as pures or highly specific accounts) bond up.
I feel they are doing what you said. They are sending out crazy ideas and we say hell no so when they do a new proposal in 6 months it sounds not so bad.
jagex are compromised by LGBT, you reap what you sow
The one thing i would totally pay heavy on is to have a bigger or possibly an infinite inventory
the fact this apology is now out of date. apology #2 has been released also by the CEO
"We didn't want to just assume players wouldn't want a worse, more expensive version of the game"
True giga-brain excuses over here.
Yo your take that they are making it look bad now to dumb it down is spot on.
The immediate walkback is crazyyy
No walk back they're still implementing ads lol
They actually said they're trying to "capture diverse perspectives?" I know they think that's what they're supposed to say, but that is the WEIRDEST thing to say in the context of a ton of FORCED changes that go against the CONSENSUS of players.
They got absolutely fucking flamed. It’s absolutely hilarious
Community is mad.
This is the perfect time to just quit and come back after a year
13:16 or pay extra to get "hacked" by your buddy then clone a 6b bank
If content creators with large followings didn’t make a fit, all of these changes would have 100% implemented.
Jewgex needs to be held accountable. We are not just their cattle for shekels. We must secure the existence of our game and a future for our accounts.
good old casual antisemitism, what a lovely thing.
Also, they would bait people into resorting to make a new launcher for every account, then they can say X amount of new launcher accounts made this year
I think it was the new greedy investment company owners that are pushing for changes like that but jagex telling them its gonna backfire and did the survey to show them it was a bad idea.
I am not buying anymore bonds for a while now, i suggest everyone do the same to truly send the message, completely unacceptably dumb questions
