I hear your voice, Vanessa, from our former quilt club, saying - "Press to set, press to open". It is my mantra, and it means exactly what you are saying in this tip. I'm loving these tips - just in time for our new club! - and am filing them away in yet another CG email folder. :) MT Lynn
Wow, been there, resembled that; there's several ways to approach when to use one method over the other, but I see where I go wrong. Hopefully, I'll get to join your Quilting Club when my 'to do's' slow down. Great instruction here!TFS
Pressing has been a problem for me. Switching machines during a project can also cause seaming errors (ask me how I know). Thank you for these pressing tips!!
Is it OK to set iron on the lower fabric and kind of slide to the left to keep it all heading toward the dark side? I don't usually use the tip to do that. I'll experiment but I've watched a lot of Missouri Star and Jenny seems to roll it kind of to the dark side with the side of the iron. Love your videos, V, and I've sent to my college roommate (close friends since we met in 1967) hoping she will join me in the CGQC.
Yes! If the side of the iron can get in there to press it over that works. Whatever is comfortable for you to get all that rolled up fabric out of the seam is fine.
Having done garment sewing for many, many years I want to press quilt seams open. I dislike the ridge created when pressing to the side. Here is an explanation I found nationalquilterscircle.com/article/pressing-quilt-seams-open-or-to-the-side/. There is a link to a video at the end of the article.
@@maggierose97 This article was fantastic; it boils down to what are you making. I figured out that 'stitch in the ditch' issue when I had sewn some stabilizer squares together and then added them to fabric to use on my embroidery machine. Well, my machine hit that stitches only center part and it sewed itse'f right into a small but nasty birdsnest on my very expensive pro emb machine. So, in reading this article you were pointing to, that makes sense. I don't quilt per se, but I do do embroidered squares for charities & friends, and this is very good info to. I'm going to join the Quilt Club, as I can always learn new things too! TFS this article.

Just joined the new quilt club. This video helped convinced me I needed to do it. Her tips are GREAT!
Glad you’re in the club! Can’t wait to see what you make. 👍🏽
Hey, lady! I'm sharing these with the members of my Round Robin group. Yay!
Explains, how I manage to mess up pretty good cutting and piecing 😂 Love your way of teaching ❤️
Great tip, thanks Vanessa! Do you give a tip on how to create an accurate scant quarter inch seam? Thanks.

Great tip! Would pressing seams open also make an accurate block?

What is the name of your ruler please
Love these tips. Keep them coming!
Exactly what I was going wrong - actually, I was pressing on the back side.

which Juki sawing machine are you using?

Great tips, Vanessa. Pretty sure I would have made the mistake illustrated in sample 1. :)
Great thank you!!
Anything wrong with pressing the seam open?
