Agadmator, I just wanted to say thank you for making these chess videos; I have been playing chess since 6th grade and I’m now a freshman in high school. I considered quitting chess because I felt that I wasn’t good enough, but your videos kept me going and I am now the best in my chess club😃
@@JimSmithInChiapas I was in Junior High and remember thinking Fischer was like an esoteric-al artist, and that the audiences were simply too large to maintain strict quiet. #suggestion Ivanchuk vs. Yusupov, 1991. Yusupov had to win that game, and so he just threw everything at Ivanchuk’s king- like a madman! And he overcame the best defense of one of my favorite players of all time. Stunning game.
I remember the tournament from my childhood. At the time I was very interested in Chess (and a half-decent player who played against - and lost to - Paul Motwani and Colin McNab) and I recall getting the official book of the match as a Xmas present (I wish I´d kept it, but it must have got left behind in one of many moves from town to town). We had to wait for the analysis in the newspapers in the days following the games as, although the match was obvioiusly well publicised, the games didn´t appear on the news of the few TV channels that existed at the time. Thanks for the memories, and rekindling my interest for chess.
Hey, just wanted to say great job on these, thank you for your coverage on this match. I really appreciate that you’re telling us the history behind the games as well.
He complained about a camera he found out about AFTER a game, which was rolling during that game, and which he did not hear or see or sense in any way. He got mad because they had a camera even though it did not bother him or distract him at all. I dont think ear plugs would help here.
Agad, I want you to know that I have been following your channel when you just had 2k subscribers and you have done a great job here. I never loved chess but chess is as addictive as your channel. Keep up the good work!
You are my new favorite channel. My love for chess is inconceivable, and I hope one day to be a chess grandmaster myself. I have studied all of the chess prodigies from the 1700s to the 2000s, and with all of this knowledge, I hope to become the best. #suggestion Anatoly Karpov and Gyula Sax from the 1983 Linares Tournament, which was ultimately won by Boris Spassky by 0.5 points over Karpov and Ulf Andersson. Karpov unleashed the Keres Attack and it is a rather wonderful game.
Liron The Third Ivanchuk vs. Yusupov, 1991. Yusupov had to win that game, and so he just threw everything at Ivanchuk’s king- like a madman! And he overcame the best defense of one of my favorite players of all time. Stunning game.
I really enjoyed your commentary on this game. I also liked your analogy to the Milwaukee Brewers! Clever indeed. I am from that area and you are right my friend!
Even being 16 in '72 I was surprised that Spassky kept settling for draws this late in the match, each one put Fischer a step closer & did nothing really for Spassky. He should of played on hoping for a misstep or blunder by Fischer. What would he have to lose? Answer is, the Game! Yes he could lose by bad move which we have seen many times. I think its saying he didn't have a lot of confidence in himself. Great Series my friend!
Waiting for Fischer to blunder at this time was not a winning strategy. Fischer rarely made mistakes, and Spassky played some great chess just to earn a series of draws. There was simply no one on the planet in the early 70's that could beat Bobby in an extended classical match. The results of these matches speak for themselves in that regard.
@@greggallucci607 Gotta say I agree with you 100%, well said. My thought was not that it was likely that Fischer would blunder to a loss, but he sure did "blunder" away a win to a draw to Spassky, Point was that Spassky simply could not settle for draws that far behind, that late in the series and Bobby could gladly settle for draws. Yes , Spassky was a master at turning a troubling position into a draw but a draw for Spassky was nearly a game loss and certainly a psychological loss. Yep, Bobby pretty much was invincible then. I was 16 in '72 and we put down our bats & balls & setup our chessboards in NYC and watched Shelby Lyman (is that correct) provide the move by move coverage & analysis. What a time that was!
Thanks for the response and share. I was 13 and a paperboy in the Philly area and the Inquirer published the end position and the moves, along with who won, in a box at the lower corner of the front page. I suppose it inspired me to pick up the game but I was never very good. The amazing thing about the match to me was how kids my age like all got chessboards for Christmas the year that Fischer won. And I remember well getting absolutely smoked game after game by my 8 year old younger cousin who took it more seriously than I. As it turns out his dad, my uncle, was a decent player also inspired by Fischer 15 years before he won the world championship from Spassky, and taught his son well. And in the middle of our "matches" my little cousin would blurt out trash talk like "you call that a King's Indian, really?" and I was like "King's what?" having no idea what he was talking about. Maybe I was just older enough and better enough at other things, like teams sports, that I didn't mind getting repeatedly trounced by the kid, and in ensuing years all of us formed fond memories of that time and now laugh about it when the subject comes up.
I am like 1 week before "vestibular" (the exam that in Brasil gets you into college) and I wasn't sleeping very well due to stress but this video relaxed me enough so I could get to sleep immediately after the draw so ye thanks
Nice game...Fischer had the advantage but played more like a man that didn't want to lose than one that wanted to win...Still, there were tactical threats on both sides that kept the action high until the repetition of moves draw.
It would be a good idea to collect all the phrases that agadmador uses in every video and make us extremely happy!!! Here are some of them to make a start: 1) Hello everyone ( of course) 2) captures, captures, captures... 3) ... to increase our vast knowledge 4) threatening all sorts of nasty discoveries Well, now feel free to add any other phrase that you believe that needs to be in this catalogue!
Can anyone tell me why Fischer in the end did not try Queen h7-f5 instead of Queen h7-h6 to avoid repetition? On f7 he does threaten Queen f2 check, as well as Rook captures f6 if the Queen moves. Only move to prevent both threats is Queen c2 attacking the white Queen. But then Queen f3 keeping both threats in the Position while adding the threats of Queen e3 check and Queen b7 checkmate and Black is falling apart. Notice that there are no checkmates via Queen captures b1 followed by Rook d1 against the white King, since the Queen is guarding the D1 square now. What am I missing?
Hi im somewhat new to chess and its competitive scene; I was wondering how many games are played in the world chess championship till the winner is determined?
Can someone tell me what's the problem with 17:00 Rook D1? If you capture it with your rook queen captures and then queen trade -> better position for black. If you dont capture but check the black king with Rook B7, Blacks queen can just capture it. White has to move the Queen and Blacks queen can move to D5 to protect its rook on D1.
The problem is Rook captures f6. This forks the King and Queen and thereby forces Black to capture the Rook with Qxf6 and then comes RxD1. White is now up two pawns with two connected passed pawns on the g and h file and should win this.

Spassky really played well in the second part of the match. In fact, even probably a little better than Fischer. But it was too late. He messed up in the first 10 games.
Fischer's attack at 3:17 was so ferocious even Agadmator's antivirus software leapt to the defence.

If Fischer kept complaining about the sound made by cameras and the audience, wouldn't a better solution have been ear plugs?
He probably would have been bothered by the presence of the plugs in his ears
He is Fischer god knows whaf he would have made up

At 15:36, why does white not capture at c8?
Would it only be an inaccuracy or a blunder?
after king recaptures c8, white needs two pieces controlling c1 or a rook at b1, not to get checkmated and not to exchange queen for black rook
