Thanks for this. I'm new at this, and I was trying to get a wayward vertex to join a nearby edge (to get two nearby faces to line up). I just couldn't figure it out. You just opened a door for me, and probably saved me from a lot of future headaches!

This was a great tutorial and I learned a lot, but I came here for an explanation on merging edges :(

Select edges you want to merge. press F3. type merge by distance. hope you will get what you are looking for.

4:11 when you're trying to reposition the edge on a specific axis, click on your scroll wheel to select the axis you want to use. you can also use the buttons x,y or z to reposition on an axis. hold down crtl when you move it otherwise it will aim at only one point of the other cube.

Thank you for the tip but after I have the points snapped and try to move the face down it doesnt move the whole face with the other faces it just goes down past the points I snapped it too

tbh i spent like 30 mins struggling to figure out why my verticies wouldnt feckin merge cause i refused to turn down my music and just watch a vid on it and then the second i watch the vid, i solve my issue almost instantly, bruh. it was something i already tried earlier, too. just when i saw it the first time it said to just hit j to merge the shapes, not ctrl j so i assumed it didnt work.

I'm a little lost as I'm trying to figure out how to merge edges and perhaps it's my fault but merging and snapping are two different things. Merging combines the edges to one where as snapping just lays them right on top of each other both have massively different impacts while modelling. This is snapping not merging. Don't snap edges like this or smoothing will go insane as well as UV unwrapping will be a new level of difficult

But how does the new joined vertices become one? I joined two vertices as shown and then I exited the snap function so I could move my new joined vertices into place but the snap immediately became undone and would only move the first vertex. How do I get them to act as one because the project I'm planning down the road requires me to snap planes together like I'm actually sculpting from clay.
Edit: I found out how. It's much easier than snapping them. Just press m, which will merge the two. You'll have some options where but just play around with it.
