- Olivia and Nathan here!
We were so surprised by all the things to do in Kansas City, Missouri! We expected the BBQ to be great and the Kansas City Chiefs fans to be everywhere but little did we know how great of an all around lifestyle this city would provide. The heart of America, the city of fountains, the Paris of the plains, the barbecue capital of the world, the mecca for Jazz lovers, home to the Chiefs kingdom...and so much more!

As a St. Louisan who's never desired to travel West of Columbia...this video just motivated me to make that drive and check KC out. It looks fun.
That’s awesome to hear, we really enjoyed ourselves and will def go back! Cheers!
Oh yeah, I sometimes forget St.Louis is in MO. 😂😉
St. Louis and KC both do tat thing where they straddle the state lines. I heard somebody somewhere say it’s like Missouri’s two biggest cities are trying their hardest to be outside of Missouri.
Guy's, as someone who is from Kansas City, THANK YOU!
For a few reasons.
1. Giving your honest opinion about the bbq. Joe's is historic, and will always get recognition as such. Q39 is newer and a "boutique", but even still, you only " scratched the surface" as you knew you would.
2. You hit on quite a few districts that other vloggers tend to miss. Good on ya.
3. You made it clear that there just simply isn't enough time to completely explore our, or any city, in just a few days.
I'd be happy to share our best kept local secrets with you the next time you roll through.
Thanks for doing our city justice, and hope to see you back here.
No !!!!! 😊 Don’t let people know how cool KC is !!!! I like to keep it a secret. It’s the most underrated city. Only to the uninformed. Great video.
Dude, so true😊
Ayyyyeee!!! I know that’s right!!! ❤❤❤😂😂😂
Welcome to Red Kingdom! ❤💛
Ikr! Oh and donkey even get me started on how cool Union Station is!
I feel the same! I don’t mind people thinking it’s all corn fields and cow pastures. I love my city and am so proud to live here.
I moved to KC a year and a half ago from San Antonio TX. I live in the Westport area. I love it here! Bonus points to KC as well for introducing me to the girl of my dreams, and the love of my life.
Interesting little fun fact about KC too is that we have the most functional fountains of any city in the world! Rome has more in total but KC has the most that are currently functional
Paris of the Plains. 😉
Yup
Kcmo is mostly detached single family homes and suburban sprawl with low density; more so than Overland Park and Lenexa. And over 50% of the metro areas office space is in Johnson county Kansas. Johnson county Kansas is the most densely populated and wealthiest county with over 619,000 people and 340,000 jobs. Johnson county’s median household income is 96,059$ and kcmos is 60,042$. Theres more people living within 5 miles of downtown Overland Park than within 5 miles of downtown kcmo. Johnson county Kansas GDP is higher than Jackson County Missouri. There has been decades of white flight and urban decay from Kansas City Missouri. Kcmo has a big crime problem too
next time they come to town they’ll have to spend a couple days touring the Johnson County gated communities and strip malls 💩
@@iknowdeweybrudda6564KCMO is amazing. Less crime per capita than other big cities. Johnson Co is unaffordable and soulless, yuck.
I'm in southern CA, but I've been going back & forth to KC for the last 5 yrs and I've gotta say that KC is one of my fave places to visit. The thing that makes it the best for me is quite honestly the people. Being from CA, I immediately noticed just in general how nice & friendly the people of KC are. It took me a little bit to get used to, because coming from a state w/almost 40M people, it was just surprising to me how GENUINELY nice & hospitable people are in KC. It was cool to see that I recognized about 85% of the places and things you guys talked about. Awesome vid guys....GREAT JOB!!
Funny. I am from here and have done time my whole life here. I would agree that LA isn't the friendliest place, but in my humble opinion, many people in LA reminded me of people from KC, particularly those from across the state line in JoCo. The friendliest metropolitan place that I have visited in the U.S. would be Seattle.
@@Gremory70 Don't get me wrong, southern CA has a lot of very nice people (the natives are generally very laid back), but when you live in state that has almost 40M people in it, you're gonna have a large number of D-bags. All I was basically saying was that the people in KC are quite noticeably very nice & accommodating. Lots of people in CA are the same way, but maybe not just as obvious as the people in KC.
I lived in Los Angeles since I was broned and came to visit once and then moved
Most of us appreciate the fact that KCMO is underrated.

I’ve lived in many places (including on the beach in LA) & KC is the absolute best city ever for so many reasons! The restaurants (not just bbq) are fabulous! Tons to do, friendly people, good prices, beautiful parks, fun nightlife, wonderful neighborhoods, great museums, & the sports are so fun!! I’ll be here til I die! Come again!
I rather live in LA instead

I'm proud to say I'm a KC lifer as well. I don't know how to live anywhere else.
My home town, wouldn't live anywhere else. So much more to do, especially in surrounding areas. So many great restaurants. Loved what you did showcase, some of what we are known best for, but again so much more to see! Love my City, KC, Go Chiefs! 💛❤️
Same I agree!
Erin. Im heading there in March. Im coming from Australia and dont know what to do there. Any tips?
@Mathieu Collard if you will be here during the first weekend of the month, check out the West Bottoms antiques, boutiques and food trucks, also Merchant Square in Independence. Try all the BBQ you can get in, but especially Q39 and KC Joe's. Nelson Art Gallery, Union Station / Crown Center. So much to do and see in KC. Enjoy your visit.
@@DigitalChilie For bbq try Danny Edwards and slaps. Way better than the big name ones IMO
Lived in KC my whole life and will never move - there's so much to do, great food, nice people, wonderful parks.... the people here are super passionate about the culture and history of the city. It's a great quality of life! Honestly only problem really is the dating scene lol
I live just 2.5 hrs away north of KC in Omaha, and KC is the best hidden gem of the Midwest. There are so many parts of it that are unique and amazing, for whatever you want to do! I'm so glad you featured it on your channel and it makes me proud as I'm a Midwesterner! I can say that KC is not known for brisket, they are a thick heavy sauce RIB town. You get brisket in TX, and ribs in St. Louis and KC. Don't forget, KC has MLB Royals---Champs, and KC Chiefs, Champs! I'm glad you visited and I hope you will again as there is so much more to explore!
That's all we have the chiefs and bbq the rest is shit can't wait to move
@@craiggraham8790 What more do you really need?

I'm a travel nurse from KC and I have been in the Phoenix area for 10 months. I don't have anything bad to say about the Phoenix metro area, especially since the Kansas City Chiefs went to a Glendale, AZ Super Bowl. I have to say that I have seen this video a few times and equally entertained every time. I miss Kansas City so much. I've lived in the area for 15 years. Its such a fun town. I miss it so much I can't stand it.
Yeah, I lived in Scottsdale for a month or two (for work about 12 years ago), and it wasn't bad, exactly, but just more relaxing to be back home in KC. Also, the most fun I had in AZ was outside of the Valley
I have lived in KC my entire life. You are starting to figure why we want this kept a secret. Thank you coming !!! Come again.
I’ve lived in KC my entire life- and this was such a charming video of your visit!! Being here for so long, it seems like such a dull place to me and it was comforting to see you find the magic in it!
You have to seek out the beauty in it. I'm from here and everyday there is a new experience!
I run and walk about 1000 miles a year around the KC area, and I think the key is to just get out in it. It's (almost) always better than you expect, and if nothing else, it's an adventure
This video is so well made. I moved here in 2020 from Wichita, and I've fallen in love with it. One thing you'll notice, like with what you experienced with the food, is that there is a tremendous effort that goes into the presentation of all KC has to offer. There is a certain pride people who live here take in everything they do.
Whenever you are back, I'd love to consult about other hidden gems. If you two ever make it to KC for a week or so, I would love to help you build your itinerary. 18th & Vine museums, the jazz scene, some 🔥 ethnic restaurants, the Northland, Westport, a speakeasy, the major museums, INside Union Station, etc. Also, Kauffman is always fun even if our ownership will never pay for premium talent. NKC/Parkville/Weston are places you can spend a whole day experiencing unique things.
Born and raised in kcmo. Still reside there too. Q39 one of my favorites. Jack Stack my absolute favorite BBQ. I'm proud of my city and my Kansas City CHIEFS!
As a lifetime resident of KC (other than my time in the military) it brings me so much joy to see others get to experience this beautiful city for the first time! The people, food, music, art, architecture, history, culture, and overall vibe of KC is so special and people do take a lot of pride in keeping it that way.
Thank you for the well-made video and excellent representation of our little slice of the Midwest! It was entertaining watching you two have so much fun in places that are so familiar to our family. We were definitely smiling the whole time!
Safe travels from KC 😊❤️🤗
I've seen quite a few KC travel videos and you guys are the best by a long shot. You hit nearly all the places that someone from Kansas City would tell you to. There was couple places I would've liked to see like the Nelson Atkins but man, the fact ya'll went to first Fridays is awesome. Also, going to a Chiefs game and tailgating at Arrowhead is definitely definitely requirement to get the full experience of KC. Especially if you can get to a playoff game. It's cold but once you're in there it doesn't even matter.
my family used to have season tickets theres nothing like parking your car walking up to the stadium just smelling all that BBQ in the morning its intoxicating
KC is relatively close to Lake of the Ozark’s and Branson. You never have to leave the state. It’s a gift that keeps in giving.
I just stumbled across your video of KC. Loved it. We lived in KC for 30 years, then retired to Florida. But still have family in the KC area. You were so gracious and affirming in your comments about KC. It has been awhile since I've lived there, so some of the places you mentioned were new to me, so I was glad to know about them. I was disappointed that you didn't mention the Steamboat Arabia Museum. The history is fascinating, and I love looking at the well-preserved items that were found on the steamboat, which sank in the Missouri River in the 1850s and was buried in mud until a few years ago. You should try to visit next time. Do try to attend a KC Chiefs game and go early for tailgating.
You just scratched the surface of KC! Welcome to the heartland! Q39 is where it’s at, but there are some hole in the wall places that are outstanding. Love your channel.
I know Kirby! We can’t wait to go back and check out the other stuff! Cheers! Thanks a lot!
Q39 is ass get gates
@@fistedtacos420 gates is fast food bbq 😂
Love my city! Been here 30 years. Every time I think I want to leave or away for a while, I just can't. It is home. So glad you enjoyed it. We are known for better food than BBQ. We are a foodie town. We have many great restaurants, distilleries, an urban winery, gourmet chocolate, coffee shops, and our sports teams. You missed Charlie Hustle on the Plaza. Best t shirts on the planet.
I grew up in Kansas City, but live in the Los Angeles area (Orange County) now. I have flown to Seville, Spain many times and it was nice seeing the Avenida de Kansas City, which is the main thoroughfare between the train station and downtown Seville. The Country Plaza does a great job replicating the Seville style, it's sister city.
Good to know Everett, we've always wanted to go to Seville!
I grew up in the Kansas City area. I would have gone to Westport and to Crown Center which was near the World War I Memorial and Union Station. Also, Gates or Bryant's for BBQ. On a side note, I've been surprised at some good Mexican restaurants in town as well. They are located on Southwest Parkway. My niece who lives there loves Green Lady Lounge.
I 100% agree with everything you recommend, but I think you meant Southwest Boulevard. For jazz music I'd also add the basement of the Majestic, and a couple of places in the 18th & Vine area. Visited the Blue Room one New Year's Eve, and it was quite the experience
You’re right. Southwest Boulevard.
I personally wouldn’t bother with Crown Center. Not much there anymore. There’s a HUGE Mexican population in KCK that’s been in the area since the 1900s. There are 60+ taquerias in KCK alone. Forbes named it America’s taco capital so if you are surprised by there being good Mexican restaurants, you weren’t paying attention 😝 southwest boulevard has a few good spots but KCK is where it’s at. Look up the Kansas City taco trail. Enjoy!
As a KC Native I can say as great as KC is (and I do love it) if you go just outside of Kansas City there is so many places to spend an entire day. Personally I love going to Weston and going to the Holladay Distillery then off to O'Malley's Pub to watch a band play at the downstairs bar. There are also SO many wineries nearby to try the local wines.
It's fun watching these KC vlog videos. I find it fascinating seeing the things we all experience in our everyday lives in Kansas City through the eyes of visitors. I'd say there's so much good food in town beyond just BBQ and that's what your video is missing.
Yea we learned afterward of all the other awesome foods! Definitely looking forward to our next trip to KC!!
Just visiting the restaurants would have to be a whole new video lol
Well shucks, thanks for making our little city on the plains look as grand as us cow-town dwellers know it to be! You are right, there is something to do every single weekend in the fall. You picked a great time to visit. I didn't know about the Green Lady Lounge, and will have to check it out. Happy travels!
It is grand best city in the world we aren’t cow-town dwellers we are the kings and queens of the west baby!
If you go to a game, make sure it's a prime time game. Also bring ear plugs if you're not used to the noise. It gets wild, such a great experience. Also go a couple hours early because Chiefs fans tailgate like no other. Everyone is grilling or making BBQ and the parking lot just smells amazing!
Just stumbled on this vid. You two are so cute!! As a Missourian, I'm happy you enjoyed our beloved KC❤
Y’all did an AMAZING job showcasing Kansas City! Sad the ONE first Friday we didn’t make it to you guys were there, maybe next time! Glad you enjoyed yourself!

Appreciate your comments.
Ask for Mark or Ronnie next time you visit!

@@hoosermama1 thank you 🙏
KCK and KCMO aren't the same city split in two, though. They're two completely separate cities with separate histories.
Regardless, thanks for visiting our fine metro! 💛❤
I tell people you go to Kansas City Missouri for the the city, you got to KCK for the view of a nice city from across a river.
Two different cities in 2 different states
Two cities with the same metro
Hello from Naples, Florida. We enjoyed the tour of Kansas City. We drove through Kansas City years ago but did not spend time there. Joe's BBQ looks so good. Thank you so much for sharing with us. 👍💯
We just love you guys! Keep being you, keep being honest, and keep making some of the best videos on YT!!
Not only did you do an epic job showcasing my fair city, but you nailed it with the B role shots. You perfectly captured the vibe of KC. You guys did so much in so little time! Subscribed!
My mouth literally watered when you two were eating, foodgasm!!
My hometown. You were even within 3 blocks of my home-51st & Sunset Drive. Also had a place near Argosy on the river bottom.
Shoulda went to Arthur Bryants, real BBQ, real atmosphere, not yuppified like the two you tried, 18th & Brooklyn.
Glad you enjoyed your stop.
Its so great to see other people enjoy KC. I grew up just outside of there(Liberty) although I live in Ohio now I've been all over the world and I still say to this day that KC is still a top destination. It's one of the very few places where you can honestly relax and enjoy your vacation. As soon as you guys parked the camper and I heard the Cicadas that was extra nostalgic for me :) glad you enjoyed your time!
Kansas City is actually fun. I would get so bored here but then I grew up and realized that I would never have the same fun anywhere else except here at home. Also if you want BBQ you're going to the wrong places.
I’ve lived here for 21 years. I love it here. Hope y’all come back soon!😊

I'm in KC and it's so cool for you to come here and experience the absolute amazingness of our "Little Big Town"!!! I love it here.
There's a few hidden gems when you visit KC, things you'll never find in a travel catalog. Lived here my whole life and I'm still jazzed by it. Love my city.
The best thing to do in KC is to visit Unity Village. I was in the city for 4 days for a conference. However, I stayed an extra day and spent it at Unity Village which was the highlight of my stay. Amazing. Take the free tour.
I was born just north of Kansas City by KCI and I've lived here most of my life, It's pretty cool seeing others visit the city I call home!
Ouch!!! I live in Kansas City. We greet each other with kindness. When someone needs help. We help them. But yes, we do have issues like any other place. But we enjoy life.
Great video! I've lived in KCMO since 1997 and love seeing what visitors think and what they enjoy doing here. It reminds me of stuff I need to get out and enjoy for myself. Love your editing and cinematography.
Thanks for this wonderful review of my hometown. We love living here. The cost of living is lower than many other cities, it is easy to get around town and there is so much to see and do.

You guys brought the love and info of all things KC 😊 we definitely need to go back on a Saturday to get the lively vibe 💃🏼We we’re there recently and the trains and buses (except Amtrak) are free! So easy to get around, clean, friendly & worth a second trip!! Thanks for your info-we missed a few spots you featured- so fun!!

Thank you for highlighting my hometown. Yes, there is a ton of bbq choices. But there is a lot of fine dining, and regional cuisine as well. KC is a great town. Sometimes small town feel, but working on a more upscale, big city vibe. Keep it cool, KC.
I have lived in kansas city for 30 years, I love it here. It's def a hidden gem...they do call the country club plaza "the jewel of the midwest". It's a fun city honestly, most people have the same reaction that yall did. I dated a girl that went to KU, she was from California, and she absolutely loved it here. It was just a fly over state before she got to see it all.
Being a KC native, you guys kind of missed out. Nothing wrong with amazing KC BBQ but you missed out on one of KC's hidden gems. FRIED CHICKEN! If you ever come back through, you should definitely check out 'Stroud's Oak Ridge Manor'. Stroud’s Oak Ridge Manor provides Kansas City's best variety of award winning favorites. Located in North Kansas City, Oak Ridge Manor is housed in an expanded 1829 log cabin and farmhouse. Said to be one of the last of the traditional fried chicken restaurants to survive, Stroud's continues to serve Kansas City proudly.
Oh dang..sounds like we def missed out! Will have to come back and try that for sure!! Thanks for letting us know!
