@RobertTowell beware you might not be getting what you think you're getting. I haven't gotten a response back on my comment from the channel owner, putting it here fyi and visibility: The HP spec sheet says the customizable model you link to does NOT include the haptic touchpad and has a slightly different display, verified with sales agent chat. can you verify with your HP contacts that the customizable model you link to on HP's site (the only way to get the 32GB model you're reviewing) actually comes with the haptic touchpad? if their spec sheet and sales chat agent are to be believed, there is no way in the US to order the device you are reviewing. hopefully their spec sheet is just wrong because haptic is a big selling point, and this would amount to a bait and switch. people will reasonably expect upgrading the cpu on HP's site would get the same hardware as the 16GB bestbuy model or at the very least match what you are showing and linking to if it's not the case that their spec sheet is wrong, that means they sent you a custom build that no one can buy in order to misrepresent what you're getting from your affiliate link and that's a big deal. i hope i'm wrong here. furthermore, and i'm trying not to accuse you of anything, but the way you phrased "the spectre 14 inch was haptic, AND THIS ONE HAPPENS TO BE TOO"... were you or your team aware that this is currently an impossible configuration to buy and your affiliate links for the past week have been driving folks to a cheaper, non-haptic configuration, sans cpu/hd upgrades? for me, coming from a macbook, the haptic trackpad was THE deciding factor to purchase this based on your review and now HP is saying it's too late to cancel and there will be a 15% restocking fee to return it. if you've been misled too, any response would be appreciated

It's a shame that they took one of the best things about the new Lunar Lake packages (the new Arc GPU) and gimped it. I like the design and, while overpriced, it is pretty premium. But it's disappointing that you have to sacrifice performance. The least they could do is give us a fan profile that lets us trade noise for better performance.
Light-weight, long battery life, great screen and frame rate, ability to do all basic computer work and content consumption including light gaming, tablet mode ability with screen. I love this. But i need them to make the 32gb version in 288v..
They will have the 258V with 32GB available in Q1 2025. I wouldnt buy it with the 288v if its already throttling under full load. Core 7 is the right place to be
The 288v version is available as of a day ago! And 258V with 32GB is available now. But yeah, the perf difference between 258 & 288 seems minimal and mostly due to a higher power budget, so you’ll probably get throttled and lose efficiency as well. This gen 2 Core Ultra stuff seems new, maybe there will be BIOS unlocks later, but right now I’m not aware of any.
@gilgameshxzero I cant see the 288v online on HPs website in the UK. Maybe I just need to wait a bit longer. Yeah I'd like the 288v for future proofing in a way. What like about the hp over other lunar lakes is the the 360 screen (which I'd actually use), haptic feedback. It can basically act like a tablet when I need to it and be a laptop when I need it to. The others can't. But the downside of the hp is that it seems to be the worst performing with the smallest battery life compared to asus s14 and lenovo aura
We have two hands in Scotland so opening this laptop shouldn’t be a problem for us. I don’t mean to be insensitive to all those one-handed people but perhaps a tablet would be better for you all.
thanks for the detailed review. I am wondering how well the pen performs compared to Surface Pro and Galaxy Book because I write things with my laptop. I have a tablet but too heavy to carry around a laptop and a tablet. so can you please let me know if it gives experiences good enough to write with. if you rate it out of 10 assuming that surface and galaxy is 10 out 10, what would the HP pen be?
On the fence between three laptops at the moment the Zenbook S14, S16 and the Omnibook Ultra flip. I had the Spectre X360 and loved the typing experience and the haptic trackpad. i am glad to see them carry over from the spectre.
I am also a left-hander. Some laptops allow you to choose which hand you are writing with in their settings. Changing it from the default right hand to the left might help with palm rejection.
Great review! Definitely agree on the port situation, it's way behind other laptops (no USB-A or HDMI). I will say, having USB-C on both sides so you can charge on either is a huge plus at least. I think it's a huge shame that the Zenbook and upcoming X1 Carbons don't have that.
Thank you for this review Matthew. Great work as usual. Many users complain about poor quality hinges on HP laptops, what do you think of the hinge's long term use? I have a Lenovo 9i and every other month I basically send it to service (I had MSI and MacBook 12 they both were pretty bad quality as well). Not sure which laptop brand/type is reliable anymore (I like windows). Your suggestion is appreciated.
This is the review I’ve been waiting for! With your experience, is this the one to get? I’m a med student and looking for a laptop to run office, annotate on PowerPoints and make presentations/watch hours and hours of videos/be on web calls. Appreciate your help!
$600 off the HP Spectre with meteorlakes right now at BestBuy. Literally ditching my Asus G16 with a 4090 with that one with a 4050 because the experience of using it is genuinely so much better.
I understand the concept of thin and light but if I have to carry with dongles and adapters then I'm not saving weight. Reminds me of the MB air with two usb c ports.
Ya I had all the ports maxed out. One with power cable, another with mouse and the last with an external drive. It's just enough but 1 more usb-a port would be sweet.
Thanks for the great review! Do you think there are other laptop with comparable trackpad? I want to switch back to windows (currently in m1 pro) but dont wanna downgrade the trackpad experience.
You're very welcome! Yes, there are other laptops that have haptic touchpads like the Surface Laptop, Surface Pro, lenovo X1 Carbon, XPS 13, XPS 14 etc
@@MatthewMonizXPS touchpad sucks. I tried every year's XPS 13 since 2022, and they've all sucked. They have no borders, so it's an accessibility nightmare, and the touchpad has a HORRIBLE haptic click. Like, worse than a cheap gaming laptop imo.
Hi matthew! I was looking for a new laptop as a student and recently found your channel and loved how you review these laptops. Watching your past videos, I was planning to buy spectre x360 16inch with intel arc about $1028 but..I am now also interested in this model costing about $1458. Matt, any suggestions which would be more better for the price? Like, is lunar lake worth extra $400 for battery and heat? Since I think I would use it for over next 5 years or so, I cannot decide which would be better in long terms. Any opinions will be welcome :3 Thanks!

@@CAN4PE16 inch is too large you will regret that also lunar lake is probably worth the extra money. If you want to save money and don't care about performance as much their is also a meteor lake Chip that offers basically the same battery life just with worse performance.
Thank you for the review! I was wondering if you’ve noticed high idle power draw on your unit while you had (have?) it? I got one and love it, but i’ve found that the battery drains ~38% overnight while on and idling with the display off, and drains a lot more than i’d expect during light usage. Have you seen anything similar?
The speakers are impressive, 2 in 1 laptops are my favourite. I just wish they came with dGPUs like the ROG Flow X13 / Z13. A 54W RTX 4060 is still better than an iGPU. I also do not like the noise limitation. Allow us to crank up the fans when we want to game in the comfort of our homes.
Thanks for the review, but the performance with the new chip looks weaker than the Spectre. It honestly looks like a downgrade from the Spectre. It kept all the things but put in a slower more efficient chip in.
Was it a patent thing, or why did it take 10 years to get haptic trackpads on windows laptops? My Macbook Pro 2015 was already the second gen (I think) that had haptic feedback trackpads. Also, Valve's Steam controllers also had Haptic feedback 5 years ago.

I just don't think it's a feature the majority of people really care about. I never even used the clicking feature of normal trackpads and don't really get why anyone ever did.
(IDK the internals, but:) People do not realize how much of a weakness it is to have ports in the corners. Tipically, when a laptop falls or hits something, is the corners that take the most damage. Ports are typically soldered to the moderboard. When a port is hit or forced, that stress is physically transfered to the motherboard. Therefore, a hit to a corner may mean a damaged motherboard. That's the most expensive kind of repair.
So glad they're focusing on quiet fan profiles instead of benchmarks. I think the only thing that would make this perfect would be a standard 75% keyboard layout. I really dislike the tiny arrow and function keys which I use a lot.
that's a huge disappointment with the throttling for such an expensive laptop. isn't this "evo certified"? i thought power management was supposed to be optimally configured on those. seeing that line drop over time just stinks. i'd rather have lower, but consistent frames, the herky jerky is what you notice. does it drop frames if you keep it in whisper/quiet mode (conceding/giving up a few fps)?
@@MatthewMoniz this is interesting, why? Because it has more power. As next Laptop I want the new intel chip and cannot decide between this, the Lenovo and Asus. I would prefer 14 inch so lenovo is a bit out. I also would prefer a 2 in 1 but standard laptop is also fine. I use it for standard stuff like Excel, web browsing and a bit gaming (mostly COD 3). Which one would you get, the omnibook or Asus? A comparison between all 3 would you be perfect with gaming and Overall differences and build quality 😊
You should compare it with the MB Pro 14 M3 and, in a week or two, the MB Pro M4, as they are priced very close in the UK. The Ultra 5/16GB/512GB is £1700 here. The MB Pro 14 M3 Pro is only £200 (Amazon) more due to being late in its cycle. The MacBook will beat it nicely in most metrics. However, waiting for the M4 may be worthwhile, as that will increase the advantage further. Again, the move to 16GB base RAM has killed off a lot of interest from people like me, as these prices have risen, as expected, to compensate for not having lower configs. I am not paying £1700 for a Core Ultra 5 with no dedicated GPU when I have seen MB Airs with a base 8GB/256GB (enough for me) now below £1000. These prices may fall, but the days I could get a solid base premium ultrabook at a sensible price look dead. I suppose those moaning about 8GB base models are now happy!
No need to compare it to the m4 mb pro since it’s having a tough time beating out the m3 air. You’re definitely in a smaller niche of only wanting 8gb of ram but I get your point. It does raise prices but again you have stuff from Qualcomm that’s priced quite aggressively.
@MatthewMoniz 8 GB is just not enough for Windows or macOS. You can _probably_ get away with it on Linux with something like Xfce, but I'd worry about Windows or macOS in a few years running into swap space, which will need an SSD swap, or if you have a Mac, a new motherboard.
@@cameronbosch1213 I have used my base M1 MB Pro 13 for four years and have no issues. It remains a beast compared to similar Windows laptops from the same year. There is a good reason why the base MB Air M1 still sells more than most Windows variants despite being over three years old! And for the record, the swap happens mainly in the RAM cache in the SSD, not the NAND flash. It will only be used for RAM-intensive workflows, and no one should buy a base model for that workload.
I tried Hp sepectre x360 last week but got really dissappointed on battery life( max 6 hrs with average use browser and youtube), Do you think i should consider this one or Asus zenbook s 14?
Ya battery life on meteor lake cpus is not the greatest. If that's important to you i'd switch. It depends if you dont need a convertible go with the zenbook s 14
Wanted to love this thing, but when I used Netflix, it would buffer and be fuzzy while streaming. Didn't have the issue with any other device in the house (including the similarly equipped Zenbook S14). Tried updating drivers and couldn't resolve the issue.
@@MatthewMoniz Thanks for replying! It's really good. I got the one with 32 gb ram and I noticed slightly better gaming performance but otherwise it performed mostly the same as the Omnibook. My one gripe is that the windows hello camera is EXTREMELY inconsistent on the S14. I have to input my pin almost half the time. I preferred the Omnibook having a fingerprint sensor as an additional option. It's nice that the S14 has pen support, though without 360 degree funcitonality, it's less useful. Since you didn't have the issue, I may try to get the Omnibook again to try. It's on sale for $400 at Best Buy currently.
They’re fairly equal in terms of design. You get a usb a port with the spectre but not the omnibook. Performance is slightly better with spectre but battery life is wayyyy better with Omnibook
There's this Chinese laptop called Honor they just released the Honor Magicbook Art 14 you should look into it, though it just released they are using the older intel ultra core CPUs though
Asa software developer I stuck between this and Ryzen 375 version. AMD version has LCD with only 60Hz, track pad is not good, battery not as good as Intel version, but cores for compile ! HP just released Ultra 9 version, may be it will be better in terms of speed, but how will the battery hold?
I ordered the Ultra 9 a few days ago but they declined it 2 days later without any reason. If I want to order again, the Ultra 9 option is no longer availabe.
@@MatthewMoniz Well the processor cores were halved, the design was much more sleek last year, they removed the front facing speakers, they removed the usb a port (though it’s good that you can charge it from both sides now)
This laptop is a disappointment. As a product to replace Spectre, it doesn’t live up to the expectation. Its overall performance is appalling when compared with Spectre, but more it less at the same price range. So, my suggestion is, don’t buy it !!
Question 1 - Why are you comparing this 2-in-1 laptop with pen support to a MacBook? Why aren't you comparing it to other 2-in-1 Windows laptops? Question 2 - Why bother using a trackpad on a touchscreen laptop with pen support? Touching the screen, using the pen or mouse are all a million times faster and more accurate.

I think the only thing that would make this perfect would be a standard 75% keyboard layout. I really dislike the tiny arrow and function keys which I use a lot.
Comes with a lunar lake processor is a good start.
I don't get why they wouldn't just make a performance mode i mean its not like you would care about fan noise when gaming
i do not care if someone receiving money even a day less than i am i will ask for fairness
Dell has one of the best speakers on there PC's
that's a huge disappointment with the throttling for such an expensive laptop. isn't this "evo certified"? i thought power management was supposed to be optimally configured on those. seeing that line drop over time just stinks. i'd rather have lower, but consistent frames, the herky jerky is what you notice. does it drop frames if you keep it in whisper/quiet mode (conceding/giving up a few fps)?
How does it run on Linux? 24h2 was the last straw with windows.
I dont really test linux so I wouldnt know
Despite the price, would you consider this laptop a better option from the lenovo yoga slim 7i aura edition or the hp omnibook ultra ?
I prefer the omnibook ultra however if you plan on doing any light gaming id lean towards the 7i
@@MatthewMoniz this is interesting, why?
@@cameronbosch1213 I agree 8GB is just not enough for myself and a lot of people but if Andy can make it work and save money who are we to judge.
@@MatthewMoniz The problem is you'll be spending even more money in the long run rather than just saving a bit longer and getting sufficient RAM.
Power Button 👍
Framework beats every laptop maker. Full upgradability and repairability. And easy as well.
Upgradeability doesn't mean good. The framework laptops are poorly built, look and feel cheap like a $500 laptop all while being really expensive.
Ya i agree with you. It’s a cool concept but it still feels cheap as fuck. Like a budget Acer laptop
@@MatthewMoniz Thanks. I will go for asus zenboos s14.
@@MatthewMoniz Is there any option in convertibles better or near to asus zenbook s 14?
@@adilrashid2838what do you mean better? This HP is better in everything besides battery life compared to the s14
Is it supports windows 11 pro complety without compromise any features which is supported with win 11 ?
As a mass media student which is the best touchscreen laptop under budget anyone please suggest 🙏🏻
Does that support 10bit color?
Wait, they got rid of the USB-A port that has been on the Spectres!?
Yup /= RIP USB-A
@@MatthewMoniz That really sucks. The only positive is that I guess now you can charge from both sides of the laptop?
Yeah, I'm not missing much.
Wanted to love this thing, but when I used Netflix, it would buffer and be fuzzy while streaming. Didn't have the issue with any other device in the house (including the similarly equipped Zenbook S14). Tried updating drivers and couldn't resolve the issue.
That is strange, I didn't experience any issues during my testing and I did use Netflix as well. How you liking the zenbook s14?
Is it better than the Asus duo ?
Yep
I only seen it with 256v and 16gb. Will HP sell a 32gb version with 258v? I have not seen it anywhere in the US so far.
I've asked the question to their sales team. They even said they sell the 288v variant. I'm waiting.
258V with 32GB won't be available until Q1 2025.
Thank you!
Available on USA website now.
What's the difference to the hp spectre x360 14"? Feels like the same
They’re fairly equal in terms of design.
Ya im aware of it. I was offered to review it but turned it down. I find its worth buying the lunar lake models instead for the better efficiency
The art 14's such an amazing laptop and I especially love that taller 3:2 aspect ratio display.
@@MatthewMoniz I'm waiting for the Honor Lunar lake, then I'll make a purchase
We need Thunderbolt 5 and start using eGPUs
Cool laptop. Too bad it’s HP.
Does it have Windows Halo IR camera?
Yes
If I Only care just playing GTA 5 I think worth it. I’m normally doing spreadsheets, video watching and email at work
Theyre on sale right now btw
Fantastic device, unfortunately its just so expensive🥴
Why cant they go AMD?....
Because Intel's shady behind-the-scenes tricks 🤷🏻
Why would you want that?
Better graphics performance which is also better for productivity
Short term: much better multicore performance.
Long term: more competitive market - win for customers.
"hands down one of the better ones" 😂
Incredible, If you can flip your wallet 😉..
This used to be a price for a solid gaming laptop tho 😇
watching this on my spectre
288V vs 268V, considering the minimum power consumption on the 288V is way higher would you say the 268V is more worth it?
Ya id stick with the 268V
1.8 kg is heavy af for this class of device, have you tried using 2 kg tablet, not fun.
It’s 1.3kg I pinned a comment
Asa software developer I stuck between this and Ryzen 375 version. AMD version has LCD with only 60Hz, track pad is not good, battery not as good as Intel version, but cores for compile ! HP just released Ultra 9 version, may be it will be better in terms of speed, but how will the battery hold?
I ordered the Ultra 9 a few days ago but they declined it 2 days later without any reason.
If I want to order again, the Ultra 9 option is no longer availabe.
@@DarkCloud360 Yeap, I have seen it too. It could be as error in system and HP never had ready Core 9 version, or they found some problems after that.
This is a big downgrade from last year…
How so champ? Im looking to buy one so pls tell me.
How so?
@@MatthewMoniz Well the processor cores were halved, the design was much more sleek last year, they removed the front facing speakers, they removed the usb a port (though it’s good that you can charge it from both sides now)
They also downgraded the camera from 1440p to 1080p…
@@MatthewMoniz btw love your videos Matthew :D
I can see the Crapdragon version only hmmm EDIT: I can see this is the ridiculous mirror screen... OMGGGGGGGGGGGG
This laptop is a disappointment. As a product to replace Spectre, it doesn’t live up to the expectation. Its overall performance is appalling when compared with Spectre, but more it less at the same price range. So, my suggestion is, don’t buy it !!
*1600$ !! F### NO*
Zenbook 14 offers better value.
ASUS G14 and TUF A14. better
4 cores again 😴
8 cores
@@MatthewMoniz good try, but I am talking real cores
@@Games_and_Techyes 8 real Cores lunar lake has no hyperthreading.
🤡🤣
wow and zamzam water
Matthew I have always wondered if you had something in the nose to speak like that
🎉
1.8 kg for a 2 in 1 14inch? absolutely crazy
1.34kg it’s a typo. I pinned a comment.
@@MatthewMoniz sorry didnt see it. It makes much more sense
